Hey guys, once again the previous feedback thread was getting way too long so to keep things clean, move to this thread and share your final thoughts on the Halo 5 Beta.

Fill this thread out to your hearts content and let everything out. Feel free to write an essay if you have to because the Beta is basically over and now is the time to feed the feedback to everyone that’s hungry for it.

This beta has been the most fun I’ve had playing a videogame since Halo 3. It has amazing potential for both competitive play and casual replayability. I love what I’ve seen so far. My concerns:

The auto aim while toggling in and out of smart scope has to go. I see way too many bad players in onyx and semi pro because they are abusing it. All they do is toggle in and out of smart scope and they are instantly aiming at me.

Orion is a garbage map. Should not be in the final game in any way.

The skill based matchmaking needs to be improved. Onyx should be only paired with onyx. Bronze with bronze. Etc.

The Ar needs a slight nerf. Nothing extreme but a slight nerf would be nice.

Strongholds is not fun. It’s a massive camp fest.

Matchmaking needs to run literally perfect with absolutely ZERO issues day one. With all playlists ready to go. None of this “more playlists and ranks coming soon” -Yoink-. Team snipers and team doubles should be permanent ranked playlists.

Ranked and unranked/social playlists are a must. With plenty of fun and obscure gametypes to keep people entertained.

Proximity chat needs to be included in the social playlists. It’s so much fun hearing people while you kill them. And it promotes people communicating.

Let me introduce myself first:
32 Years old
playing Halo since Halo CE Release on Xbox 1 over 10 years ago.

Loved Halo CE
Loved Halo 2 more
Loved Halo 3
Dont like Reach
Thought Halo 4 is a better attempt, but they ruined it through Gameplaymechanics and Playlist decisions

tl;dr: HCE > H2 > H3 >>> H4 >>>>>>>>>> HR

Halo 2 Level 32 after I got XBL, but it was the time of cheaters online, very hard to win unless you use host tools or cheat. I hate both!
Halo 3 Level 44, stuck there and didnt like the idea of having 2nd, 3rd etc accounts.
Halo Reach and Halo 4… sorry… Ranks in Reach and Halo 4 were just stupid!)

So you might guess which direction I prefer.
Ok lets start, I talk about my thoughts on the Halo 5 Beta and give solutions how to make things better or different.
I stopped after the first 10 matches, then coninued as BR starts hit the place. Playtime more than a day.
Onyx I, close to Onyx II.

::: GAMEPLAY :::
Feels different, worked out well somehow, here are my points…

  1. Things they wont remove because they had to rebuild all the maps in fact of size / general measurements…

SPRINT - change it!
How: Make sprint available only for full shield. Its still too often a “get out of jail” option.
Why they wont remove sprint: Like written above, redo all maps, make em smaller etc.

CLAMBER - cant be changed, works the way they have implemented it.
BUT… read under point 3 about Ground Pound why I prefer Duck Jump

THRUSTER PACK - change it!
How: more cooldown time and/or change the distance it boosts you.
First makes the people not using it too often. Second reduces the “there is a grenade, lets escape it!” Situation I guess.
My main problem with thruster pack is, classic grenade usage is heavily reduced in various situations. A well thrown nade in the old halos
has shown who is a better player. And dont forget, Halo 5 will be about competitive gaming, right?
Why they wont remove thruster pack: Would kill the fast paced movement on the maps, and thats what they are aiming for, a fast halo.

  1. Things that are useless and can be removed

SLIDE - what is it good for? Absoluteley NOTHING!
Why? Nobody needs it. In fact of shotgunners could get more easy kills, that would be also a gameplay breaking mechanism
when they slide into you with their shotguns. -_-

“THRUSTER MELEE” - … what?
Why? Its the situation where you killed a guy, he sprints back to you and tackles you. When you are not at full shields, he gets an easy kill.
Not competetive for me.

HOVER - standing still while scoping during a jump?
Ok, can be turned on and off, so I dont care.

GROUND POUND - hmmmm… not usefull for me
Why? Why should I give up my good position on a map, example top area of pegasus or any other map?
As we know, positions are important in halo. Why should I drop down where enemies can kill me easily because they are above me?
And you cant ground pound out of a regular jump, you need to be a bit higher than the ground you are standing on.
SOLUTION: in case they want some kind of last chance action, bring back BXR like button combo.

