As of the announcement of the Reclaimer Saga, Halo gametypes are becoming stagnant and repetitive, simply put, they don’t prolong boredom anymore or maintain the population upkeep post release; thus the Halo games are not as sustainable as they use to be.
We have had the same gametypes since 2001, to which, 343 Industries may need to reflect, revise and overhaul the multiplayer, to create some new ways for fans to become enthusiastic again. The classic deathmatch, capture the flag and king of the hill recipe has been in most first person shooter variants since the days of old, and so innovation needs to be implemented once more…
All the Halo gametypes we have encounter so far are:
• Slayer – Halo: Combat Evolved
• Capture The Flag – Halo: Combat Evolved
• King Of The Hill – Halo: Combat Evolved
• Oddball – Halo: Combat Evolved
• Race – Halo: Combat Evolved
• Juggernaut – Halo 2
• Assault – Halo 2
• Territories – Halo 2
• VIP – Halo 3
• Infection – Halo 3
• Firefight - Halo 3: ODST
• Arena – Halo: Reach
• Headhunter – Halo: Reach
• Stockpile – Halo: Reach
• Invasion – Halo: Reach
• Dominion – Halo 4
• Extraction – Halo 4
• Regicide – Halo 4
• Ricochet – Halo 4
• Grifball – Halo 4
• Spartan Ops – Halo 4
• Breakout – Halo 5: Guardians
• Strongholds – Halo 5: Guardians
I suggest instead of doing another arena-based match type, to instead focus on creating new experiences which favour a round-based objective type, where teams possess different roles, much like Juggernaut, Infection, VIP, Firefight, Invasion and Spartan Ops.
I believe Spartan Ops should return, however, instead of being an online co-operative plot driven campaign, it should be a section where it houses simulated battlefield scenarios like Halo: Spartan Assault and Halo: Spartan Strike; to which allow players to control the Covenant Remnant Sangheili, or Jiralhanae, and UNSC Spartans, in dedicated situations. This way the game mode would be separate from multiplayer arena mode, yet would be a third unique mode that could feature:
• Firefight – Lockdown and hold a location. (UNSC/Covenant)
• Extraction – Extract or kill the civilian colonists. (UNSC)
• Invasion – Capture the enemy base and acquire their power core. (UNSC/Covenant)
• Excavation – Obtain the Forerunner artifact. (Covenant)
• Convoy/Raid – Protect or raid the Elephant. (UNSC)
• VIP – Escort or assassinate the VIP. (UNSC/Covenant)
• Infiltration – Infiltrate the enemy base and obtain the Intel without being detected. (UNSC/Covenant)
• Flood – Survive the infection. (UNSC-Covenant)
This new Spartan Ops iteration would remove the pressure of creating new locations or plots, yet still could allow great cinematics and updated historical scenarios or episodes… every month.
