OPs post reeks of ignorance. Please look at past Halos and other currently more popular shooters to see how wrong you are. This game lacks modes compared to its prequels and stiffest competition. Yea I remember when Halo used to have more content than CoD now CoD even has better custom options than Halo…partially because 343 keeps shooting themselves in the foot.
Oh joy people confusing gametypes and gamemodes again.
Gametypes are the traditional games that you see in Halo. Slayer, Infection, CTF, Oddball, Assault, and KOTH are examples of gametypes.
Gamemodes are the variants that spawn from these types. Examples include SWAT, Alpha Zombies, Hot Potato, One Flag, Neutral Bomb, and Crazy Kings.
We clear? Yes? Okay, we’re clear.
Here’s a list of the gametypes currently present in Halo 5:

Slayer - BTB - CTF - Strongholds - Assault - Breakout - Warzone (PvPvE) - Warzone Assault (PvP) - Oddball (in the form of a community created gametype thanks to Assault’s customization) - Ricochet (same deal as Oddball) - Firefight (later)Currently, many gamemodes exist using these gametypes. Juggernaut - Infection/Flood - Territories - VIP - Stockpile - Headhunter - Dominion - Extraction - Race - Spartan OpsSo really, OP is both right and wrong. We have roughly half of the total gametypes we’ve seen in Halo’s history. However, we do not have the same amount of gamemodes using those gametypes.
We’ve had the following gamemodes in Halo 5:
- Shotty Snipers - Normal Snipers - Rumble Rocket - Rocket Party (or whatever the team one was called) - Doubles - Double Date (from Valentine’s Day for Breakout) - BTB Slayer - BTB CTF - BTB Strongholds - Arena Breakout - Social Slayer - Fiesta - Grifball - Probably missing a few others, sorry.However, many of these are what you’d find in Action Sack and were only available for a weekend. And even then, they were mostly variations of Slayer. We don’t have popular gamemodes like One Flag CTF or One Bomb Assault and lack the ability to create those gamemodes. If we had Action Sack we could forgive the lack of playlists for many of these gamemodes but we don’t. The lack of Infection also means that we can’t bring custom games back to their full glory, relying on a recreation of the Halo 2 Zombies gamemode.
In short, while we are missing some key playlists such as Action Sack and Doubles as well as some popular gametypes like KOTH and Infection, we still have quite a variety available to us however, only a handful of those gametypes and their variants have actually made it into matchmaking.

Halo 5 not just lacks in variety, not it also lacks in players.

Halo 5 BTB is the worst BTB I’ve ever experienced. The maps are insanely bad. I can’t even handle it.
People have have preferred BR starts for 12 years, it absolutely should be SOME option. Especially with the addition of the H2 BR.
343 just continues to alienate communities 1 by 1 and eventually there won’t be anyone left. I’d be shocked if any playlist has over 10-15K people in it regularly. Game is stale and boring as hell and they don’t do anything about it.
The playlist management team should be absolutely embarrassed. Major changes needed to happen within a month or two of launch and nothing changed. Too little, too late once again. Their ideology was to have minimal playlist to funnel people into, instead it funneled people onto other games because they were bored as hell. Brilliant.
If Halo 6 is lacking this much stuff I will be done with Halo. (it’s 2016 and I have to download an app to see my medals after each game… LOL.)
I hope you realize that what you’re saying is wrong. We are still missing about half of the modes that were in Halo 3 and Halo Reach. There are absolutely no excuses for not having them in the game yet.

BR starts has nothing to do with 343 “alienating the communities”. The BTB maps being bad has nothing to do with BR starts in-game. The game is balanced as it is with AR/Pistol starts.

The game needs something. 2v2 playlist, Bomb & Ball, and I’d like to see like a 6v6 hopper that focuses on obj gametypes, mainly 1 sided ones because we can get the classic good stuff in Arena.

They had that some times on team doubles back on H3, playing 2 v 2 CTF on blackout was quite fun.
Infection, koth, vip, juggernaut are still missing
What people tend to complain about is a lack of playlists. It’s not as bad now as it was, with the major omissions being Doubles and Infection imo.
I’m sure the op got some phantom pain going on to think that Halo 5 isn’t lacking seem most oblivious it is as if the OP had lost an arm or a leg!
