Hunters should be massive Spartan killers. Not earthworms in armor. The new version makes sense. The hunters were able to defeat all covenant ground forces before they got armor and weapons. They even killed an Arbiter. The only thing that stopped them was the threat of orbital bombardment.

> Reason: Only 1 Spartan is required to defeat 2 Hunters, NOT 24.

> If you remember playing on the ship “Truth and Reconsiliation” in Halo 1, you’ll know what I’m talking about. You’ll remember that Master Chief was able to defeat 2 or more Hunters on his own on Legendary difficulty (not to mention already defeating invisible Elites before they showed up) without the aid of others (because the marines died too easily). You probably died a few times fighting the hunters, who were a pain in the -Yoink-, but most of the time, you were able to defeat them. You were able to walk up to a hunter and manoeuvre out of the way before it hits you. You were able to evade it’s attacks including its fuel rod cannons. It was hard but you could defeat them, ON YOUR OWN.
>
> In Halo 5’s campaign, me and my crew (4 in total) were struggling to fight the Hunters on herioc difficulty on Sanghellios. This shouldn’t been such a problem for us but it was. It was very unusual to play a Halo game where the Hunter would strike every time you were within a few feet away from it. It was unusual to fight the Hunters who never missed a shot. It was very unusual to fight the Hunters because they stood in the same spot the whole time and never moved or actually tried to sneak up on us while we were trying to take cover. The same goes for Warzone. These “legendary” hunters, are BULLET SPONGES!
>
> Go back to Halo 3 on the Ark, I remember fighting Hunters on both Heroic and Legendary difficulties, and yes they were a pain in the -Yoink- to beat, mainly because of their serious damage, but you know these hunters would actually come looking for you if you were taking cover so the could kill you. These hunters were still vulnerable and could be defeated by just 1 or 2 players. These Hunters fuel rod cannons would NOT always hit you and predict your movements. These Hunters were hard but also very interesting to fight, and eventually we came up with a strategy to beat the Hunters, just 1 or 2 of us!!! We didn’t need a whole army to take them down.
>
> Go back to Halo 3: ODST on Legendary, I used to hate the Hunters. I would avoid them at all cost because I hated crawling through the streets of New Mombasa in the dark. Occassionally though I had no choice but to fight them if they were in my way, and Lord behold they were hard, but I still defeated them on my own. I died a couple times sure, so you could say I respawned only to fight them again, but this time they would be beaten. I could run around them, shoot them, miss both their fuel cannon shots if I timed their actions carefully, evade their punches (otherwise I would die) and it was very rewarding, relieving for me to kill them.
>
> Fast forward to Halo 5, you can NOT do any of things to fight hunters. You can not evade their fuel rod cannons. They WILL punch you if you get near them. They won’t miss a heartbeat. You can’t sneak up on them. You can’t run around them. You can barely beat them on your own. I dare you to fight those hunters on your own in Warzone ALONE and you will die and you barely hurt them. Your strategies will not work on them. 343 has made sure that it doesn’t take skill to beat them, but it takes LOADS of firepower.
>
> I’ve tried to tell my friends that the changes made for the Hunters are not good. They are too hard. I’ve tried telling my friends it only takes 1 Spartan to kill 2 hunters yet they believe it’s much better to have 24 to kill them. Worse yet, 24 Spartans still struggle to kill the Hunters in Warzone because they are practically immortal UNLESS you have serious firepower. You will NEVER be able to take 2 hunters down on your own in Warzone because it takes firepower to kill them, not skill. You don’t need a rocket launcher to beat 2 of them even though that would be fantastic, Hunters can in fact be beaten even with a plasma rifle or an SMG. Not in Halo 5. Dare prove me wrong? Do you think that it’s better to have the Hunters so untouchable? Or would you prefer to take 2 on by yourself, die a few times maybe, but come up with a strategy to kill them instead of shooting a bullet sponge?
>
> I know what I’d rather, I’d much rather fight 2 hunters with just SOME friends, take cover as I distract one, while my team mates shoot it, then the hunters will try to punch them but my crew is able to evade their attacks (mostly), and after my shields recharge I can Spartan charge that one to death and then focus our attention on the second Hunter. The second Hunter will have already been firing on my team mates, so it’s my turn to fight it. It’s already started to creep up to my team who are hiding so I’ll run around it evade it’s attacks. I’ll punch it and shoot it with my SMG until it drops within. This entire battle should 1 or 2 minutes for just a few of us, not 5-10 minutes for 24 (what a joke right). That’s what I’d prefer.

