The latest article stats that even customs run on dedicated servers. Not P2P, so will forge and just casually (by yourself) strolling through an MP level require an internet connection?
OFFICIAL ANSWER
Just got an official answer; YES, forge requires internet connection. As does just going around in a custom game by yourself. Yes! It requires connection.
–EDIT from mobile (so no lazy links)
I’m seeing a lot of people say “This isn’t confirmation”, need I remind you how the removal of split screen was confirmed? Here’s the links.
I worded my question with deliberateness. So that it would be answered. And it WAS answered, in a way that wouldn’t make it seem so bad, but would bring the realization to light and lessen the blow of when it actually was announced.
The same was done with Split-screen. Here are 2 tweets from Josh first conforming Split screen; then his first initial response of confirming it ISNT in the game.
First! Yes! Retail will have SPLITSCREEN MP!!
Then; the confirmation which is worded in a way as to make you unsure; “They use full screen”
> Throughout all of our connected experiences we’ve embraced dedicated servers, which we use to run our Co-op campaign and multiplayer experiences (including custom games).
consider that there is no split-screen or lan support… if you aren’t online you wil be alone, if you are online then the only difference to walking round a map solo is that if someone else joins the server will host the group connection, not you. there should be nothing stopping you from exploring in peace

When they finally announce Forge, youll have your answer. If Forge has some sort of cloud computing being done, then MP maps are always online. If not, offline is probable.
Campaign can be played offline, so its not really an always online game

It will suck horribly if you have to be online to forge. Hell, the only times I forge is when my internet goes out and I don’t feel like playing something else.
Let’s tweet @JoshingtonState to get an official answer. The more people tweeting the question, the better, I’ve already tweeted the question to Josh & Frankie

That’s the big question mark in my mind. They said physics and AI were offloaded to the cloud, meaning that it would have to be online to function properly.
I think I would actually not purchase Halo 5: Guardians, just because of that. Both Titanfall and Destiny are failures because they lack the ability to be played offline. (Although Titanfall can be played over LAN)
Your X1 is always online if you have an internet connection even when you turn off your xbox it is still “on”. The only way to turn it off is to hard shutdown it.
God, it better be playable offline. What are we going to do down the road when the servers go offline? With the older games, I was able to keep on playing Halo 2’s campaign long after the servers were shut down.

Lmao; QFT
But; yeah, I think this was 343’s subtle nudge at an “Always online” Halo game.
343: Claims of cloud computing should be put out before we announce it’s always online only, that will lessen the blow and maybe people will understand why it must be online, if it’s not, we can’t process That the AI will be doing.
TL;DR :: Halo 5 will need cloud computing for us to achieve 60fps & 1080p ← the same reason we “can’t” have split screen.
It is a shame that more time could not be spent developing a way for the engine to run in an alternate state during offline play by reducing frame rate and resolution. With a message that pops up when you start playing that reads something like “Attention: You are playing offline and may experience lower graphic quality.” But the biggest obstacles here were deadlines and the limited power of the Xbox One. We need to accept that this console generation’s capabilities can not meet gamer expectations in many regards. Still a pretty big bummer.
This is what I’ve been saying. We all whine about not having 1080p and 60fps in our console games. So they delivered in (hopefully) the best way they could.
I honestly DO NOT GIVE A RIP if I can’t see that extra hair follicle on Locke’s face, and watch Vale’s hair sway in the wind at glorious 60fps. But 343’s gotta make it “perty” for all the people out there that don’t give a rip about anything else.
Like with Battlefront, I have countless friends who don’t care about any of the gameplay mechanics (good or bad). They just keep saying it looks amazing graphic wise and it drives me nuts.
But whatever, I still can’t wait for this game and I won’t be buying it for its “look”. I’ll buy it because it’s gonna be fun.
