Halo 5 Forge Ideas and Discussion

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been thinking about the current state of Halo 4 forge mode and I recognize it could use some changes. Not that it isn’t great. I absolutely love it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have problems that can be fixed in Halo 5.

For starters the budget needs to go away. With this new console (Xbox One) I am going to assume it has far more processing power, considering I’m paying 600 dollars on it. It should be able to handle much larger and complex forge maps. I understand it can’t handle insanely huge maps, but it should have much better capabilities that the Xbox 360. In addition if your map is too big and lags, then people just won’t want to play your map, so that’s your fault, and your a bad forger. If you want a different system, I say have a bar towards the bottom of the screen basically showing the lag each map will have when played. No bar means no lag. Small bar means barely noticeable lag. Big bar means 20 frames per second lag.

The next thing is taking out the object limit. That was useless and frustrating even in Halo 4. The budget does what the object limit does except the object limit pisses people off. No object limit is necessary at all in Halo 5.

We also need far more ascetic variety. I’ve seen many youtube videos talk about how they need special items, like tables and chairs and computers, but honestly I disagree. If you want tables and chairs then you have to make them yourself. That’s part of forging building from what you got. I do think we need themed blocks. For instance each basic building block has a theme. There is normal, which is similar to the current system. Maybe old, which would be an old run down block. A rusty block. A snowy block. You name it. I’ll leave the creative stuff up to you 343. This could all be found in the advanced settings.

We also need some kind of modding system. Now I recognize that you most likely don’t have time for this and you have a deadline for Halo 5, but keep it in the back of your mind for future games. Many custom game mods can be downloaded from the file share, which is awesome. But to make your own you need many programs and a fair amount of time and money devoted to making your own mod. I know most player, like myself, have not even scratched the surface of this. A console, in game way to do this would be awesome. I’m not much of a programmer so I really have no idea how you would do this, but I’m sure it’s possible.

Lastly, there needs to be a much greater variety of forge maps, and along with them things like time editing, terrain editing, maybe even a custom terrain maker of sorts. Again I have no idea how to go about doing this, but I think people would really benefit from it. In Halo 4 the basics were covered in Impact and Forge Island. Impact had a space theme, and Forge Island had a ground/water theme. And if you want to count Ravine, which had more hilly terrain. We need something more like Forge World, with valleys and canyons and lakes and river. The list goes on.

Anyway, I’m just ranting here. If you have anymore ideas or want to add on, please comment. Take a vote for what you want to see.

I also have a Halo 4 clan that is recruiting, if anybody is interested. It’s called Aftershock. Just contact me at maxbomb.aftershock@gmail.com.
