Halo 5 Free DLC

Please 343i release the DLC in Halo 5 for free! We loved it in Halo 2 and I would love to see it for free again in Halo 5! This will make sure DLC won’t split the community and it is a great way to support your game and to show love to your fans by releasing free maps.

Releasing free maps will increase the longlivity of the game without forcing people to buy new multiplayer maps. I personally think this would be a great idea.

Let me know your thoughts.

If they did, then Halo 5 would have to be either more expensive or have fewer maps to start with. That’s capitalism, I’m afraid.

I don’t think so.
Plenty of games are already releasing mappacks for free. One example is Killzone Shadow Fall which have released like 3 mappacks to no cost. Anyone can head to the ps-store and download them.

Doing it that way everyone can take part of new content and there won’t be any DLC-playlists that die out in a few days.

That’s not necessarily true. CDPR always releases free DLC for their games. 343 could easily release map packs for free as well. I doubt they actually will, but there’s no reason why they couldn’t.

OP is right though. Free DLC maps would mean that everyone would have them and the DLC maps could be put into all playlists. That way people would actually be able to play on DLC maps, unlike now where you spend $15 or whatever to buy 3 maps, play on them for the short amount of time that they have a DLC playlist, and then never see them again.

The only other solution to that problem I guess would be to do what Halo 3 did and make DLC required for certain playlists and basically force people to buy it.

It would be nice but, sadly, times have changed since Halo 2. I dont think anyone knew how profitable DLC would be back then. Its all about the almighty $ now.

I miss the days when we bought a FULL game, and it was complete, on purchase lol

I think the best option is to either only sell a “season pass” for the game, so that anyone who has the DLC has ALL the DLC, or to only charge for the most recent DLC package. This way, you only have two sets of gamers, one with DLC, and one without, breaking the community into only 2 groups instead of several different combinations of map packs.

I’m all for spending $15 bucks on DLC as long as there is I dunno more than 3 maps in the package. I think that there needs to be one DLC package for $20 that has AT LEAST 8 new maps, AT LEAST 4 new armor sets, AT LEAST 4 new weapon skins(like changing your armor, no loadouts), and AT LEAST 4 new stances. Now that would be a deal and something people would actually spend money. But instead we dish out 10 bucks for 3 new maps. We literally pay over $3 bucks per map that we get to play for two weeks.

Also. They could release two expansion packs. One for 4v4 at 15 bucks and one for 8v8 at 15 bucks. They would just need at least five maps for each.

OP is right, i posted a longer explanation in a similiar topic, but i’m too lazy
to search for it. but things like DLC-required playlists with low population wouldn’t be an issue anymore with free DLC.

No offence but I don’t think Killzone is a AAA game. Yes some people they it is, but how often do you hear people say “Lets go play Killzone!” or someone reference that game… not much if ever. I think there is a reason why it’s free and that’s because there trying to get more people to play there so-so game.

I would love DLC to be free in Halo 5, but think about this from a business point of view people, honesty it’s not going to happen. Halo 3 showed if you have GOOD DLC MP maps and a good method to make sure people get to play it (Making Ranked play DLC required) people will buy it. Since then, BF and COD have really show that people are MORE then willing to pay for MP DLC or season passes or whatever.

Paid MP DLC is here to stay I’m afraid.

Personally I wish the map pack DLC was handled like in Gears of War 3, where you could buy the map pack with several cosmetics and other additions with it, and then a month later the maps would be released for free without the extra stuff. That way the multiplayer community wasn’t fractured with every DLC release, and there was a little extra incentive for paying for the maps.

I think that they should make at least some of the map packs free, but I think a better idea would be that if they were to combine Halo 5 and Halo 6 multiplayer together. If Halo 5 works out and the beta makes the game fun for everyone then instead of releasing several map packs they could just release one 5 map map pack for free and then just hold out until Halo 6 releases and merge the two Halo’s multiplayer. It sounds weird but I think it is something that people would love.

Release free DLC and make it required of matchmaking. Make up the profits in cosmetic customization micro transactions.

This sounds really good!

And if they wouldn’t do this, maybe sell new armor skins and stances. There are a lot of people who love to buy new armor and stances, we saw it with Halo 4. This could be a good way to still earn the extra cash without making paid mappacks. I would love FREE DLC with some microtransactions for different armor and stances.

Maybe releasing six maps in one pack instead of three and having a permanent DLC playlist would help.
