So i just spent a day waiting for my xbox to install this game, its 100 gigs, and took forever!
But i endured just so i could play this with my mate, i got a second controller
And at the end of the day i am greeted by a message that i need xbox live gold to play it co-op, and that my mate needs xbox live gold to play co-op, and a xbox one, and halo 5
Now im bummed out, and my mate even more
Hes never gonna get a xbox, especially after this
He doesnt even want to play the game in turns anymore, or at all for that matter
I guess were both just done
But what pisses me off most is that this game got a 60 gig update, and didnt add this!
Thats more than the game itself! And it takes up half my hard drive!
I have no words for this other than “why”?
And a question regarding what the 60 GB update added
This page goes into detail about the updates. Basically, Halo 5 was released as a service which is why it received so many updates over time.
We can speculate on why there was no split screen or any form of local play beyond campaign, but none of those speculations flatter Microsoft and 343i’s management of the game.
If I can make a suggestion, buy MCC or subscribe to Xbox Game Pass and play that instead of H5. MCC received a major update last year and has become an incredibly good game, especially if you want to play with friends.

Thanks for the reply, ill take a look
But i doubt it will justify the entirety of the witcher 3 + all DLC in terms of download size for the DLC alone
I had to give up gold around the time halo 5 came out though, so i cant say
I bought my xbox for MCC actually, and i love those games!
I dont know anyone who has a xbox unfortunately, just ps4/switch users
Which only adds to my current fustration

A lot of times, the large updates serve to replace existing code and end up reducing the overall file size. For example, I distinctly recall there being one update for H5 which ended up reducing the game’s size from 105-110GB to about 95GB. Can’t recall the size of the update itself though. Not a fan of a game receiving multiple updates like that regardless haha.
Glad you’re enjoying MCC. If you’re looking for people to play with, Waypoint is a great place to make new Halo friends. You’ll find there are a lot of people who post here regularly and frequently play some form of Halo or another. I think MCC is the most popular Halo title for multiplayer at the moment also.

LMAO
I had the same frustrating set of events when I got the game myself. My wife bought it for me & my kids to play because we like Halo & Gears, my wife lost her mind when she found it there was no local co-op ! Now Everytime my son complains about needing help my wife just gives me “that sad look”
Yeah 343 really screwed up dropping local co-op .

It may have been a sort of showcase of the fidelity of Halo 5: Guardians as split screen tends to lower frame rate .
