Halo 5 - Graphics and art designs feedback

So I wanted to talk about the graphics and art designs in Halo 5 based on what we have seen so far.

Let’s start with the graphics, the quality of the graphics are really good but the lightning and reflection effects really need some work. There is way too much lightning at the moment making it sometimes blinding to look at a certain direction, this has mostly to do with the sun, it is blinding which is not a good thing. It may look beautiful but it really affects gameplay in a way it can create disadvantages in gunfights.

Another dislike I have with the graphics is the amount of light reflection on objects and the shiny look of them. They make the art look less beautiful which is something that should not be the case since art makes a game beautiful not the graphics. Graphics make a game look good but the art makes a game look beautiful, art makes a game unique and stand out and with all the reflections on objects, the shine on a lot of objects and the large amount of lightning make the art look a lot less unique and special.

Sometimes it feels like 343 is trying to make Halo 5 look more realistic which is something I highly recommend NOT to do. Halo is not realistic and should not look realistic. Halo is science fiction and 343 should you this as an opportunity to do some crazy and unique things with the art and graphics. Use more colors to make it very clear what part of the map you are, don’t use lightning to distinct mapparts, use actual mapcolors. Actual mapcolors make a map look a lot more unique and special than a red or blue light or hologram. Colors are timeless and that’s what the combination of graphics and art should create in Halo 5, a timeless and unique look that will always be recognizable.

The design of the new Rocket Launcher does not fit the Halo universe or atleast the colors on it don’t. Make it have the same colors and marks like the one in Halo 4 so it atleast looks like the iconic and unique rocket launcher.

Some of the weapons also need some more color. For example the DMR really has a bland look which is a shame since I really liked the way it looked in Halo 4. Add some colors to it. The same goes for the BR, there are some yellow stripes on it but barely visible. I would suggest to make the yellow stripes less grey.

The Spartans in Halo 5 also look a lot less good than in previous Halo games. They look like plastic because of the shine on the armor. Please change this 343 so they will look like actual soldiers and not toys.

The maps in Halo 5 also feel bland, like they have no personality. This is probably because of the issues with the graphics that make the art not stand out and I’m pretty sure changing the graphics to the way described above will make each map look a lot more unique and will give them some character.

So true. The game has the best graphics but artistically looks the worst.

Too many things have a shine effect on them and have too much grey instead of colors making it look like a modern warfare shooter instead of Halo

Graphics are too bright and objects have too much shine.

I agree with this part of what you said but the Spartans look shiny and plastic because of textures not loading in properly. Its most likely a symptom of the game not being finished. Its strange because sometimes they load in and it looks decent and other times it looks like I am playing on the original Xbox in a match of Halo CE. Overall I think they have continued along the of Halo 4 when it comes to color palette and it comes up feeling flat. Blue players especially seem to disappear in certain dark areas of the map. Overall I think the color issue would fix itself if the game was just brighter but with less lense flare nonsense.

True but I wanted to give my feedback on what I currently experienced.

Easy visibility is absolutely crucial to any “arena shooter”.

You’ll notice a lot of CE maps are pretty bright, with more neutral colors (tan and grey instead of a ton of blue or red). Although there are shadows, there aren’t areas of the map that are just engulfed in darkness. Or Quake Live, where the enemy is always colored lime green regardless of which team you are on, to make them stand out.

In Halo 5, and really the past few Halo games to be honest, there’s too much visual clutter. Too much darkness, too many objects, too many areas where one team completely blends into their surroundings. Eden is especially notorious, but even maps like Pegasus have this problem as well.

I’m not fond of the art style either, but I don’t want to get into that right now.

I want Halo 5 to have a level of detail similar to this. Spartans should also have that rugged look to them with a Halo CE/2 colour palette (IMO, the colours in those are not too dark, not too bright) in Halo 5.

Does anybody like the new art style? Halo reach was a far better looking game and that came out in 2011!!

*2010. But yeah, Reach is still the best looking Halo to this date; I couldn’t imagine what it would look like if it comes to Xbox One.

I didn’t like the clunky spartan armors to be honest. The rest is fine. They didn’t feel functional they look like walking vending machines.

Is it just me …
or do the Halo Reach Spartans look better than the Halo 4 Spartans ?
because personally the armor in Halo 4 in my opinion look really chunky and bulky. Which i am not a fan of.

The armor designs look pretty good. I love the Elite-esque look of the Helioskrill armor! I sincerely hope that we get a MJOLNIR Mark IV armor set (the armor from Halo Wars) as some kind of reward for beating Halo 5’s campaign on Legendary, that would be pretty cool. Also, the graphics look absolutely stunning (take note that the beta only had a 720 pixel resolution). But, if you could improve the lighting on some of the darker maps like Eden and Truth then that’ll be fine as well. Also, could you switch to the old design of the rocket launcher that we grew to love over the past decade? I’m not a fan of the new one. Maybe you should keep the design but add an extra barrel to it like the old one had, that should make most of the community happy.
