Since Halo 3, Forge had existed as a map-making tool. It wasn’t very powerful at first, and required many exploits to get certain desired effects. But one strength Forge always had was it’s fun sandbox nature and accessibility; Master Cartographers could learn every nook and cranny of the tool, while Average Joes could hop on and toss Kill Balls at their friends. No matter your skill from Halo 3 to H2A, due to the controls based on Halo’s FPS gameplay and standard “video game” logic, pretty much anyone could make SOMETHING.
I believe that was what made Forge different from other map editors. It was designed around the way you already play Halo, so the learning curve was small.
Now we have Halo 5, which is vastly more powerful than ever, but also the least accessible iteration of Forge yet. The controls take time to get used to, and even then the number of items and options is incredibly overwhelming. Then with so much available, we inevitably have many bugs to look out for when building and the chances of a user error are much higher. All of these factors together I’m afraid would scare off many casual Forge users, and it’s more exclusive to the elite few willing to learn every inch of it.
For this, Halo 5 to me doesn’t have Forge, but an actual map editor, and whether that’s a good or bad thing is different from user to user.
That said, there’s already incredible things coming out of H5 Forge, there’s just so much going on that I personally am too overwhelmed to go deep at the moment, but I’m trying.
I don’t get this dumb mentality that is spread like plague.
You guys for the last few years have been screaming and crying at the makers of Halo to make the game more competitive and in depth. 343 finally delivers in every way you guys post everyday about how this game is too hard and competitive. It’s not casual.
I can only imagine the frustration that 343 goes through every day reading this garbage on the forums. They have to be sitting there scratching their hair out, confused as hell, thinking to themselves, "what the hell do these guys want in a Halo game?! "

To be fair, OPs post was a polite opinion. You brought the dumb garbage here.
Halo 5 forge is forge. A much, much better forge.
I got used to the controls and integral additions the first two days it was released.
It really isn’t that hard, people just have this attitude and reason to deny change.
For some people, if it take more than 10 minutes to do something or learn, it’s too hard or too much…it’s pathetic.
H5 forge is plenty accessible. The problem is, people who are used to the old controls are combating muscle memory.
Folks who who are new to forge aren’t having much issue learning H5 forge. It controls very similarly to how any Windows program would. Makes me feel right at home.
i search the Internet a bit and instantly find first time forgers making incredible things.

Haha Simple? you wanna know what was simple for forge. Look at Halo 3. Halo Reach. Halo 4 and halo 2 Anniversary. this forge is the opposite of simple.

But, this forge is much much easier to use. I was always terrible at making stuff in previous forges and im making things so much better and neater in H5 forge thanks to the better controls and ease of use… lol
I was round my friends house yesterday messing around in H3 forge till the early hours of the morning firing elephants across the map and stuff. I can’t really imagine doing that in this forge… even if it did have split screen…
Honestly though, the old fun Halo is dead. It’s all about Hcs now. Whether that’s a good thing or not is for you to decide.

I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that what the OP was trying to say was that it is not as intuitive as it once was. I know the other day I tried to go in real quick myself and check it out but I had troubles enough moving myself and other objects around, much less changing some of the variables. I almost feel like it might be too much of a good thing, allowing for such depth but making it also very counter-intuitive. I made maps in H3 and Reach with ease, but now I question if it will be worth the time and effort to try and learn the controls and then build a map myself.
I’m a long time forger and for years I’ve created things From nothing when halo 5 forge came out I tried to do some simple things but the controls were so out of wack from other halos that I couldn’t do the most simplest things like move a block. in no way am I bashing the new forge all I want is easier controls
I wish Forge had CAD concepts implemented within… like you could sketch and extrude your floor pieces and certain features on the map, and you could easily define and locate features within the play-space. You could get everything EXACT rather quickly.
You could have modifiable primitives that would serve as geometry on the map… certain array, pattern, and mirror commands (this may be asking for a bit much here) but maps could come together SO quick!
I tried forge for the first time last week and found it both overwhelming and incredibly simple to learn. Yes the options are innumerable and at times annoying to scroll through. But it was also fairly easy to get a grasp of and eventually work without double checking the button layouts on the side of the screen. I understand being upset at first about new controls or it being different but it’s just like the new multiplayer controls you learn them and move on with your life. I’m tired of these ‘veteran’ halo players -Yoinking!- about anything new 343 does. Go back to H3 and let it go man. Or you can adapt to it learn and have fun like the rest of us.

> So halo 5 has no forge because it’s a more complex, robust and overall better forge? Much logic, very wow.
No, that’s not what I’m saying. People seem to be misunderstanding me; What I’m saying is that some of the major pillars of Forge IMO were fun and simplicity. Bungie mentioned things like that a bunch during the ViDocs for Halo 3 and Reach.
You hear people say it all the time: “Forge in Halo 5 is finally a true map editor!” So what does that make previous iterations of Forge?
I’m not saying the new Forge is too hard to learn; I’m not saying previous iterations were objectively better in any way; I’m just saying that while there’s more options than ever, there’s also more that players have to watch out for and 343 has to make work.
I’m seriously debating whether I should wait for a patch or something before I really try to do something because of all the randomly-occurring launch bugs (I’d be just unlucky enough to miss one and lose everything). I dunno, there was never that level of uncertainty in any other Forge because they were just simple.
After seeing the maps that have been made already I take back some of my ranting about forge. I haven’t tried it for more than 5 mins and hated it, but letting the experts do their thing really is great.
But I do miss being able to just mess around with friends in forge.
