Halo 5 is the lowest selling game in the franchise

Just recently, Halo YouTube channel “Halo Follower” recently reported that Halo 5:Guardians has sold less copies in its first week than any other game in the franchise. With just over 1 million physical copies sold and around 250,000 digital copies equating to about 1.5 million copies over all in its first week. Runner up to this less than appealing title is Halo 3:ODST with around 2.2 million copies in its first week. Halo Follower speculated that the reason for this major plummet in sales could be due to the other triple A titles that launched around the same time which would include Fallout 4, Call of Duty: Black ops 3 and Star Wars Battlefront. The other option quite possibly being the simple fact, which I agree with wholeheartedly, that the campaign appealed to the new generation and not so much the Halo veterans like myself by incorporating a new protagonist so that the newcomers won’t feel like they missed out on something. Master Chief only being in 3/15 of the missions was a major let down in my opinion as well as many others in the community. Or it could be a mixture of both. Here’s where you come in fellow Spartans. What do you think is the ultimate reason for the massive letdown in sales for Halo 5:Guardians?

It seems a mixture of both. The campaign was a let down for most, I liked it myself, but mostly it seems everyone is buying Fallout, Battlefront, Cod, etc. Halo has fallen by the wayside a bit. Hopefully sales will be better for the next major Halo game.

VGchartz isn’t a reliable source. Neither is Halofollower. 'Nuff said.

100% this.

Halo 5 being the lowest selling though? I can believe it. I honestly think it’s the worst Halo game to date, same with literally everyone else I ask. Real life, not online I should add. It seems people just don’t like Halo 5, and I can’t blame them.

Halo Follower isn’t too reliable, but if it is true, I think it is because a lot of Halo vets have left because they feel that Halo has strayed too far from the original. I get where they are coming from, Halo 5 is very different to Halo CE. Sales don’t matter too much (to me anyways) I judge a game on how much I enjoy it, rather than how much other people enjoy it.

You know where they got that digital copies sold number? From up their -Yoink-. Nobody but Microsoft knows how many digital copies were sold. Everyone I play with downloaded the game except me. And when you launch this close to Christmas week-one sales just don’t mean that much.

I watched one halofollower video and did nothing but laugh. The guys an idiot.

Anyway, I do feel the whole aspect of the new ay the campaign was done didn’t appeal to older gamers, but then again, game companies today aren’t catering to the older gamers, they’re focusing on casual gamers which is where the money comes from. Its sad, but its true, and I wish it wasn’t. Even the multiplayer is so much more fast paced with smaller maps which reminds me way to much of call of duty. As the skill gap diminishes over the course of its life, halo will become just another annualized title like call of duty. Its sad because I remember playing halo 3 and having that high end high skill rating and feeling good about my abilities, and now that the TTK and skill gaps are so low its frustrates me because damn I know I’m not the best but I’m not the worst either. Such is the evolution of gaming. Soon the only games worth buying will be the single player only games. I heard a new Bioshock is supposed to be on the way.

xDark Aegisx,
Last I heard there are rumors about another Bioshock title entering series, but the only issue is which studio is going to develop it as irrational is no longer doing so. however I am very excited for the remastered collection supoosedly coming soon!

  1. 343 took over vs. bungie
  2. 3v3 first release with it then halo 4 were horrible new ideas to most of us.
  3. The fact the master chief collection they couldn’t even launch it for multiplayer and left a lot of people mad.
  4. When this game came out a lot of us have been here for 10+ years gaming as adults so slap in the face to release this game mines up for sale my two buddies just said destiny because over bungie over 3v3.
  5. Playlists so far feel childish, I’m glad it’s an easy game for me online but we voted for rockets only weekend which use to be a custom for kids who couldn’t really play in halo 3. So it’s sad to see that won just proves where the games going.
  6. Just listing this I’m going to get destiny on sale today and maybe make the switch been here since halo CE running an Ethernet cable to find servers to this crap game. And now I have to quit because 343 can’t deliver … Again… MCC started the final update when 5 came out that’s sad 6 months to fix the servers. That’s just a small dose of what some feel about this game. They lost a lot of buisness and pro players to other games. People want to go to where the big games are and halo is no more. Cod , Destiny, and if new battlefield comes out halo will die even faster.

The Xbox One isn’t doing well compared to the 360 at that stage in its life; the 360 was pretty much the ubiquitous go-to console. A lot of gamers having one console and choosing PS4 will dent some of your potential sales pipeline.
