Thank you to everyone on the team that has spent the past several years of their lives doing nothing but dedicating it to the glorious game you put out yesterday. A HUGE pat on the back to everyone that helped make Halo 5. Everyone from the top leadership, to the developers themselves, all the way down to the QA on the project. The game so far has been in my eyes the most creative Halo to date. A HUGE pat on the back to the level designers and encounter designers for campaign. I can see that the collaboration between those teams paid off in some of the most amazing encounters I have played in an FPS ever.
Halo 5 after 3 games of MP, I wanted to put down. It didn’t feel like Halo at all. Granted, I had been playing Halo 2 classic in the MCC collection for months, but I kept playing to try and adjust. After I adjusted (3 hours total of playing time) I understood that it is Halo, but a significantly different one then what I grew up on. And I can’t complain at all after I settled in and got the hang of it.
I for one am all for innovation and moving things forward in tech, design, and balance in game worlds. I don’t want my games to be Codified by the same game delivered every single year. Halo for the past 10+ years has been a balance of beauty, elegance (minus MCC which was disastrous at launch), and progress. Each new iteration pushed the envelope on upgrading the core that makes up Halo by trying to throw more things into the mix.
Halo 5 in my eyes has taken Halo back to its roots but added some subtle things to the mix that make everything that much better. The game is back to grenades, guns, and melee ladies and gentlemen. With the sprint option removing shield recharge it balances out sprint. With the sprinting animation being broken when shot, it makes one hit melees less likely if you can shoot the person, and with ground pound taking a while to charge - it is not OP at all from what I have seen if you have situational awareness.
This game I think brings Halo back to its roots but takes that original formula of fighting for what’s on the map with fun new additions to gameplay.
I salute everyone at 343 and congratulate all of you on an amazing achievement. I know more then most agree with this sentiment from the friends I have played with and talked to in the past 24 hours. Know that this in an amazing game and many are happy with what you have provided to all of us!!!
I totally agree it’s Halo, but its not, BUT that’s a good thing.
The only thing I was skeptical about was the REQ system on “Play to Win”.
But I got to say I’ve spent $0 (I’ve given them $60 +tax, that’s enough) and I feel I’ve had no problems in Warzone. I just worked together with my team spent my points that I thought would help and I did well. I just feel bad for people NOT playing and rushing for REQ points by paying and NOT earning them. haha
The multiplayer is so fresh and I feel it is balanced. I didn’t think I’d enjoy Arena Breakout, but it’s really thrilling to go in with friends with different styles of play in a small area with a simple loadout to be on the edge and even come back from a 2v4 to win is exciting. Call outs for weapons from the announcer is nice, though people may call it a noob-esc type of play, I think it’s pretty useful for everyone.
The new Spartan abilities are simple yet thrilling to change combat. Dash for that little boost around a corner, ground pound to surprise enemy’s below.
Unfortunately I haven’t found anything that I find a negative/ cringe worthy (I only played for 3 hours) but I loved what i saw and can’t wait to go back.
The maps are absolutely FLAT. Lacking in detail. Bland and over-saturated color pallet. Reach maps had MUCH more detail.
I went through each map via Customs and boy…what a serious let down 343. 1/4 of the maps they offer look like something out of Tron. Another 1/4 of them all look pretty much the same. The rest lack detail and are simply boring to look at.

It is nice to be back in the Hako universe and not feel like I am stepping back in time. The game feels old and new. The art style is beautiful and I find the gameplay satisfying. Warzone is an outstanding addition and while splitscreen is gone, 4-player co-op is here.
Of course there are improvements to make and gameplay opportunities missed (likely due to trying to stick too close to “classic” Halo gameplay). But I am optimistic for future iterations. Keep pushing forward!

Everyone that put an ounce of effort into making this game as good as it is and helps support the Halo Universe should be proud. Everyone can be a critic and most think they have a god given right to tear others down with hateful words.
As a game industry veteran on multiple Triple AAA titles I am inspired by how much 343 got done in 3 years. The ambitious demeanor shows in how polished this game is. There may be rough parts around the edges, but I haven’t seen them yet. The art is jaw dropping. I’ve heard people say things look flat and I can’t disagree more. The amount of detail on everything is just astounding.
Beautiful game, amazing balance in MP, and the story has been pretty fun so far.
Loving it!
