Halo 5 Gamemodes

I just wanted to express a little issue with on the topic of gamemodes I agree that Halo 5 is due with some new exciting and returning gamemodes. However, I totally disagree with many other people on this forum comparing Halo 5’s current game-modes with games like reach.

At this current time Halo 5 has: 9 Game-modes
Slayer
Team Arena
Breakout
FFA
BTB
Swat
Doubles
Social
Warzone

Halo reach at similar timing of launch had: 9
Slayer
Rumble Pit
Arena
BTB
Invasion
Multi team
Team obj
Firefight
Doubles

And Halo 3 during the same point had:7
Team Slayer/Social
Team obj/Skirmish
Lone wolves/Rumble pit
Double/Social double
Team Tactical
BTB
Multi-team

So what Im getting at here is…don’t sit here and compare Halo 5’s current game mode and say that those games had more game modes because they didn’t. Take your nostalgia goggles off for just for a second because otherwise it makes this whole community look like joke. (Halo 3 and reach didn’t even have Infection at this point)

I think what people are referring to is that Halo 5 has less special game modes. All of the ones you have mentioned add up to 8 Slayer modifications and 1 unique game mode. But in say, Halo Reach, it had 6 Slayer types, Invasion, Team Objective, and Firefight. So it feels like Halo 5 has less because most are Slayer types.

Totally understand, though my point still stands

Yeah, I think people don’t notice it actually does have quite a few modes to play. I just want Infection or any other unique mode because there’s bound to be other modes made from that.

Those aren’t gamemodes, those are playlists.

It doesn’t help that outside of the US it’s impossible to find a game that is not slayer or team arena.

Plus, the Warzone game mode is so great, in both scale and in fun!

There are much fewer gamemodes in Halo 5 than previous titles, oddball, koth, one flag, neutral flag, one bomb, multi bomb, neutral bomb, swat ctf, swat koth, swat oddball, land grab, territories, infection, grifball, action sack. I’m sure I am missing other ones as well but all of these modes have been in since Halo 2 other than Halo 4 and even Halo 4 had oddball, koth, extraction, ricochet, action sack, infection, ect.

Halo 5 has strongholds, ctf, and slayer and slayer variant modes. People have every right to complain for the lack of content.

Gamemodes and Matchmaking Playlists are 2 different things

No a playlist would be social or ranked

Oddball, Koth, assault (all variants), one flag, neutral flag, were in since Halo 2 and other than assault all were in since CE.

Mujahid, we are talking about what is IN the game like in customs at the least. In which case past Halos did have these in customs to be playable where as Halo 5 has NO option to play them anywhere.

Personally I feel like it does not when we are talking about variety. Most of these are just rehashed slayer.

Plus you might wanna count in the temporary playlist trend that 343i is so hell bent on.

When we speak of a lack of gametypes, we aren’t talking about playlists. Halo 5 has:

Slayer
CTF
Strongholds
Breakout (which is basically a Slayer variant)
Warzone
Warzone Assault

What it’s desperately missing:
Oddball
Assault
Ricochet
Griffball
King of the Hill
Race
Infection
Juggernaught

As is, there isn’t even a Team Objective playlist because there are only two objective gametypes in Arena. That’s a really, really small amount compared to previous Halos, even Halo 4 beat it by a huge margin and that game was criticized for missing Custom Games options.

Now keep in mind, the big reason we all want gametypes is not just to make Arena interesting (though it is growing stale)- we want it because Forge is near useless without a good set of Custom Games to back it up and allow some smart players to use and abuse the game to their advantage and create some truly awesome, surprising maps and gametypes of their own. Take away Custom Games options, and you’re wasting the best iteration of Forge in any Halo game to date (Halo 5 Forge), which is just a real shame.

Wouldn’t Warzone classed as objective…my point is Halo reach to start off with only had CTF, stockpile and headhunters in the obj playist at launch

I get that Custom is important…however I wss stressing to the people comparing Halo reach playlist gamemodes with halo 5’s

Warzone is not objective, I will give you warzone assault as an objective, Kind of since there is only one round and it was clearly thrown in last minute.
Here is a list of Halo Reach’s gametypes and updates. The game was released on September 14th 2010.

Gametypes

  • 1 Bomb Assault

  • 1 Flag CTF

  • 1 Flag Pro

  • 2 Flag Pro

  • 2 Flag Classic

  • 3 Plots

  • Crazy King

  • Crazy King Pro

  • Multiflag CTF

  • Neutral Bomb

  • Oddball

  • Team Headhunter

  • Team Hot Potato

  • Stockpile

  • Stockpile Pro

  • Territories

  • Crazy King

  • Crazy King Pro
    Updates

  • October 5th, 2010

  • Added Crazy King

  • Added several gametypes on Powerhouse (CTF, Assault, Stockpile, Crazy King, 3 Plots)

  • Removed heavy vehicles from all 4v4 Team Objective gametypes

  • October 19th, 2010

  • Removed 1 Flag Classic

  • Removed Headhunter Pro

  • Removed Oddball and Hot Potato from Boardwalk

  • Removed gametypes from Hemorrhage: Multiflag Classic, 1 Flag CTF, 1 Flag Pro, 1 Bomb Assault
Look at all the updates and gametypes in one month after release and this is just the objective playlist. This doesn’t include invasion, slayer gametypes, firefight, doubles, multi team, ect. Halo 5 has been out since Oct. 27th.

While they have similar numbers, most of the Halo 5 modes are just a version of slayer. There’s not really any difference in how you play each mode, whereas Reach had Grifball and Oddball, both of which really changed up the feel of the game.
