Due to halo becoming a more and more expanded and complicated universe, it be a good idea to have some sort of in game codex. Many new people wouldn’t really be kept up with the small tidbits of information, and this would be an easy and accessible way of providing that information. This would give small insights to weapons, enemies, characters, and small story details.
The way 343 can do this is how they did it with the original Halo CE: Anniversary, where you can scan objects and enemies, thus giving you information about said object, Also can the kinect thing be left out (sorry Microsoft). it can also be done (preferably) like how mass effect does it, even having a voice actor for the major parts.
Any thoughts?
Halo: Reach had it to an extent. I fully support this. Halsey or Black-Box can do the voice-over, depending on which Team you’re playing.
The Codex system they put in the first Mass Effect game was absolutely incredible and they did that ages ago. I wish more games would add a feature in like that where you could just access it from the pause menu.
I think that you would actually need the Kinect to do this rather than map the action to an already full controller layout. 343 could do a Codex/ Bestiary/ Grimoire system, however, like the ones found in Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed and The Witcher. I’m all for them adding the Library system from Halo: CEA, though.
By the way, didn’t the Halo 3 LE disc come with a Bestiary?
A codex is a great idea, but honestly, I don’t think you should have to scan items in-game to unlock them in the codex. I think it should just be its own menu option with a timeline and every piece of information already unlocked. Then as you play through the Halo 5 campaign, you unlock new pieces of information as the events occur (to put Halo 5 information into the codex without any spoilers).
