I think everyone agrees about this. Halo 5 has a lot of potential, but I think people are assuming that Halo 5 will live up to that potential. That depends on whether or not 343 is going to f*ck this up or not. And that’s worrisome. Yes, the beta ran smooth at 60fps, but a beta is not a reliable indicator of how good a game will be. Take a look back at Battlefield 3. The Bf3 beta, while it was used just for advertising not to test bugs (it was so close to launch), was the buggiest, laggiest, glitchiest thing I have ever played. A week later when I got the game it ran smooth and I’ve never seen it lag or glitch all the years I’ve had it, and I played it a lot. Then look at Battlefield 4. The beta ran smooth and it was a broken game at launch. Don’t judge a book by its cover, don’t judge a game by its beta.
Like I said, Halo 5 has potential but that’s all it has. We could see Scarabs in multiplayer or a whole variety of vehicles from past Halo games and new ones. The new gameplay mechanics open the door to a whole new sandbox we haven’t seen in Halo until now. But will there be a diverse sandbox in the final game? We don’t know, we just know that there CAN be. The possibility is there and we have reason enough to hope but I don’t think we have reason enough to be optimistic. 343 has yet to prove themselves capable of making Halo games.
So my question is why would anyone risk pre-ordering this game for? If you didn’t like Halo 4, what makes you think you’re going to like Halo 5? Don’t say the beta, because most likely, the game will have changed enough from what we saw in the beta that even if you liked the beta, you may not like the final game. If you liked Halo 4, take the MCC as warning. Would you pay money ahead of time for a game you don’t even know is going to work? Plus the Halo 4-style gameplay is gone. 343 is moving away from what they did with Halo 4, so if you liked Halo 4 for what it was, you may very well not like Halo 5.
Let 343 prove themselves to us fans before we buy their game. I am not confident that they will live up to the mountain of potential they have. And potential is meaningless if not used