> NOTE: Tgis article is not intended to rant about Halo 5, I am merely comparing how difficult it is to fight Hunters in Halo 5 than it is in other Halo games. In other Halo games 1 Spartan was able to fight 2 Hunters using different skills, evading its attacks, and within a short period of time. Thankyou for reading!
i agree with what you are saying but the hunters will be and should be harder in Warzone Firefight
Hunters haven’t really been fun since H1&2 IMO. With the new Spartan abilities, I wish they’d return to a more Halo 2 style attack pattern.
I really hate fighting hunters in Halo 5 cause you cant evade them. Halo Ce hunters were too easy Halo 2 were the best
Hunters are one challenge we need don’t mock them being op
these hunters are the best out of the series, they carry such weight with them on the battlefield and are a serious danger unlike in CE, i never struggled with the hunters on leg solo, they defintly play more defensevly but i consider that a welcome change as it requires to use all your assets e.g. i sent my team to face the hunters while i run round a wreck em. also id never expect to take on hunters in WZ as i bet there stats have been increased to compensate for more players. hunters are perfect in this… elites however -_-
I have to disagree about their difficulty as I think their the dumbest one to date. Do the achievement where you have to make both jump off sanghelios and you may see what I mean, I spent an hour doing it and they were very unresponsive if I stood next to them to trigger their melee. Plus if you ask me their health is still the same as any other halo game, warzone hunters don’t count simply cuz they’re mini bosses that NEED to be scaled to 24 players or else why have them if they’ll die immediately? I’m suprised you find an issue with them being harder to kill to begin with cuz h5 is the easiest campaign to date and has the weakest A.I. Excluding eternal.

Exactly, and many of the commenters here think that’s a wonderful thing. First game in history where you enjoy losing despite your best efforts.
Do we really need to have weak Hunters? Besides, it’s not like the older Hunters were any less bullet spongey.

Well, CE hunters were one shot with the magnum. I honestly like them the way they are now.

I found many AIs incredibly dumb in Halo 5. In the latest update some AI have improved their manuverability apparently. Hunters were extremely non interactive from my Campaign experience. They stood around in the same spot, never hunting for me or my team. They never missed a shot which was annoying because you could barely look at one if you were by yourself without being blasted and having no way to avoid their attacks. Heavily improved accuracy, less interactions (ie movement, evading, finding the player etc), extra health and damage, do NOT make an AI smarter and this includes the hunters. That’swhy im annoyed with H5’s Hunters. Hunters aren’t the major factor why I am displeased with the campaign though, it’s mainly the Soldiers and the severely dumbed down Knights, which I’ll write about in my next article.
I thought Halo 5’s hunters were the only ones that were done right: they’re supposed to be mini-bosses, basically. Halo CE’s could be killed with 1 shot, and the rest were super sluggish and easy to circle-strafe around. The only mildly difficult hunters before now were the ones in ODST, since you couldn’t jump over them.
I will say I think hunters were a tad too easy to kill in previous games but OP is right they got insanely strong in Halo 5. I don’t think anything except the warden took me longer legendary solo. Supremely accurate and they never miss melees for OSKs. So annoying.
So, how do you think the WZFF hunters will be?

24 vs 2 Hunters = 3 minutes. 8 Spartans = 9 minutes.
I haven’t tried this in warzone because I’m still grinding silver packs. but for those who can use the halo ce pistol in warzone, shoot the hunter in the back and see if it one shots it. I doubt it will but it would be interesting if 343 put that mechanic in As a referance to CE.
Hunters in H5 are the best they have ever been. Finally a bit of a challenge!
I disagree. While you may wish that game remained easy, and the AI predictable, I prefer having this new Hunter AI. Using their shield to bat grenades back at their enemies, not dying to a single shot from a magnum, all of it goes a long way to make them a feared enemy again. In previous Halo’s, the hunters were trivial to take down. Walk around it in a circle, dodge the offhand back swing, continue walking in a circle. They are supposed to be tough.
Also, the warzone hunters have more health because they are bosses. Just saying.
They are extremely hard in Warzone (But that’s to make up for the fact that they have to fight 24 Spartans). In campaign I didn’t have nearly as hard a time with them, but, I get what you’re saying about not being able to use old strategies. In the previous titles you could dance around them using whatever weapon you had to try and kill them. If I get up close to them now they simply laugh and send me flying through the air with their super fast backhanded slaps.
It’s all good though. I still feel accomplished when I kill one in Warzone.
my thing is that hunters aren’t hard to kill alone. it’s just very tedious. equip a anti vehicle weapon an just spray them. it does a little bit of damage. this or a favorite strategy of mine is to get a silenced smg an while the hunters distracted sneak up an start spraying it in the back. he’ll take awhile to actually find you an you do allot of damage but yea. allot of halo 5 miniboss enemies are really just big fat bullet sponges
