Halo 5: Guardians Unfinished at Release

I’ve been noticing an unfortunate (and downright annoying) trend occurring with every Halo game’s launch since 2012, which is that each game including Halo 5: Guardians is released with important features, modes, and custom options either missing or completely dysfunctional at launch. Please keep in mind that I’m bringing this issue up not to mindlessly complain about the game, but to bring to light an issue that has been bothering me as a long time Halo fan.

Halo 4 (2012):

  • File Sharing dysfunctional - Many fan-favorite custom game options missing (one example being Alpha Zombies) - Lack of a big Forge map with a lot of space - Campaign theater removed (for no good reason) - Spartan Ops not Available at LaunchHalo: The Master Chief Collection (2014):

  • Matchmaking as a whole dysfunctional - Main Menu dysfunctional - File Share browser missing - Campaign theater (even for the games that previously supported it on Xbox 360) stripped - Spartan Ops not Available at LaunchHalo: 5: Guardians (2015):

  • File Share as a whole missing - Forge as a whole missing - An extreme amount of fan-favorite custom game options missing (including Infection) - Campaign theater still MIA - Split-screen MIAI may be missing some examples, but these were/are the biggest problems for me. I understand that many of these issues in past games were corrected through updates and free DLC, but the problem is that it took months for these corrections to take place. Now with Halo 5: Guardians we have to yet again wait for months until some time in December for Forge, file sharing, and fan-favorite custom game options to (hopefully) be completely added via free DLC.

Waiting months after launch for a fully complete and fully functional (minus minor the problems associated with most game launches) Halo game that has every fan-favorite custom game option out of the box at launch has been and always will be unacceptable. Every Halo game released before 2012 never experienced these problems on this magnitude, so I’m not sure why they are now.

343i, please do not allow Halo 6 (and beyond) to be released until every aspect of the game is complete and fully functional.

This post in no way is designed to compare 343i to Bungie, so do not treat it as such. And no, I’m not entitled. No, I’m not impatient. I’m just shedding light on an issue I feel needs to be addressed.

well campaign theater is confirmed as far as I’m aware by the halo live trailers

As for the spoiler tag. Thank you for atleast making a constructive post, and not comparing 343 to bungie because 343 can be considered as bungie with the amount of ex-bungies in there.

Yeah just look at the effin lobby!! :frowning:

Ughhh

I feel lime you do make some good points…especially with Forge, one thing to be mindful of is there is a difference between design decision and incomplete. Some of the features that we have grown accustomed to are not merely incomplete, but just aren’t coming. Ex. Splitscreen. The way that I look at it is each Halo game has a finite development cycle and that being the case, I would prefer the game be released instead of delaying it to add extra features. If you look at what is packaged, there is a boatload of content and features. Are there something’s missing that are coming later? Sure. Were some of the things you listed design decisions that we shouldn’t expect to see? Absolutely. To play devils advocate, if Halo CE wouldn’t have been released until 2015, maybe they would have had all those features and the stories of all 5 games ECT…but at some point you need to draw a line in the sand and say we have enough content to justify our customers paying $60 to purchase. In my opinion, they do. Halo Is far more involved than it used to be back in the earlier iterations. There is alot of time, work, and pressure to always continue to add features but never remove any. I am just happy that 343 is planning to release additional post release content as opposed to just leaving things as they stand.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Let’s see here…what pretell could possibly be the common denominator here? What could it possibly be??? What do these game share in common. Why did they all have issues as soon as they were sold to consumers…

I’m at a total loss here.

Oh wait…

Could it be they were all made by…wait for it…

343i ?

You missed for both Halo 4 and MCC that Spartan Ops wasn’t available at launch (and the first set of missions led one to wonder why they were held back).

Also, @iiSpeciaList: the guy is saying that Custom games do not have the game variants available. This has nothing to do with social playlists. My friends and I like playing Infection, and it sucks that it isn’t available. There is almost nothing available that isn’t already in an arena playlist and that’s not a good thing.

Exactly how many Bungie employees are there?

Anyone notice that it isn’t just 343i? How about the last couple of years? what about the previous game line up that turned to -Yoink-?

I feel like a gaming companies are taking after one another as if they are all going the same general direction with their games. I feel like some kinda over hanging power is dictating the norm for games and the gaming industry. what ever happened to good games doing their own thing? sure you could be arrogant and ignorant to the fact that many of the failed games over the past few years is due to lack of originality. it’s as if each is trying to out do the other and eventually someone is going to hit the right combo and BOOM change the industry forever. but with were the industry is heading I can’t see it living on forever, or finding that right combo to unlock the next best thing, no matter how hyped up it is, or how much you try and sell it.

I loved the Game, it has it’s draw backs, it also has it’s highlights. but in the end all I can see is another game following a typical formula that all others are using, I see a failing gaming industry with no way of ever being resurrected.

Its cause 343 is also in the habit of promising what they can’t deliver.

And on a side note, don’t actually expect forge to come in December. We are probably looking at a February release based on 404’s track record.\

#inb4delayannouncement

If MS loves and cares about Halo as much as they say they do they would take their time as much as they need to make sure everything is 100% and top notch before they release it instead of rushing. Because if they continue this pattern soon they will have pushed away a large amount of people who buy their game and lose out even more support and their brand will be a shell of its former self.

There are VERY few ex-Bungie employees at 343. I believe it’s 5 or so.

You make it seem like 343i is made up mostly of former Bungie employees. Where do you get your information from?

Do you know how many former Bungie staff 343i employs?
3!

His point was it’s unfinished at LAUNCH.

Your counter points are just confirming what he’s saying!

It’s NOT acceptable for us to constantly get unfinished games from 343 that need update after update before we get what we want.

And what were they smoking when they decided to take infection from custom games? It was the most popular playlist!!

And we’re going to have to wait for a weekend every once and while to play it?

Lets just cut the pap and just admit 343 are just terrible decision makers, and poor planners. This is proven by 3 questionable launches, or just 3 DEBACLES!

I mean, Halo 2 was a gigantic failure at the end of the compaign, but at least Bungie came forward, admitted it, apologised and explained what happened. I remember Frankie promising to explain why the MCC was a broken mess and he never did.

A couple of months ago, Frankie said on NeoGAF that there were “only a few”.

I count:

  • Three full-time 343 employees who were full-time Bungie employees who worked on Halo (Frank O’Connor, Glenn Israel, Greg Snook)

  • Three full-time 343 employees who were full-time Bungie employees who worked on Destiny, but not Halo (Darren Bacon, Daniel Chavez, Jim Donovan)

  • A few people who worked as contractors on one of Bungie’s Halo games, and went on to become full-time 343 employees (Donnie Taylor, Will Christiansen and Dan Phillips)Anyone I’m missing?

I agree that things are missing, but I’m fine with it AT LEAST as we get them sooner or later like forge.
This is probably a compromise they made to keep the release date and you shouldn’t forget, that the release went pretty smoothly compared to other releases lately.
What we got is fully functional with only a few, minor exceptions.
What matters now is, that they keep working on this game and give us what they promised.

So pretty much none. I don’t know why so many people continue to claim 343 is mostly ex bungie employees when frankie himself has stated that to not be true. It only takes a bit of research to debunk that claim.
