Melees are eliminated. Chasing a power weapon is gone. I do great with the BR but I’d rather get crushed then take potshots at people across the map. For crying out loud, AR and pistol. That’s a perfect start. Be good with the pistol and get up close and personal with the AR. Then run for the BR. Stop making this game about “satisfying the pros” only. Even if pros are good, nobody gives a sh*t or knows who they are or cares.
Have a BR playlist for these types. Fine. But for the rest of us that want to play halo as it was designed… Ya know, Melees, tight battles, etc. No one likes it. I play rounds with BR starts and never consider the Melee. Never consider grenades. It’s all duck and cover. This game was the best game of all time at the start of the beta. Pistol and AR start. Meant we were gonna get up close and personal. Poof. BR starts. Sweet. That’s gonna make breakout fun! Everyone hides at opposite ends of the map. No one even will care about map design. Put all the crap in front of us you want. Everyone will hide behind their first cover point and shoot. So halo! Pfff.

This. Try to have fun with AR starts and the whole other team has control of the BRs on the map. Not much fun at all. How could anyone ever complain about spawning with a weapon that can actually compete with an opposing player from short, medium, and long range?

When it’s too good? Especially when the weapon isn’t of particularly difficult use?
Because it’s not halo at that point. What are you talking about? If you want a BR go get one or kill someone with one and get it. To start with it makes it pointless.

Because it trivializes having the option to pick up a different weapon at all.
So what I’m hearing is that the BR is too powerful? So are you wanting to spawn with a weapon that is just mediocre, instead of powerful? How will you challenge map control if the other team gets the power weapons?

There’s always been ways to outwit power weapons besides rockets outside having an uber starting weapon.
Then again, conquest to claim power weapons has always been a subject in itself.
Man, if 2015 Mega went back in time and told 2013 Mega that there would be threads like this as a result of the Halo 5 Beta the 2013 version of myself would probably ask me what I’m smoking and slap me across the face.
I’m in a world where AR starts are the preference for a lot of people. Am I the only one finding that hard to have that sink in?
But as good as it is to see the AR where it is right now I really hope that in the final release we’ll see that AR, BR and DMR starts can all be equally enjoyable and that we’ll have a map selection that’ll support close, medium and long range combat and therefore support these three types of rifles.
Not sure how long you’ve played the beta but that WOW factor won’t last long. I’m 12h in and starting too see how bland this game is and by that i mean every confrontation you have in this game will play out the same (people going back and forth between cover while shooting at mid range) in the earlier halo games the long kill time meant players had to find more creative ways to kill their opponent which also created more intense battles. This meant that teams would fight over power weapons and vehicles more often. The power weapons in this are a joke due to the starting weapons already having such quick kill times.
The maps also seem quite ambiguious, like wth is regret? It looks like a skateboarding park with all those curves.

That all sounds fine and dandy to everyone, but it’s just gonna split up our playerbase more. And with H4’s numbers, that’s a very thin number.

I’m not too worried about that.
You see, I’d like to see 8v8 game types have a mix of medium and long range maps with the appropriate BR and DMR starts with 4v4 game types having a mix of close range and medium range maps with the appropriate AR and BR starts.
I’m not suggesting 343 split the population into thirds by adding more game types to cater to each range type. I just want more variety in the game types that already exist.

Halo 3 had mixed starts but I’ve got to laugh in Reach or Halo 4 I can’t remember which one on the forums they were like this but about NOT having the DMR / BR starts. Again they can’t please everyone, I can see it coming down to when voting for maps like it was before.
People like AR starts because it reduces skill gap and allows them to have more fun. In essence making them feel better. BR starts are much more competitive, as picking up an AR is actually really important for close-range battles.
