Recommend playing Warzone firefight first since it’s sort of easy compared to pvp, helps give you an idea how to play the game since a lot of players online can make the game feel too campy or unbalanced, which can be stressful and I always recommend doing campaign too first, practise playing the difficulty’s to help get better as a player.
If you try warzone don’t be discouraged if you don’t do well, without a lot of reqs it will probably be pretty difficult. When I first started playing I stuck mostly to quick play and a game type called super fiesta, and I would encourage you do the same. Super fiesta is a 5v5 game with random weapons from the entire sandbox, so it will help you learn the game in agruably the most casual playlist
I’d recommend against Warzone actually since it is a very atypical Halo game-mode. It’s a progression-based large-scale kind of thing that is in no way representative of the Halo 5 sandbox that is played competitively.
Instead, I’d play Arena. There are some fun low-stress gamemodes right now like Forerunner Slayer which are fun and great to learn the controls without getting too booty-blasted in Quick Play since you don’t know the meta of the the 3 maps.
For multiplayer I would recommend quick play as its supposed to be for new players to get used to the game. Heroic warzone firefight would be the best warzone option for you. Other modes really require reqs to use. A video explaining the req system. The campaign isn’t to bad either. Gets more hate than it deserves IMO. Sure the story isn’t great and doesn’t go in a popular direction BUT the missions can be fun to play. The missions Blue Team and Swords of Sanghelios are two of the best missions in all of Halo IMO. But Halo over all has a high learning curve so it can be discouraging at first but I think Halo can be more rewarding than other games as you really have to earn those kills with good shooting. Oh and if you decide to stick with H5 for awhile for the grind of unlocking all reqs open bronze packs till you no longer get two unlocks within spending 5000 req points. Then open silver packs exclusively to unlock all of those, they will refund two 1500 point req cards instead of the two permanent unlocks once you can’t get get anything else at that level then open golds. Halo 5 is kinda one giant grind for everything.
For multiplayer, stick to quick play. Teams can only be in parties of 2, in theory preventing a team of 4 from ransacking you, and there are only 3 maps so you will quickly become familiar with them and the gameplay of Halo 5. Once you’re comfortable, you can venture out and do whatever else you like.

I’d have to strongly disagree. The arena maps makes me feel like it’s a CoD game, generally irritates me, I’ve been playing it long enough to know it’s usually best to avoid it due to how stressful the arena usually is plus maps like BTB are too small compared to previous games, top of that the spawn trapping is awful, it end’s up feeling more like a twitch shooter. As for Warzone yeh it can be just as bad in some ways but WZ firefight is usually the best place to try the game for the first time without stressing out over the unbalanced game-types.
I wouldn’t play Firefight unless you want to be in the respawn screen for most of the game since the AI can be overwhelming even on Heroic. If you want to learn the basics, start up a custom game until you’re comfortable with the controls and then you can try your luck in Arena or Warzone. I doubt any playlist is gonna feel casual at first so prepare for that since the game isn’t gonna know your skill level, but it should figure that out shortly and you’ll likely start getting games where the competition is on a lower skill level. I don’t know what you like to play, but I’d just say to try a variety of the social and ranked playlists and see what you like.
I agree with playing Warzone Firefight to start. The matches are easy to win and they give you valuable experience playing with different weapons. Plus, you’ll be playing alongside veteran players from whom you can learn.
PvP matchmaking can be pretty competitive, even in the social playlists. I’ve been playing Halo since the original Xbox days and sometimes I still get my clock cleaned in social play. I wouldn’t want someone new to Halo to get thrown to the wolves in PvP and then get discouraged and quit if they have some bad matches. Heck, I still spend about 50% of my time in multiplayer playing Warzone Firefight simply because I can relax a bit more (as well as use some of the more interesting weapons and vehicles) when I’m playing. I really only jump into PvP when I’m feeling competitive.
Of course, if you’re more interested in single player, the campaign is good, too. I know that’s not a popular opinion in these forums, but I liked it and I think most new players will, too.
Quick Play is probably best for you. It provides you with a familiar map (Truth), and two new maps (Coliseum and Plaza). If you haven’t played Halo 2 or 3 before, Truth may be new. Coliseum and Truth are symmetrical maps with an obvious point of interest. Plaza is asymmetrical and provides a good practice ground for some of the options available in the game, with the addition of a high movement skill ceiling and low skill floor.
As for some general recommendations from myself, I’d say getting away from the default layout is pretty much the biggest game changer. I would also say disabling “maintain sprint” and “toggle crouch” would be nice if you want to get a bit further into the movement side of the game. Toggle crouch being off will help a lot with srafing.
At the end of the day it’s up to you. I remember that my first day I jumped into campaign to start speedrunning the game over anything else. So my introduction to this game was completely guided by techniques like the superslide, thrust-slide, and spawn memory. This, didn’t help as much as it would seem in multiplayer. If you find quick play too sweaty, keep playing and you’ll notice opponents starting to get closer to you in stat lines. If you’ve got someone to show you the ropes, that’s even better.

Play Warzone man. i feel for new players it’s great nonstop action. Then social followed by the big league RANKED!.
A lot of good (and perhaps conflicting) information is given here by fellow posters.
To perhaps give you a better chance to evaluate your options, you might want to share your typical gaming preferences - i.e. actual games you play (CoD?), multiplayer vs campaign, competitive, etc.
The good thing about Halo is that it has a diverse set of games to choose from. It’s just a matter of finding what aligns best with the styles you prefer.
Play lots of social playlist and if your planning on playing rank i recommend you play lots of quick play. If your really into lore then you should play the campaign but if not then its a waste of time. Rank is super competitive and full of smurfs. If your competitive then go for it. Also war zone is really fun you don’t need overpowered reqs to do well. Also since your a low level DONT go for GOLD REQS, go for SILVER. gold req packs at low level is a waste of points they give you the same stuff as silver, u have a super low chance of getting high reqs in golds until your level 120+. Also never get bronze packs unless your a completionist and want to get all the mongoose certifications.
I would suggest quick play or the Warzone Fire Fight on Heroic that is just me but I am mostly picking this game back up have not played it in quite some time.
