Why does Halo 5 have so much hate?
Because they found no middle ground in anything. Way over competitive game play. My Xbox one recently broke so I am back on the Xbox 360 and have been playing Reach and didn’t realize how stressful H5 plays, well when it comes to FFA. While I don’t like 8 player FFA most maps in reach are bigger than the H5 maps. Which brings me to H5 arena maps. Lack of diversity, many of the maps play very similar and way to many remixes. Most hate the req system as well since they crammed pretty much every cosmetic in it and left none to be earned really, except Achilles. And probably the #1 thing the wonky servers especially for those over seas.
…because haters gotta hate.
Because it’s absolute garbage. Terrible story, one dimensional characters, microtransactions, dumbed down customisation. Lack of game modes on launch, lack of post game carnage report on launch, lack of infection for 6 months, no developer made Btb maps. No map selection or veto system, terrible map rotation, lack of social game modes for a good 6 months. Competitive play shoved down your throat, no party matching, unlimited sprint, tiny radar size, spartan charge. Emblems being locked behind microtransactions, all customisation locked behind microtransactions. No daily, weekly or monthly challenges. Pay to win warzone. Broken theater mode. And I haven’t even talked about how the story is so bad it ruined the halo universe and rendered halo 4 meaningless. Combine that with the false advertising and huge level of hype and excitement leading up to the game and you have your answer.
People won’t like Halo 5 until at least Halo 7. Then everyone will complain that Halo 7 doesn’t feel like Halo and demand ground pound and clamber. I think people actually enjoying being miserable complainers. Mark Zuckerberg has gotten rich by giving people an easy way to complain about EVERYTHING.

“People won’t like Halo 5 until at least Halo 7” would probably be true if halo actually wasn’t dropping in sales and player retention by millions each iteration. It’s easy for one to say that too when most of the OG players left and those who liked H5 are still around when H7 is out.
@OP: halo 5 is the best since H3 to me, still carries a lot of issues however, primarily the forced abilities and H5 actually lacking in content on launch. I’m not primarily into halo for the campaign either but H5 is the first campaign I don’t like. The advertising was a lie, blue team wasn’t really expanded on, H4 story was made irrelevant, ruined my favorite character in Cortana by 1.bringing her back and 2. Making her evil and 3. Actually turning vs the chief. 2+3 simply isn’t her character and that’s my issue with it. I also dislike how reliant the game is on outside lore/media, that stuff is there to enhance on what’s ALREADY there, not to understand/explain what’s in game, the game is supposed to do that itself.
what do I like about H5? While I myself am not a forger, I have still played the communities creations and if 343 has a #1 strength, it’s forge and customs. Reverted back on some of Reach and H4s issues. Loadouts got tossed out of arena (I don’t particularly care if they’re in war zone so long as they’re not in arena) and map pickups were refocused on. It also brought back some competitive aspect (which still can be better improved upon) to the franchise.

Wow I was gonna post the reasons but holy crap you beat me to it! But yeah ^this pretty much sums it all up.
I personally like halo 5 because its a good competitive game. I recognize that 343 is doing its best to pick up where Bungie left off. I feel like they are doing a great by also listening to the community.

I personally feel that 343 has well exceded what Bungie did in terms of lore and multiplayer.
Why? Lets see:
- Campaign was below-par for a Halo campaign with half baked characters, storyline felt inconsistent, somehow made Halo 4 like it didn’t happen and didn’t follow what it was advertised - Repetitive boss fights - Lack of content at launch with players finding the game unfinished for $60 game - I can imagine how popular Halo 5 would’ve been if all content now was there at launch - The amount of bugs in the game is just abysmal and the most annoying one IMO is the game freezes when someone leaves - The servers are not great for people playing overseas - Game leaning overly leaning to the competitive crowd - Microtransactions… - Replacing the usual scope with ADS - Spartan Charge… - And some more if anyone is willing to addI’m not saying Halo 5 is a bad game. I’m listing why the game was hated and I can understand some of their concerns. I hope 343i learns from their mistakes to ensure Halo 6 is gonna have a good story, content ready and polished at launch.

