The game is not bad by any means. It’s just that the game had so much potential to be great but ultimately fell short due to a lot of poor decisions that were made. Now I’m not going to talk all that much about the campaign side of things but I will give a little bit of an opinion on that matter first. The biggest issues I had with the campaign was that 343 used a cliche plot set up where Cortana returns from the dead and is now evil. Now I know there will most likely be a reason for this in Halo 6 but for now it kinda irks me. The other reason was playing as Locke for 80% of the game. I understand they wanted to introduce you to a new team and the story being told from their perspective and yada yada yada. I get it. It just didn’t really appeal to me. My opinion. Now for multiplayer:
I could go on and on for hours on how a lot of aspects of the multiplayer are good and how a lot of it is bad. There’s pretty much nothing new you guys haven’t heard before so I will keep it short and straight to the point. The biggest issues I have concerning multiplayer was that there was literally nothing offered in terms of playlists on launch day. We had Team Arena, Slayer, Breakout, FFA, and SWAT. That was it. And every one of them besides SWAT I believe were all ranked. No social playlists in sight. I can only imagine how turned off a lot of players were when they found out just how many playlists there were if they had any sort of history playing previous Halos. It makes me kind of worried about the choices 343 will make for future Halo titles on launch day. IMO launch day for a major title is the most important part of a game’s life because it really determines the amount of players who stick with it.
The game caters heavily on competitive e-sport players. That was their plan from the get go. It turned out to ultimately be a poor decision. Not only do the ranked playlists have your MMR (MatchmMaking Rating) play a factor in pairing you with similar skilled players(which is not a problem at all) but the social playlists also use MMR as well. Which basically just means, “hey, you’ll still play competitively but without the division rank being seen.” I mean seriously, what if I don’t want to play up against a full team of players of my skill level every single time I play Halo? And what if I don’t have a full team to play with? No options for those types of people who like the Arena based modes.
The biggest issue I have with this game though has to be the aiming system that was implemented. I’m not talking about “Smart-Link” which is something I tend to like very much. I’m talking about reticle movement responsiveness. The two turn aiming system is just downright awful for a Halo game and quite frankly I don’t understand why they changed it from previous Halos where it worked just fine. The aiming also suffers from slight lag which makes your aim feel sluggish and slow. This may be because of a performance issue or a server side issue but either way, it makes the game very frustrating when I’m not able to move my reticle exactly where I want it to go. This single issue dampens my experience with this game and makes me not want to play it ever again.
Do any of you have the same problems with this game? Be sure to include anything more that really bothers you about H5.
Worst video game UI I have ever seen - STILL no playable elites - Deciding to release infection and action sack over half a year post launch - BTB was completely ignored and neglected by 343 - Used their own sh*tty art style while ignoring the classic art style. The BR was fine the way it was so why did it have to change? - We still have sprint in a halo game even tough a huge majority of the halo community hate sprint with a passion - Campaign was nothing like the marketing - In “SOCIAL” playlists we still get banned - More than half the helmets/armours are -Yoink- helmets and -Yoink- helmets with a lone going down them - Armour Customisation is the worst ever in a halo game These may not be dissapointing but things that were still stupid descisions IMO.

Yeah obviously there were more letdowns that I had but I honestly didn’t feel like listing all of them.
And this is, in many ways, one of my favorite Halos. Best multiplayer in the franchise to me. To each his own. Many of the things you dislike, I am either entirely indifferent about (splitscreen, playable elites, don’t care) or like (sprint).
Also, I always feel like mentioning it because it’s funny to me: the “the campaign wasn’t like the marketing criticism” folks must not have been around for Halo 2. Defend Earth. We’re returning to Earth. Except we ditch Earth after three missions. And the campaign mission that was shown nearly in its entirety at E3? Completely scrapped.
Double edit: Also on the “things that have always been in Halo,” every social playlist has matched you with a competitive skill ranking, whether that rating is visible or not.

The mechanics of the game are spot on. That’s not what I’m talking about however. The way the game was executed was poor and some of the mechanics (aiming and radar) were poorly implemented.

I don’t understand complaints like this. This is basically you complaining that you want to stomp lower ranked players to enjoy yourself. There is actually an easy fix for this. Do your best to lose about 20 matches in a row. Then you will be much lower ranked and be matched with lessor skilled players. Or do like me and quit worrying about winning and losing and play for fun. IF you get beat, you get beat. Don’t whine about it. rejoice in it knowing that you will get matched with lessor skilled players. I promise, IF you lose enough times, you will get matched low enough that you won’t have to try hard to get kills. another option is to create a new smurf account for casual play only. Use that account to not care and every match will be your casual game. That part is an easy fix.
On the aiming, I firmly believe that part of the issue stems from them lowering the aim assist. I still struggle with aim myself, yet I can go into H2 or 4 in MCC and land 90% of my shots. With that said, It will not be changed. We can only hope they make the whole aiming system better for H6.

Maybe I’m unique in the sense that a game’s mechanics are a pretty big deal to me. Don’t much care for a lot of the window dressing, just nail the core experience. And I don’t get the aiming complaints either (but I also remember aiming being a generic Halo criticism for every sequel, so who knows).

It’s funny when people constantly use this argument that higher ranked players just want to stomp on lower ranks. No, I just want to play a non competitive fun match. Have a mix of skilled and non skilled players. Where players arent screaming in your ear constantly and aren’t playing so sweaty. It’s also funny how you suggest making a smurf account to play against lower players which will just have me stomping on players anyway.
Also, the aiming in H5 has very little to do with aim assist. It’s been proven that the aim suffers from a bit of lag at times which makes it very inconsistent.

Agreed! Recommending the usage of a smurf account is a horrendous idea. The proliferation of smurf accounts in ranked Arena Slayer matches has scared away genuine Silver and Gold-level players.

There is no middle ground, You either want easy kills or you want yourself to be stomped. Its ok to admit as much. I’m a platinum level player in Slayer and swat, I have a 119 Xp Level. Yet I remain in the silver ranking in Arena playing people that have an xp level on average of 30 or lower. 90% of the time I destroy them. Yet its really not my fault that I’m ranked silver. I said that to say, I’m not going to complain about being silver, if they want me destroying newbies then that is what I will do . So yeah I enjoy it. So I see the appeal of it. As far as the screaming I mute people immediately if i think they are going to be a problem. I do agree with you that tthere should be true casual gametypes. but again we have what we have. I don’t see it changing.
I will also say too that it seems for some reason that all the players at every level are much better than in prior games. Maybe that is simply because o the system matchmaking. But overall the game is more difficult than prior halo games. It just is. Now when I want to play casual I just play Broken MCC. Its playable. but barely. But that is another thread.

You ever play any team slayer match in Halo Reach? Remember how fun it was? Yeah, that was because there was a mix player base within that playlist. Along with pretty much every playlist in that game but I digress. MMR was not as much of a factor in that game which made every match unpredictable and not to be taken so seriously. This was the same with how Halo 3 social team slayer was. That playlist was the most played in that game because games could go either way for a non skilled player. One game they would perform not so well and the next they could stomp on everyone.
