Sorry if this topic has already been discussed, I don’t browse the forums that often.
Anyway, I just wanted to get an idea on the communities feelings regarding the title of this game, specifically the Guardians subtitle. Personally I am not a fan, to me subtitles imply a spin off, and in the worst cases a lack of confidence to call it a fully fledged main series release, as was the case (presumably) with Assassin’s Creed IV.
That aside it really hurts my OCD, I have Halo 1-4 in a row with the spinoffs next to them, with the addition of the MCC this title hurts even more, I know this isn’t just myself as my friends have expressed the same feelings.
I’m sure no one really cares about what I think, at least not enough to prompt a response from the powers that be, but if anyone has similar thoughts/concerns about the title give me a heads up.
yeah halo: combat evolved was such a spin-off bro.
subtitles are a way for each game to separate themselves from others in the series, it would gotten silly going up to halo 57 without one to be honest, it’ll make it easier to differentiate between the titles which is a good thing IMO.
Sorry allow me to reword, main series as in the Chief games, I love ODST as a spinoff, CE fair enough, Reach, as I said isn’t a Chief game.
And yeah, fair enough about it relating to the story, but the fact they established a naming convention from 2 onwards is just something that gets me. And yeah the titles would be generic if they were all numbered, I have nothing against the ones not featuring Chief having subtitles.
Sorry I wasn’t clear, also if I wasn’t clear, I will be looking forward to this game and will pick it up day one, it’s more an OCD thing, and I wondered if anyone felt the same.
Second most pointless complaint of the series. The first is…well you know what I’m referring to, it was a recent topic with horrible grammar that everyone saw I’m sure.

you don’t have to be mean…

why does the MC in your eyes only deserve numbers and the others don’t? I mean I just don’t understand why in your eyes somehow master chief deserves a numerical order and somehow games that don’t feature him as the main character do not.
> OCD.
that’s your issue, not ours, their is no obligation whatsoever to do this and that just because you have a disorder, you should try to fix that issue you have on your own and not try to make the world revolve around your specific needs.
I’m not saying they don’t deserve numbers, it’s just that it all looks neat if the Chief games are 1-6 (or CE-6) and the subtitled games are just that, for example ODST, which I enjoyed and thought was great but by having the 3 in it’s name it is limited to being under 3’s shadow, whereas if it had just Halo: ODST it would fit nicely with Halo: Wars, Halo: Reach etc.
And I know it’s my issue I just wondered if anyone else feels the same way. I hope no one feels this is an attack on the game, that was not my point, as mentioned I am looking forward to it greatly.
I didn’t see the thread and it’s not a complaint of the series, it’s just this subtitle and the way games are named in general, I mention Halo because, Halo forums, Halo website. My issue is with the whole practice of using subtitles in a weird way, point in hand the Alien franchise which is just a mess.

Thats not very nice
You could have gotten your message across in a less blunt way.
The poor guy has a mental disorder, why blame the victim?

Your being a bit of a jerk, no offence, why can’t everyone just be friendly to each other? Back when Halo 4 was coming out this community was a lot friendlier. Even when people disagreed.

OCD is not something you are born with (to my knowledge) nor is it something that is incurable, he is a victim of his own self at best, he should focus on trying to fix that issue of his instead of saying that games should be done this and that way just to supplement his own flaws, it may sound cruel but its true.

no it wasn’t… their were tons and tons of rather hateful arguments and debates that centered around settings and map selection and sprint and other garbage, right now the halo community is far more unified and polite than they were about a year ago, it may have to do with H2A or halo 5 I can’t say for sure but I left this community for months because of how people would act and treat one another.
all I really want to say to you is that your in a much better position now than you would’ve been around halo 4’s launch, and that’s all I really have to say atm.
Halo: Reach… I would consider it a main title as it does feature the UNSC Pillar Of Autumn, Captain Jacob Keyes, Doctor Catherine Halsey and Smart-AI Cortana… even the Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 makes a appearance, via an easter egg.
And my opinion of the subtitles is probably to make that game a stand alone memory… and connect the memory to the suffix “Combat Evolved” “Reach” “ODST” “Wars” “Anniversary”… and thus “Gaurdians”… they did say it was going to be the darkest Halo game ever, certainly a huge promise.
But if all the main titles had subtitles I would make them this…
I kind of wish the previous games had subtitles like Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 5: Guardians. It sounds much more powerful than simply referring to them by numbers. As long as you’ve got a number in it and clear marketing, nobody should confuse it with a spin-off for now.
Besides, I think 343i mentioned somewhere that they’re going to have to stop using numbers someday. They said it could become stale and they don’t want to resemble Final Fantasy. I’d have to agree with that. I’m just sorry I can’t find the link.

I like some of these titles, especially ‘Halo 3: Believe’ and ‘Halo 4: Awakening.’ But I’m rather conflicted about your choice of name for Halo 2. That would have been a pretty big spoiler if that was what the game was released as. Players didn’t initially know that they would play as The Arbiter or that the events of the game would lead to the Schism between the Covenant.
