Halo 5 HCS vs Halo 3 MLG

I took the time to watch Halo 5 HCS in comparison to Halo 3 MLG… I don’t know what it is. I can’t get into Halo 5 HCS like I can with Halo 3 MLG… It just feels like it is missing something. What do you guys think?

The HCS just feels very forced

That’s because Halo 5 is missing passion. Something Halo 3 had. 343 only made Halo 5 because their contracted to as a Microsoft department. A lot of love and careful tuning crafted Halo 3.

I think its mainly because halo 3 was alot more slow paced and tactical. However halo 5 focuses on more shot and strafe not as much tactics as halo 3. This is why halo 5 could be more like cod instead of halo because cod focuses more on shot just like halo 5. If your interested in trick jumping check out my channel. - YouTube

Not true. 343i was specifically founded to maintain Halo. When they were building the studio, many of the people who applied probably did so because they were passionate about Halo. There are things you can blame 343i about, but lack of passion doesn’t seem to be one of them.

Passionate can mean a lot of things.

Damn that was a strong counter argument. Props to you.

Yes?

First thing that came to mind when you said that it’s missing something was a BR.

I think HCS is missing a secondary weapon and more weapon pick-ups (obviously not autos). Pure pistol just gets boring.

That’s what happens when devs make a poorly made upgrade based sandbox with little to no competitive value.

I watched Halo 3 MLG very little so I cannot compare it to Halo 5 HCS. I just think the HCS is doing great, but yeah, it is missing a secondary weapon, everything becomes a magnum only game and its variants.

There’s a lot to take into co consideration.

both play very differently, for the most part they also have different players. Few from the H3 era happen to be in H5 HCS, you can also look into the opinions of those players(and ex players) and you’ll hear out the differences between the two. Take Ogre2 as one example who no longer even participates in pro gaming (unless he’s made a recent comeback), the dude doesn’t even recognize H5 as a true halo game, remember when I said both games play very differently? A lot of the appeal has been lost due to drastic changes people don’t like (me included). The gameplay is VERY different, you have abilities involved, weird -Yoink- weapon setups that don’t fit pro play, so-so maps that are just boring, and really don’t help certain gameplay (much of HCS is just rotating around a map and controlling the opposing teams spawns and trying to lock them down on that part of the map). Much of it isn’t interesting to the player just as it isn’t to the audience.

id also say the weapons aren’t fun and to easy to use. Automatic spam has been getting more and more limited over time, the power weapons like the sniper are really much easier to use compared to the H3 version, it just doesn’t reward skill as much as it used to.

HCS only plays out because 343 offers bigger prize pools than anyone out there, id even try to play a game I dislike for a million $$ if I was that good at it. Remove that prize pool and you’ll see much less people participating cause the fun just isn’t there, all that’d be left over are those who do like the game and also are trying to regrow the competitive scene to be as big as it used to (cause HCS isn’t even close to MLG in terms of halos popularity). The players also have had communication issues with 343 where certain ideas and changes weren’t met to make the scene better, 343 wants to do things the 343 way instead.

Halo 3 MLG is the only game that I actually enjoyed watching tournaments of. The tense and simplistic gameplay is always entertaining to watch. I hope that we can get some community tournaments running when Halo 3 goes BC.

You read that as “they’re not passionate.” I read it as, “they were passionate because they wanted to improve what was there, and believed they could.”

For me HCS is very entertaining to watch I see competitive halo since H2 and I’m gonna tell you something I haven’t see so many intense matches since the H2 days so me everything is all right
