EDIT: After uninstalling the Halo App, Halo 5 Forge works perfectly. Once the app is installed nothing will load.
As of updating to the new October 2018 Windows 10 update I can’t get Halo 5 Forge to launch at all. I’ve reinstalled the Halo and Halo 5 Forge apps from the app store. I’ve tried running forge without the Halo app open and Halo 5 Forge closes and opens up the Halo app. When I launch Halo 5 Forge from the Halo app it will open for a slit second and then crash.
I’m running
i3 8100 - EVGA Z370 Classified - 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz - GTX 970 StrixHalo 5 forge ran perfectly before the update to the latest version of Windows.
Same exact problem here! My system meets minimum specs and the game generally has run well on my older hardware. October 2018 update rolls out without a hitch in my case, although heard others were having problems. Several days go by before I attempt to run H5F, in fact this was the first time I went to use my PC since the update was installed, when I discover the game doesn’t launch. No matter what I do.
After several days of troubleshooting:
Reset App, Uninstalling Halo app alone, Uninstalling both Halo app + H5F then downloading and reinstalling both, rolling back windows to previous version, wiping system and doing fresh clean install with Win10 install .iso downloaded directly from Microsoft, updating geforce drivers, rolling back geforce drivers (went as far back as December 2017) NONE OF THIS HAS WORKED

H5F app has only ever been installed to the system drive and has never been moved to another volume.
I’m currently having the same issue. My forge app crashes after displaying Halo splash screen. I’ve tried uninstalling the Halo app and resetting the Forge app, but neither thing worked. My specs are well above minimum. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have the Halo App installed, uninstall that as it has been discontinued. Once you uninstall Forge should launch without issue
I am having the same issue but I never had the halo app installed. I just got halo 5 forge for the first time today because I had the idea to play it with friends. Any fixes if we never had the halo app?

Was having the same problem. The solutions posted earlier still work in 2021 though, you just need to go to “Add or Remove Programs” and uninstall the thing in there just called “Halo”. Launched fine after that.
343 needs to update Halo 5 Forge to fix the horrid lag issues, and of course, to get rid of the dependency on the defunct Halo app. For now, uninstalling the Halo App will allow the game to run.
I can not find a program called Halo. It does not show up as installed in my directory and I have the option to install it when I visit the microsoft store. Despite this I see the Halo splash for H5F and then the program closes. I do not have the same problem for Halo Wars 2 which launches successfully.

You should double check in Add or Remove programs that there is no app called Halo installed, as the Halo app auto installs with H5 Forge every time, and if its installed then you cannot launch H5 Forge, if you cant find it then you might need to completely uninstall H5 Forge and then reinstall from the Microsoft Store, then of course uninstall the Halo app before trying to launch.