KILL CAM… useless! I prefer to see my friends playing while waiting for respawn instead of spamming the X button!
Solution here would be the option to turn kill cams on and off, who wants it can keep it.

TEAMTALK… hmmm ok… some of you may know that the majority of players goes into team slayer alone. WITHOUT a mic. So the Teamtalk thing makes them more aware of things that happen in a match. Ok, can be turned on and off would be a solution.

WEAPON SPAWN TIMERS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS… like above, makes it easier for people to talk. Reduces the skill gap in my opinion. Oh wait,… competetive? Wasnt there something? Im fine with it. If you dont change it guys, ok.

  1. A thing that prevent Halo 5 from good movement

GROUND POUND
Why? Im on Lightrifle Area on Pegasus. Shooting the guys coming from oppisite side towards rockets.
I use the cube in the lower front as cover. When they push, I go backwards and jump up to… what???
I cant Duck Jump yes. Because on my layout duck is left stick, that would have been duck on previous halos,
I do ground pound! I cant move backwards and jump up to that ledge as I cant duck jump.

I can turn around, stop shooting and clamber up the ledge, but Im not able to fight back against the pushing enemy
and he gets encouraged to push while Im “running away”.

A good player is able to move through the map backwards! Competetive, you get it?
Solution: Give us the option to enable duck jump to walk and duckjump backwards on the maps.
Good alternative would be a BXR like button combo instead of Ground Pound.
Keep clamber, ok, but give us duck jump.
Would be also an advantage for good players versus players who only use clamber. Competitive… thats what you want right?

::: WEAPONS :::

BR - feels good, Im ok with it.
AR - too much damage, too precise, I killed enemies on mid range and also on long range!
Magnum - feels ok, but sometimes its more like trigger spam than landing direct shots. Feels a little bit random this way.
DMR - I have a BR, but ok for people who prefer the DMR
Sniper - feels easy, easy no scopes and headshots. Would say its the Halo 4 Sniper
Rocket - delayed shot, blast radius changed also, prefer the old rockets a little, but I understand that they want it more “competetive” lol
Hydra - WTF? Auto Lock On? Hmm… if you keep that, less Ammunition please!!!
Prohpets Bane - a Sword makes you run faster, on an open map like truth it makes a little sense,… hmmm better no faster movement.
Energy Sword - another sword… k…
MP - like AR, too powerful, wrong ranges also
Lightrifle - Ok, three shots make it very powerful, I used it more as a supporter weapon while friends took the headshots.

I think these were all the weapons… ok…

::: MAPS :::

The Forge Maps felt a lot better to play in fact of less effects and lightning! Orion has too much sun on the opposite tower of Hydra spawn in my opinion!
The original maps (Truth, Regret, Empire & Eden) have too much lightning effects and are too dark in various spots on the map, which makes it hard for some people to see an enemy. Also the scructures on the maps are a little bit too much, too many ways to enter a certain spot, sorry for that comparison, but its somehow like some CoD maps were made.

Original Maps:

Empire: …is one of the worst maps as the overview sucks badly! My opinion!
Truth: … is a nice remake, plays different than Empire. Worst places on that map are the walls next to the lift tower, too much camping here sometimes. Not to mention when there is only AR/Magnum starts!
Regret: Not my type of map, sorry.
Eden: Empire but with a bridge, played better because it was a little more open range.

Forge Maps:
In general for the beta I prefer these as they are more simple in fact of looks and effects!

Pegasus: loved it, simple optics, nice to play. Power weapons are fun to obtain here.
Orion: first disliked, then liked it. Tower opposite side of hydra has too much cover in my opinion. And the sun is too bright.
Blue House on Hydra spawn is too campy. Windows should be destroyable like the orange shields on truth!

::: RANKING SYSTEM :::

I got ranked Gold 2 after 10 matches. Some friends complained they were ranked iron bronze after their first 10 matches, even if they won 8 out of 10 matches.
Dont know. But sometimes its not that clear how it really works. And matchmaking itself gives semi pro or pro enemies to gold players. That range should be reduced slightly. We destroyed a team of irons and bronze enemies. We got no xp, they would have gained a lot if they would have won.