Yup, just took the words right out of my mouth

True but they turned everything into farming, nothing is about skill anymore. Example the Vidmasters in Halo 3/Odst got people working together to play for fun to achieve things to be proud of while all the Achilles armour does is tell people that someone had too much free time, farmed for endless hours, it’s the same with any armour unlocked by REQ packs.
Pretty much what LethalQ, Dead1ift, UEG ShadowAngel, BlueChief117 and ronnie42 have said.
I’ll add, I like a lot of things about Halo 5. I agree with what UEG ShadowAngel mentions about things he likes too.
I think 343I going back to equal starts, weapons and power up as map picks up was the best thing they did (Why they went to dumb loadouts in Halo 4 is beyond me…) I don’t mind the current system for map selection but I think veto is the way to go. I absolutely can’t stand the ADS style zooming animation that 343I has brought into Halo as I feel it’s one of the worst aiming systems in FPS. The point of zooming is to see your target better, not obscure 3/4 of it lol
Warzone, though an interesting idea to me was such a HUGE waste of time and resources. Warzone doesn’t even feel like Halo at all. Firefight should of been a focus in this game and for the life of me I can’t understand why it wasn’t (as I’ve explained why in numerous posts in other threads)
My main grips I guess you could say with 343I are that they changed things that majority of people don’t (or never have) complained about for no reason at all. Why change the zoom system? Why did they feel the need to make a new rocket launcher?? I’ve been playing since CE and I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve heard people complain about those things. There are other things as well of course, was just using those as examples.
343I has his bad habit of leaving out basic features too or just have such poor designs decision (in my opinion) with things like the pre game lobby for example. Look at Reaches pre game lobby… One of the best I think. It still looks and feels like a Halo lobby. Why wouldn’t you continue to upgrade that! Now look at Halo 4… And even worst 5. Absolutely abysmal!!! You can’t (even still) mute individual players in the pre game lobby!!! Are you freaking kidding me??? It’s things like this that make me think, is anyone testing this game?? Or is anyone listening to there testers?? I just find it hard to believe that you can have a group of x amount of testers and not one person ever brought this up…how??? Mean while, when the game gets released, the Halo Community immediately points this out and complains lolol
Then, when 343I does something that the majority of people like, they don’t use it lolol case in point, Interactive environments like H2A had. These small, yet fun features are liked by most. Best part is, if Pros don’t like it you could easily have a feature that disables them in their playlist.
I don’t want anyone to get fired or anything like this, but these kinds of issues (there’s lots more too…) really make me wonder, is this a leadership issue? Are 343I really that out of touch what the majority of the Halo Community likes?? Like… I just don’t understand the rim or reasons behind so many decisions they make. We all know what the majority of fans like/dislike… Do they not know?? Sprint is probably the biggest issue that people are split on, but that’s it really. I might not like Infection for example, but I know it’s popular and should be in the game.
They really do seem to live by the saying of “one step forward, two steps back” lolol I’m sorry to say. I think 343I are getting better at listening and communicating with us, though they need to do a better job in using Waypoint…you know, the OFFICIAL Halo site… but they really need to stop this whole “change for the sake of change” way of thinking.
No clue. Ive been a fan from day one and 5 is my favorite. In terms of multiplayer anyway. The look, the feel, spartan abilities all of it. Love it.

Agreed. It just feels like Halo 4 was a mess then they made changes to help them make H5 but then they made things even worse from H4 into H5, at launch the game had a serious lack of content, will lack content when the servers go down, that reminds me that the online only ‘problem’ for a majority of the game is just appalling decision from 343i that should never have happened.
I remember in the beta complaining about H5 being the worst in the series but they didn’t change much of anything to fix the main problems of why most dislike H5. The thing is if they keep making their mistakes then the fan-base will just keep decreasing. It’s been getting worse since Reach since every time a new Halo game comes out…people always say “it could be the last” because 343i don’t seem to listen to the general feedback and are concerned about the franchise.
Even now I’m worried that H6 maybe as bad and I keep telling myself that it might be good. Even though HW2 was pretty good…H4,5 just proves that they haven’t been able to get a Halo FPS right so far.

That’s objectively false, Warzone is pay for a random chance to get a slight advantage at worst. Everything else in your post though are completely valid reasons to dislike the game.
Anyways I don’t completely hate halo 5, I just hate the decision making for the game, I don’t why 343 took out playable elites, I don’t know why 343 took out splitscreen ( seriously who thought that was a good idea???) I hate that 343 didn’t have all of the key gamemodes out at launch, I hate the terrible story and I hope Brian Reed never touches Halo again, I hate the limited customization, and I hate that customization is tied to req packs.

because it’s too different to the classic halo experience.
i would like to remove all spartan abilities, except run (a limited run).
i would like to decrease the damange of many “secondary” weapons, and return to a gameplay BR based
i would like to play many old classics maps
so, my ideal gameplay is like as halo 2 anniversary or H3 Throwback with a limited run.

So much of that I agree with, I’m literally tired of seeing nothing but forge maps. It’s got to a point where I can’t think of any memorable maps in H5 because a majority of the maps are just forge maps that the community has made.
Because the Halo community will never be truly happy with what they get, forever…

Not to say Halo 5 is amazing, because it’s the weakest Halo game so far. But every time a Halo comes out there is a cycle of approval and hate. I actually made a forum post about it here:
https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/f9237adeaf1742c09de144d7bf3f7507/topics/fanboy-trends-and-a-fix-to-the-halo-community/0e0307d7-214e-4d90-a04d-aafa64da957b/posts?page=1
Copy and paste the link…I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make a working link to the forum page. Sorry guys.
Halo Reach messes with the core Halo gameplay, instead of going back they add killstreaks and sprint. Halo 4 messes with Halo gameplay, after two games of the fanbase very vocally discouraging it Halo 5 messes with the core Halo gameplay with sprint, mobility trends from other popular shooters and aiming down weapon sites.
Halo 5 shipped horribly unfinished with no forge, very few maps and modes and no split screen support and a campaign a lot of people were disappointed with.
Sure, 343 entually got forge and other missing features in but it was under the guise of “free content” How much of the “free content” was stuff we had at launch in previous Halo games?
Maybe at some point they got to where they were adding onto something that felt like a new game but people should have to wait around for the game they bought to get finished.
Not everyone shares the same opinions but most Halo fans at least had SOME major gripes with 5. Personally I was fine with the gameplay at first. My main issue was the lack of content and they way they acted about the updates like we were supposed to be happy they were finishing their games several months after the fact. But at this point Im sick of the gameplay not being Halo too. Im tired of waiting.
And coming after Reach, 4 and then the disastrous MCC the fanbase is sick of this. Halo 5 on it’s own doesn’t really stand as some monumental failure. It’s more like the last straw for many that some how found it in themselves to give 343 and Microsoft the benefit of a doubt after betrayed with MCC.
