This has come to me as odd. Why are so many people saying that Halo 5’s Arena hardly has any maps when the game has even more at launch than Halo 3 did? Don’t believe me? Let’s look at the initial, 4v4-based maps for both games.
Halo 5 (not including the five Breakout maps):
-Coliseum
-Eden
-Empire
-Fathom
-Orion
-Plaza
-Regret
-Alpine
-Pegasus
-The Rig
-Truth
Yes, I do hope to get even more maps with the free DLC (and I hope for a remake of Guardian, my favorite map), but as of now, I’m wondering why so many people are complaining that there aren’t enough maps for Arena.
well i hope you realize that like 5 of those are variants of each other. 3 being midship. and only 5 or 6 are actually in the playlist that includes all 3 midships.

Everything I highlighted: Forge maps (not unique) and remixes (Same exact maps with different scenery).
Other than that, all the maps are pretty similar: Industrial settings, with a bunch of random staircases, narrow hallways, etc.
Orion and Pegasus (forge maps) are ugly and boring.
Coliseum, Truth and Regret are excellent maps.
But I don’t like UNSC industrial themed maps, they all look the same (except maybe Plaza). Eden and Empire are so uninspired…
Im waiting an Sanghelios themed map and an Sunaion themed map, please 343 !
The city/industrial maps that make up the majority of the H5 maps will never be as memorable or as interesting as most maps from H1, H2, H3, or Reach. They’re homogeneous, they’re all the same flavor. While in the moment you can recognize one and remember the layout, they are thematically barren.
It’s a shame too because the gameplay has improved and the structure for a competitive scene is there when it wasn’t in the past. I find myself wanting to play but when a map gets selected I find myself saying “Which one is this again? Oh… that one.”
And while breakout is a neat gametype and I can see what 343 was aiming for by making it a ‘training scenario’ in the game, the maps you play it on are even more devoid of a soul than the regular maps. Chunky modular boxes in a sterile field don’t make memories.