::: NETCODE :::

Im not sure where these servers are, I guess North America, Im in Germany. We had lag on some matches. Went on to unplayable in a few rare matches. But mostly a little lag (that costed us a few kills to win!) to nothing we noticed.

::: SPECTATOR MODE :::

Buggy, hangs up sometimes and you need to skip forward that it finds back on the track. Also a delay, sometimes more (a few minutes) or less (a minute).

::: OVERALL :::

I didnt liked Halo 5 when playing first time with AR/Magnum starts. People dont risk a lot, dash and sprint away. Sitting in corners and wait to “AR” you.
With BR starts it felt a lot better. I would prefer no sprint and no thruster, but Im sure you guys wont remove it. So the way is ok when you change this and that what I mentioned above and what others mentioned already in hundred other posts here.

IMPORTANT: Yesterday we got AR starts again. I dont play the Beta anymore. I was happy to do, but AR Starts ruin Halo 5 for sure.
Now all the AR fans will complain, feel happy to do so. THERE IS NO REASON TO COMPLAIN because BR Starts had AR as primary weapon, so you even dont need to change your weapon when you spawn like we BR players do!

434INDUSTRIES!!! Dont make the same mistake and split the community again like in Halo 4 with pro stuff and casual Infinity playlists! Keep us all together! Nerf the AR, put it together with BR and gunplay is fine!

this is my feedback

Just going to copy my old post since my opinions are still the same.

From my experience with the beta so far (praises and criticisms)

Pros:

  1. The movement is very fluid and consistent. Very smooth
  2. Sprint is balanced out by being tied to shields plus there being a delay before you can shoot your gun again.
  3. A good team will dominate if they gain map control, similar to the old Halo style of H2/3. It plays like older halos with sprint added into it for faster pace. Thruster seems to only be good when you need to get around a corner, hardly ever outsmarts an opponent.
  4. Hit detection is good. I feel like all my shots hit, everytime.
  5. The game types are really good. Breakout feels new and fresh (and fun). Stronghold is Halo’s version of domination, which works (the beta version does need a higher score total, 100 points is too low and matches end very fast).
  6. The gun sounds are pretty good and design of most guns are good.

Cons:

  1. Spawn system is horrible a lot of the times. I’ve been spawn killed more times that I should have been.
  2. The TTK is too short. The reasoning is not because the shields are weaker but the guns are way too strong. The rate of fire and power of the guns need to be nerfed hard, especially BR.
  3. Grenades are confused. They are pretty much OP I’m most cases.
  4. Killcams need to go, need I say more?
  5. Shields regenerate too fast. You are only one shot for maybe a second and a half.
  6. The character callouts/feed callouts are not necessary and add to the urge to lone wolf instead of communicating with your team.
  7. The colors of the maps are all out of whack. Too dark and blend in with team colors too often.
  8. (Small gripe) the character animations before and after matches aren’t needed. It makes sense to the whole “multiplayer is a battle simulator” thing 343 is going for but it’s not needed.

HALO 5

  1. I think It would be great If you gave the halo 5 players the chance of being able to select a traditional halo scope in feature as appose to

aiming down the sight as is done in most popular shooters. Allowing cod , battlefield and other shooter fans to choose how they would like to scope

in /aim down the sight.

  1. Also even though this is not a huge problem but can become big is allowing the player to map the controllers buttons any way they

like Including just like other shooters this will give fans from other games the comfort ability of familiarity.

  1. Another good thing would be being able to play the same stages in different times of the day which it seems you have already done but with all

the stages whether or not there are changes to structure or weather.( awesome because I spoke with a friend about this and you already kinda

did this in the Halo 5 beta.

  1. Also I like having the ability to crouch jump so making it possible to hold the crouch jump buttons without automatically activating the ground
    pound.

  2. I do like the stages in halo 5 but the stages need to feel IMPORTANT and still be conducive for competitive and intense fun game play. So

stages that feel like they have a meaning but still look great. Also huge maps (possibly later on) not quite as big as battle field but maps having

many different structures buildings and places you can be except without heavy vehicles or some of these maps with none at all so that players

can have a large team but fight as a foot soldiers. Multiple teams of four. Extra ideas : > With places where you have to protect or upload a

ordinance drops while at another location on the map players are doing the same.

