So far this is all we have to go by in terms of the campaign. This is the official description put out by 343.

Peace is shattered when colony worlds are unexpectedly attacked. But when humanity’s greatest hero goes missing, a new Spartan is tasked with hunting the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy.

  1. So we know that Chief is AWOL thanks to the epilogue to H2A. But in the E3 2013 teaser trailer we see Chief wandering on what many speculated to be the Ark. Now with the new box art and the old official teaser image, it looks like Chief is on Sanghelios. We don’t know why he’d be on Sanghelios or the Ark.

  2. Locke is hunting him down. I’m guessing not hunting to kill him but to find him and bring him back to help defend the colonies under attack. Mike Colter said it comes down to dead or alive in a manhunt so I’m assuming he’s just going to find and see if he’s dead or alive.

  3. If Chief is on Sanghelios, then Chief must’ve gone to the Arbiter. Arbiter looked somewhat surprised to see that Locke was hunting down Chief. “I was not told the identity of your prey. What do you call him? 117, the Master Chief. He is not your friend, is he your foe? If he has left the fold I’m sure he has his reasons.” Arbiter is really suspicious of Locke in my opinion. Plus they’re heading to giant bird thing from the teaser trailer so I wonder what that is.

  4. What is that giant bird thing? Many have said War Sphinx, a Seeker and the most popular is the tomb of Mendicant Bias. If it is the tomb of MB then there’s proof to that they’re on the ark.

  5. What is attacking the colonies? Insurrectionists, Covenant or Prometheans?

  6. What is this mystery that threatens the Galaxy? What could be that big of an issue that it threatens the Galaxy?

  7. The Didact isn’t dead. We know thanks to the Halo 4 terminals that the Ur-Didact is immune to composition but in Halo Escalation, we see him being disintegrated by the 6 composers. But with that much radiation going off at once maybe it composed him. Or maybe he’ll just be a digitized abomination.

  8. Is it set directly after Halo Escalations’s events or after Spartan Ops?

The campaign is looking to be really good. We’re getting the Arbiter, Jul Mdama, the other new Didact’s Hand jn the new Escalation, Locke, Master Chief, return of Buck, Spirit of Fire, the Flood, and another whole bunch of new and returning characters and factions. 343i better pull this campaign off like none other.

Firstly, it is good that there is a thread about the story, multiplyer threads are…aww never mind.
To your 5 question, it’d be nice or interesting to see Insurrectionists in the game, but probably the unexpected attack not their responsibility. The story/end of Halo Escalations maybe give us some hint why colony worlds are attacked.
6 - Don’t forget about the Flood.
7 - If I’m correct that 343i said that the Didact will return, so somehow he must be appear in Halo 5.
