Halo 5 Has LAN Capabilities(Closed Network)

343 set-up a Closed Network for this tournament. Hopefully a tech guy can give some more info on what is going on here. So the title is misleading I know its not technically a LAN, but with this so called “Closed Network” seems to eliminate any possible lag, registration problems, etc.

Basically these are the smoothest running games halo 5 has ever seen. So are we able to set up a “Closed Network” and run this kind of setup? Is this only achievable with 343s help/permission?

Talking about the Closed network the commentator says, and I quote “it is pretty awesome as-well(talking about the gameplay), big thank you to 343 for that”.

Probably only doable on their end. The game we have needs Live to work, they probably have a dummy Live server that the game connects to.

My thoughts, too. Doesn’t the cloud do some computing in order for the game to run multiplayer?

Makes sense. I just wonder if tech ppl will be able to do the same thing, or if they already have.

They talked about this well before launch. It isn’t possible for players to do but if you were to host a HCS LAN event, they’d help you out and provide you with the tools needed to do it.

can you link said talk? just want to look into it more. And what if you wanted to just host a LAN, not connected to HCS at all?

I’d just like to point out they’re also using an unreleased build of the game, hence the spicy chief and locke skins.

That being said it would be nice if they would add system link back to Halo 5. I know the Xbox One’s hardware may not support it, but Reach on the One can do it via software emulation so it can be done in an effective capacity.

Well yes the Xbox One does have the capabilities to run LAN, just ask the developers at Gears of War, they have LAN.

It seems like 343 doesn’t want anyone hosting a Halo 5 Event, unless its HCS

Halo 5 uses a client-server model, not peer-to-peer (which is what LAN play would be). The Xbox hardware would support that just fine, but it would require 343i adding a completely different networking system solely for the purposes of LAN play, which I don’t see them doing any time soon. It would be a lot of work for a questionable pay off.

Which leads into the obvious question of why they wouldn’t implement it in the first place, with the obvious answer that MS/343 wants total control over how Halo can be played. Eliminate LAN and split screen and you’re forced to do it their way or not at all. I don’t know what makes me more bitter, the decision to do that or the fact that no one else seems to care that features are gradually being stripped from gaming as a whole and maybe if you’re lucky they’ll consider selling it back to you.

http://teambeyond.net/interview-josh-holmes-halo-5-guardians/Scroll down to the Halo Championship Series section.

If you want to host a LAN not connected to the HCS, you’re out of luck.

Yeah, I’m pretty pissed they’re eliminating features I haven’t used in nearly a decade. Every Halo must have all of the things from the last game plus more.

There is the tech guy I was looking for thanks for the info.

Im not sure if your serious or not. But I haven’t forged since Halo 3 so does that mean it should be eliminated because 1 person hasn’t used it in an extended period of time. Im just starting to doubt you contributed anything to this thread.

They probably have a private local server set up to run the games.
