HALO 5: FIRST ONE X 4K CAMPAIGN VIDEOS OUT NOW!

YAY! At last! We get to see some 4K Halo 5 Campaign! So, if you’ve pre-ordered a One X, or are considering getting one at some point, here’s a taste of Halo 5 Campaign and even some Halo 3 in 4K, so you can finally see for yourself on your own TV what it looks like. At the end, I’ll put a note and a chart about resolutions, TV size and distance you’re viewing it from, as to how high you need to go to get a picture where you “can’t see the pixels” - this together with these videos might help people who aren’t sure if they’d benefit from a getting a One X or not to know if it’s worth the money.

Incidentally, according to Arrekz Gaming, the XBox One X 4K Halo 5 Update was 15GB.

You really need to stream these videos in 2160p/60fps to a 4K Display to get the full effect - I’ve literally watched it from 2 feet from my 24" Monitor 4K (equal to about a 55" TV viewed from 1.8 metres), and I have to say it does look pretty cool! However, if you’re on a lower res monitor or TV, then watch it above 720p in an inset box in the browser, or at least at 1080p on a TV, and sit as far back from the screen as needed to get the “sight” or “feel” of these three features:

  • The improvements in the sharpness of edge lines and textures on surfaces (rocks, plants, armour, skin), but more, it has that sense of the “air” or “space” in the picture looking “clearer”, so there’s somehow more “depth” going into the scene.

  • a greater sense of the 3D-ness of objects as you move round them.

  • all with a sense of that seriously “floaty-smooth” 60fps gameplay.

Enjoy!

GAMERIOT

GameRiot say XBox UK sent them an XBox One X, and here’s the first mission “Osiris” on Kamchatka up to the opening cutscene of Blue Team as they arrive at the Argent Moon, from Halo 5 4K Update for One X.

**AREKKZ GAMING**

From Arekkz Gaming, more scenes from Halo 5, including Blue Team also on Genesis, as well as some Halo 3 Campaign gameplay on the One X. In each case, he also provides a comparison between the One X 4K pic with the 1080p version from a One S. This might also help people watching this on a 1080p TV/monitor or below to be able to guage the relative differences between the same pictures, whereas it’s immediately obvious at actual 4K.

**SKE7CH'S POST ABOUT UPDATES**

Ske7ch had put this post up about the updates going live, but there had been a couple of “teething problems” publishing them - but it does seem people are actually getting the updates now, so it is finally all working. If you’re getting a One X, it’s already all there waiting for you!

A NOTE ON TV RESOLUTION

What resolution you’ll most benefit from depends on your TV Size and the Distance you’ll be viewing it from and gaming on it at. This chart shows what resolutions are needed so that people with normal 20-20 vision can’t see pixels on the physical screen or in the content. Obviously, if you have a 40" 1080p TV and view it from 2 metres, 1080p is plenty, so a One X for 4K isn’t really needed unless you move up to a 50"+ TV. If you’re a borderline case between 1080p/4K resolution and on a budget, a One S might be enough to upscale those pictures to an acceptable level.

Watching it, and it’ really weird because I can’ tell if it loos better from higher resolution and texture streaming, or if the color looking better. I seriously can’t tell why, but I notice a good difference between them. Things looks sharper, not soft at all(softness in games bothers me for some reason)

Everything just pops better in a good way. Planned on playing halo 5 again from start to finish on easy upon x launch, now even more excited for it!
