Would literally pay somebody to create a video like this just for halo 5 forge haha
What in the world is with the new controls? B and A to move up and down? Selecting an object not being A? These changes alone makes moving objects frustrating! Why couldnt they keep the old controls? It makes zero sense. I understand they added a bunch of new features but why does 343 without FAIL always seem to mess something critical up? They can just never get it right.
Also the textures on the pieces are attrocious. Just jumped into that new canvas glacier… just oh my god.
Why does everything look so bland and cartoony? Might as well just have released this game on the 360 console.
What are your initial thoughts guys? Am I the only one dissapointed?
I was a HUGE fan of forge in reach and even Halo 4 (although 4 had its shortcomings, at least you could lay out a map seamlessly). Now with halo 5 I have to press 4 or 5 buttons just to select a block and move it adding HOURS of extra time onto building a quality map.
The controls were changed because it wasn’t possible to fit all the awesome new stuff onto the old control scheme. The fact that you don’t understand the controls doesn’t make them bad.

You’re right. The fact that the controls are bad makes them bad.
Why cant anyone use Forge, granted it takes a few attempts to get used to each mechanic but it doesn’t take to long.
they explained this in a Sprint episode.
The old controls did not fit with it. It was very hard to navigate the option and a lot of it took to long to do. It was taking a longer time to make maps instead of a shorter time. So they gave it new controls and I have already picked up on the majority of it.
I would say, start messing around with it and set a goal of something you want to make. Soon you will figure out what you can do with it
I initially hated them but got used to the within an hour
Disclaimer: I’ve only used forge for all of bait 20 min just messing around with vehicles and weapons and checking out the new structures.
That being said I couldn’t get a hang of the controls and often had to look to the left side hit the button to see what it did and then recheck to see if it was doing what I thought should happen. Kind of frustrating. Especially the button relationship of LB, RB, A and B. Those were -Yoink!- me off. I do believe however once it gets used i will break the old habits and create new ones.
BUT…
And please correct me if I’m way off base.
If Button “Q” has one single function and button “M” has another single function then why would you change them around from previous games? They can be set to whatever function the developer chooses right?
For example:
If RB selects a bunch of objects together wouldn’t the A button be able to do the exact same function? While keeping RB and LB in charge of vertical movement instead of now having to take your thumbs off the joystick just to navigate around the map?
maybe i just need to watch the sprint episode…

This.
Basic movement buttons should have been kept the same. A and B should NEVER have been made as up and down. Movement is not fluid at all. A should still be select object and up and down should be the bumpers.
I would forge for HOURS upon hours in reach and Halo 4 and was a very very active forger a year or two ago in halo 4. Quality maps, not half -Yoinked!- fun maps made in a day. Was part of the forge community, forgehub etc so I know what I’m talking about.
The controls are not fluid. I’ve played forge in halo 5 for a total of 1 hour, got frustrated as hell and just gave up on it.
very sad, I loved forge.

THIS is how it should be.
I love how whenever 343 boasts to have upgraded something, added a new feature etc, they always manage to screw something else up entirely.
“Here guys have forge, numerous new features which are sure to boost your playing experience BUT we’re gonna go ahead and make it too difficult to use”.
2 steps forward, 1.5 back.

Nice
But, whatever, we may as well just get used to them.
Why not 2 types of controls? Like Old + Extra Menu buttons in the tools option.(that we had for 5 years) And the new version
Personaly i like the old one better.
Give the player the choice for new or old.
You know what I miss about forge? Being able to not look at my controller or some list of controls that tell me how to do something…
The controls were fine before…
I can’t tell what is worse though, the fact the new forge controls are just a giant mess or the fact original controls have been assigned to different buttons. Can we get an original control scheme or the ability to assign the buttons ourselves? Please?
I absolutely love the new Forge controls. I can make huge things so fast now.
“Left bumber? They moved the grenade button to the left BUMBER??? Unacceptable! The left trigger has always been the one to throw grenades, but now the left bumber? That’s it! I am selling this game back to gamestop! What a horrible game! 343i is the worst!!! Multiplayer is unplayable!! Arggh! unintelligible”
Learn. The. Controls. I have, can you? It doesn’t matter if A was select and RB was down etc. If the forge controls were like this from the start, you will be complaining about A being select and RB/RA to move up/down. Who cares if they got changed! Each game is not going to be the same! The control scheme is not 343i’s failure, it is yours!
