Halo 5 in 2020

I’m a lifelong Halo player, and I’ve been playing MCC on my Series X when it got optimized. Is Halo 5 worth playing right now before Infinite comes out? Or should I stick with MCC?

From a multiplayer perspective, I think H5 offers some unique gameplay compared to the previous games in the series. It’s pretty different from the first three games though, so if you really like those, H5 might not be for you. I really like it, but I would probably still put H2 and H3 multiplayer above H5’s from a purely “fun” standpoint.

I’d say that it’s basically an upgraded version of H4 in every possible way. The weapons have been balanced (and some were changed altogether such as the bolt shot and Promethean grenades). It’s also more fast-paced than the previous games due to general speed and all the various movement options. Time to kill is also reduced compared to earlier games. I also think Warzone is a fun, new game type. It’s not for everyone, but I enjoy it.

However, I would also say that the map selection in H5 is one of the worst. I think Reach probably has worse maps because they’re so easy to control from a single point. But the H5 maps are extremely repetitive and most of them are just reimagined or altered versions of other maps (both old and new).

I don’t think the campaign of H5 is very good though. So if that’s what you wanted feedback on, I think sticking with MCC is probably better unless you really want to experience the H5 story.

I personally don’t like Warzone, but I totally agree. The game, however, both in campaign and multiplayer, is so much better with friends. Grab a squad to play either the campaign or multiplayer with and you’ll probably have a blast. Campaign isn’t that good (although I liked it), but multiplayer is a blast with friends, if a bit frustrating

You bring up a good point regarding the campaign with friends. The campaign for H5 was specifically designed with 4-player co-op in mind, so that’s the ideal way to play it. Otherwise, the NPC teammates can be a bit frustrating.

If you’re trying to get ready for Infinite, then a modern game like H4 or H5 would be best to play.

Give it an honest try. Like others have said, it’s different. I really enjoy it, but I’m just a recreational player. The multiplayer Social playlist Husky Raid gives you a great opportunity to try out various weapons. I enjoyed that when I was starting out.
