Halo 4 killed Halo for me, and when I played it, I told myself that Halo would never be the same. When Halo 5 Guardians was announced however, I was filled with excitement. 343i, please don’t mess up with this Halo like you guys did with Halo 4. I’m hoping it brings back the TRUE Halo experience!
I’m not getting my hopes up.
However, what we need is a discussion of what makes Halo “Halo.” If we as a community can pin down and agree upon the right balance between Halo’s founding gameplay philosophies and the current features in Halo 4, then perhaps we can even convince 343 themselves if we have a strong enough argument and enough support.
I got disappointed with both Halo Reach and Halo 4. Halo 5 is dangling on a very thin string right now! I won’t buy it before I know there is a true classic playlist in the game.
Look. I have a strategy for you. Why expect anything? If you don’t expect anything, you don’t get disappointed.
For me, Halo Reach was a great game. Halo 4 was just a huge disappointment for me, which had me really surprised. If 343i learns from their mistakes and sets a new foundation for the future of the series, rather than Halo 4’s shaky foundation, there is still hope for this franchise. But I think that no one should get their hopes up just yet, because little info has been released as of now.
343 needs to understand who the true audience is and build the game accordingly. They’ve said that halo 4 was a learning experience for them in that regard, but which audience will they consider is still up in the air.

I would find it pretty pathetic if they don’t know what audience to appeal to.
Just make the game based off balance and competitiveness you can make a game casual when it originally was competitive but you cant do it vice versa

My thoughts exactly
Halo 4 was a fun game for me - campaign and multiplayer. That fun however, didn’t last as long as earlier installments, and largely for the randomness it brought in.
That aside, there’s already a thread just like this here https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst242651_343--Guardians-can-save-Halo.aspx
Thread name is pretty similar too
I loved the direction Halo 4s story/campaign went, I was easily my favourite since Halo Combat Evolved and I can wait to see where its going.
Multiplayer on the other hand was a massive let down for me. The randomness in 4v4 combat wasn’t fun and in big team battle vehicles felt useless, I felt I was better of on foot.
I truly believe 343I have listened and have figured out where they went wrong. I can’t help feeling hyped for the next game as Halo is my favourite games series. Hopefully we’ll see some gameplay or a trailer at E3 next month.
As angered with Halo 4 as I was, even I was still excited to learn of Halo 5 as well.
To be honest: if this game doesn’t come out right I am planning on leaving the community altogether and switch to some other game (like Destiny) to call home. Of course I have huge hopes for Halo 5 and am very sure that 343 industries will make it the game that we all deserve.
However, they’ve already changed Halo so much that they can’t possibly make it feel exactly like the classic games. Although, we can still expect to see some if not most classic elements returning in Halo 5.
Some of my suggested things to bring back is a classic multiplayer feel, because Halo 4’s doesn’t even feel like a Halo multiplayer. However, all Halo games have been changed in multiplayer, but the changes have been everywhere since Halo 3 ODST. For this reason, saying they can’t change the multiplayer from what Halo 4 gave us is highly illogical.
Although gameplay may come back to normal, I wouldn’t expect to see the lore return to the same state and nor should it. The lore of the Halo Universe has increased hugely and in a positive way since 343 industries has taken control of Halo. For those of you who did not like Halo 4’s campaign, they can’t change this especially if the rumors of the concept art taking place on Sangheilios is true.
All we really can do at this point is hope for the best at E3.

I agree. The story telling is so much more interesting now. If 343i can hold that quality of story, I think I will be happy with the next games.
I do agree the story for halo 4 and spartan ops were very good though I found the missions boring for the most part. and multiplayer was where I was highly disappointed.
For the most part, Reach was the beginning of the end for many hardcore halo fans. I say this with complete objectivity, it is too late to “save” halo. You have either accepted it will never be what it used to be or you have moved on.
Sad but true.
I feel if they do obvious moves, such as dropping perks, support upgrades, PODs, flinch and loadouts… it can truly be back to true Halo prime time.
I would say drop sprint at this point, but it is not as ‘no brainer’ as the above points. Maybe have sprint / loadout support in customs.
Halo could come back ONLY if they drop COD stuff and make it HALO. And this is coming from a guy that actually enjoys Halo 4 online.
Make a game for the fans. Properly implement the DLC playable to keep us playing. Drop gimmicks. Add skill ranks and more XP progression. Profit.
