Started playing some ffa today and it’s no longer ranking me up. I placed in the top 3 each game and it keeps giving me the red down arrow next to my rank after each game. Does anybody know what’s going on?
read the matchmaking feedback from josh. some changes were made since its easy to rank up in FFA. i also noticed that change so your not alone.
I read through all the comments. I understand what is trying to be accomplished, but I’m still not clear about the FFA part of it. I placed higher than an onyx and am a diamond 4 currently yet my CSR had the red down arrow. If it is supposed to change CSR based on the CSR of who you beat then why did mine still go down?
Looks like the only common thing in the games that you’ve lost CSR is that the player that won has been a lower rank than you. So you (and everyone else who was ranked higher than the winner) are being punished with a loss of CSR for losing a game you, theoretically, should have been able to win. So if you lost some CSR that game you placed higher than the Onyx, the Onyx lost more CSR than you did.
Edit:
Scratch my assumption. Here’s the reason. So in other words, more emphasis is placed on getting first.

Not liking the sound of it at all honestly

Yeah I don’t think this makes much sense for an FFA match. Not everyone can place first in one match and i for sure beat players that were higher CSR than myself but placed second and my CSR went down.

The only thing that I can gather is that losing to an in ranked player really affects my CSR now even if they were higher ranked than me last season. Why would an unranked player affect my rank?
Well, if you don’t win, your rank is almost always going to be affected, no matter the ranks of other players, with very few exceptions. In any case, there was a change implemented to FFA ranking recently. There will be more info about it coming soon.

I’m guessing that you haven’t been paying much attention to ffa rankings previously to this “change” the only way your rank would decrease was if you placed last. 5th place would usually lead to no change and the same for fourth.

I’m well aware of that. It’s been discussed that ranking up so long as you don’t place last in FFA is not how it was supposed to be. The change that was implemented is fixing that.

And I’m disagreeing with that. I don’t agree with only ranking up if you place first in ffa. That wouldn’t make sense either. It’s not one team vs another where you would be impacting the ranks of one side and the other side equally. You have 6 separate “teams” in ffa so to de-rank 5 out of the 6 is not correct either.
About time FFA was changed. Have all these “high” Onyx or champion players running around who are clearly not at the skill level.
The best part is playing Team Slayer and having someone tell you you suck and then they say “look at my highest rank bro!! Champ” then you look and see it’s in FFA and laugh!! Everyone knows FFA is a don’t get last and you go up scenario which is ridiculous!
FFA ranks became more of a “participate” per say and rank up playlist and that isn’t right. I look forward to seeing these changes.

I agree that it all needed some change but when I place second and my rank goes down? That isn’t right either. That means that I beat 4 of the other 5 and even if they were a higher CSR than me I still went down. That is not right either. I’ve been getting a bunch of bogus and mysterious answers as to how it is supposed to work. People say they don’t want to expose the way it works so that people don’t exploit the system. Well I’m sorry but it’s a video game with a ranking system. It’s never going to be perfect. I didn’t think it was that easy to get champ in ffa. It’s actually a grind. I have onyx in slayer, swat, and ffa. They are all somewhat of a challenge but they aren’t supposed to be equal difficulty. One is team based and one is not at all. If you don’t like ffa then don’t play it. The only issue that had to be worked on was “smurfing” to help your buddy rank up his high CSR.
Just placed 1st in an ffa. Gained a smidge of CSR. Such a small sliver you can barely see it.

Yeah Im having the same issue! Every time I win a game my CSR bar barely moves up and when I come in second or below (Even when I place above a champion) I lose almost half a bar of CSR.
Going to close this off in favor of the matchmaking feedback thread, Josh has posted about changes to CSR, specifically for FFA, in the first post. Feel free to ask any questions there.
