Halo 5 is Doing Fine.

Just noticed there are more people playing Halo 5 than Star Wars Battlefront on Xbox One at the minute, and apparently todays stream got a hell of a viewer count.
Not trying to start a war, its just that I’ve seen lots of people using Battlefront as a benchmark and its now behind Halo. Considering the sheer amount of sales Battlefront got I think we can rest assured that Halo isn’t going anywhere soon judging by these numbers.
343 have really cracked the multiplayer and general gameplay this time round and it seems to really show, people are showing more interest than they have in years. And in February, game types.
No more need be said.

I’ve never put much stock in population as a measure of quality. There are far too many bad games with huge populations and just as many good games that no one ever heard of. But I’m also not too proud to join you in the sense of satisfaction that comes from seeing the doomsayers gainsaid.

It just puts the idea of Halo being dead to rest, it might not be what it once was, but by no means is it dead. When the game modes come in Feb that will be the icing on an already delicious cake.

People have their preferences you know. You can’t tell what people to play. I love Halo 5, love playing it but I ran out of things to do. I can see that 343i is trying to go for longevity and it does pretty well.

That’s like saying climate change isn’t real because New York had a snow storm.

The amount of people playing “at the minute” doesn’t matter at all.

No, its nothing like that, at all.
And of course it does what are you talking about? The fact it has more current players than a game that before now has ALWAYS had a higher amount of players is significant, whether you can see that or not.

And yet, this metric is used to justify that the game is dead.

Forgive me if I don’t humor your line of thought.

It’s exactly like that. Why does the amount of players it has this second (which may indicate a decrease in BFs population rather than an increase in Halo 5’s) matter at all? The hour to hour population is always changing.

You know what hasn’t changed much in weeks? Halo 5’s weekly population which is currently sitting at 11th place, compared to Battlefront in 8th place.

Yes I know its always changing, the point is its the first time its been Halo above Battlefront. Most of what you said supports my point. Battlefront is usually at 8, its been lower lately. Halo is staying in the same place. Showing a consistent user base which is already a much better result than Halo 4, because Battlefront is shallow and featureless people are not staying with it. Halo 5s numbers remain steady showing that its healthy and retaining peoples interest.
Again, your opinion does not change the fact that this is news Halo has needed since everyone stopped playing a month after Halo 4 came out.

Is this your first foray into population discussions? Because you don’t seem to understand how it works at all.

Halo 5’s current weekly population (total unique users over the course of the week) is in 11th place. That’s where it’s been for weeks now. And Battlefronts current weekly population is in 8th place.

Halo 5 having a sudden influx any one hour or any one day (which is what you’re looking at) won’t change that unless it’s consistent. Come back in a week and if Halo 5 has been consistently out doing BF then you’re onto something.

We’re not saying its dead. We’re saying it’s dying. Earlier today, at peak population times, Halo 5 had less than 57k players online. Thats not good for a Halo game. Halo 4 was still sometimes hitting 100k peaks after about three months from its launch. The stream had a good turnout, but it was probably just the same loyal fanbase watching that plays the game everyday, since 343 is shoving the eSports thing down your throat as soon as you boot up the game.

Saying that 343 “cracked” the gameplay is just your opinion. There are thousands of people that disagree and still want a true Halo 3 successor.

Of course I know how it works don’t patronise me, you’re focusing too much on the battlefront part. The fact that it has steady numbers itself is a good thing, so is the fact it got a decent number of viewers at the X Games (Halo esports has been almost non existent for ages).

I think population shows what “quality” is to most people. For example, it’s quite obvious that Black Ops 3 is a good CoD. Or that GTA V is a good game. Or that Fallout 4 is a bad game. Or even Minecraft.

You can’t look at the top 10 most played games and think “That’s a bad game.” You can say it’s not your taste, but you can’t say it’s bad. Because if something was truly bad, people wouldn’t play it. Not saying H5 is bad, but it speaks volumes to the fact that it went from #1 most played to, for the most part, off the top 10 list in a matter of 2-3 months.

And what was the install base of the 360? More than 70 million to the Xbox Ones rumoured 19 million, plus everyone always bangs on about how poorly it sold. Its retaining the players it has which is great.
And yes I do of course realise it is opinion, I just don’t feel the need to tag all of my opinions with a warning that is my opinion. By and large it seems the majority of people who have played Halo 5 are very happy with the gameplay, isn’t there even a poll ongoing in these very forums which currently show Halo 5 as the favourite for multiplayer? Certainly its the favourite among everyone I know.

Halo 3 had over a million players online and there were only about 13 million 360’s during that time. There are more Xbox Ones now than there were 360’s in that time.
The Xbox One didn’t sell poorly. Playstation is just selling a lot more.

Well you have to admit, some people could have both games at once and decided to play Halo 5 for a while instead of Battlefront. Plus let’s face it, EA Battlefront was nothing like the older ones, which let down A LOT of players(not me, I’m a BIG Star Wars fan, so I can’t hate on it all the way); like in example no Single player Campaign/Galactic Conquest, so it could be loosing it’s hype also. But for Halo, 343 could be making a comeback with it but it’s hard to tell at this point in my book.

Like I’ve said I know Halo isn’t what it used to be, I’m just saying its far from dead which is what people keep saying. Halo 3 sold a lot more than Halo 5, so it would make sense that there were more players, Halo 5 apparently sold much worse, but at least plenty of people who bought it are continuing to play it.
And I apologise, I was referring to people talking about Halo 5s poor sales not the Xbox Ones, the console is doing great!

This Battlefront is not really a good game to compare to though. At least from what I’ve heard and read online, who knows.

I wouldn’t say it’s all well but am not agreeing with the “it’s dying” -opinion either. Lot of things need to be added, lot of things should’ve been a long time ago (with no possible atonement) and a few are keeping us interested. It’s getting healthier I’d say.
Today’s viewership still surprises me however. Well deserved! (:

Um, well, Halo 3 kept a much larger population for YEARS, not months, and the 360 install base at that time was smaller than Xbone…dont even try the “it didnt have competition” BS. We all know thats false.
The poll youre talking about is such a bad base of reference, but ill talk about it too I guess.

  1. These are the Waypoint forums. The majority of people still here are the 343 faithful apologists. Of course theyre going to vote for Halo 5. Come on man…
  2. Halo 3 is barely trailing behind it, and if you had all the classic Halo games (H2, H3, and Reach) the numbers far outweigh H5. Also, CE isnt even on the list.

“By and large it seems the majority of people that have played Halo 5 are very happy with the gameplay” where in the world did you come up with this?! Lmao could it be the official metric that Microsoft released that the average total playtime of H5 buyers was a whopping 10 hours?

Yeah Xbone sales are actually great despite what a lot of people think.