  1. I think Over shield orbs and Kamo orbs can spawn like twice a game on different times than weapons so that they aren’t abused to much

unless they spawn at the same time away from weapons to prevent crazily monopolizing. Or make the kamoflage very effective at times and then

at other points more vi sable to prevent it from being to sup ream. ( possibly better for Big team battle type playlist which I talked about in #5 since

4 v 4 competitive players are very strict with the sandbox arena blue print.

  1. Almost forgot hopefully 343 will eventually add a firefight to Halo 5 that will allow Spartans to fight old enemy’s like the covenant the flood and

etc , and have stages that change and evolve or cause the game play to move to different locations on map because an enemy is trying to take

attack a base or transport a scientist or VIP person and the Spartans protect it momentarily for extra point(or equipment jet pack , 60 second

Kamo recharge after a number of waves or kills or time limit or both.) even if the game type is just to survive in till lives are out.

Well I could probably come up with more Ideas since some of these where partly ideas with a healthy dose of improvising . Well great start 343

I forgot but I agree with one of the guys that posted. There should be some incentive or reward for using mikes and respectfully communicating on online multiplier. Mic communication extra experience . Search options for players who generally plug in a mike.

  1. Change the CSR system, make it more than halo 3 or 2, I don’t want to lose point because of a stupid team.
  2. When a weapon is on the floor, put the weapon icon under the message "press RB to pick up the [WEAPON NAME]
  3. can you make the AR little (really little) less powerful ?
  4. Change the regret weapon. There is too much walls to use the Hydra
  5. The spartan charge is annoying, we can’t make a simple punch when we are sprinting. I think spartan charge must be on Punch+Thruster pack

I like most things BUT the Time to kill is way too quick.

I also can’t help but think they should make a classic playlist.

The deathcam music is really annoying.

Take out spartan charge, I cant tell you how many times i was about to assassinate someone and I accidentally charged them.

I do really think there should be a classic playlist, that’s my number 1 recommendation to 343.
Before launch I’d also like to see how btb works.

Does anyone else feel like melee is weaker on damaged enemies than it was previously? I’m pretty sure it still takes just two kill, but in a close up fight it feels like my opponent or I end up hitting each other many times before either of us die.

Do you think 343i will do a Halo 5 beta for Halo 5s forge?

I love the beta and I’m not happy that it is over. In fact I kinda want 343 to have another beta very soon.

The improvements I would like to see are grenade indicators because I get confused on the sound the grenade makes when it falls near your location. It sounds like it is close by when it isn’t and it sounds like it is far away when in fact you just died from it.

I would like the grenades to also be tuned down just a notch so I’m not fighting for cover 24/7.

The AR also needs to be tuned down just a little bit to keep it from destroying everything from close to mid range when a gun such as the BR or DMR gets murdered.

No BR starts.

Besides this I would say this beta was phenomenal and I greatly appreciated it compared to the MCC release.

I love the sounds of the guns and when you kill someone, it immerses you into the game.

The sound/music is great and has some high points to it but I really… really hope you get Marty O’Donnell back so he can mix music with the other music guy. Halo 4 was missing a lot of the Haloness at the right time that all the other Halos had that made me feel good/god like/sad/bad.

343i need to fix something i encountered on the beta i was playing a game and i took this guys shield down the BR and then he shot with his AR and took out about 25% of my shield i melee him and he dies as well as me wen his shields were down and mine were not doesn’t make sense

I have spent some of the best bits of my life playing the beta, it was great to play and fun. Competitive and team based, (though I got no help) it was a great game to play. Exelelant arena based combat in chess like duels sometimes where the one bullet miss and miss timed boost jump can either cost you or give a score. (And to thoughs who only look at the bad things guess what, the earliest game in which this kind of combat took place was not Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, it was Titanfall and even before then can you look at Planet Side 2. Very similar combat like system on.) I hope my reports on faults descovered during my gameplay will help. A major one is fixing the server in my case. And sorting out the armour after a match needs to. I intend to buy Halo 5, if I could have anything to my Spartan, it would be something saying I was a beta tester. I like also to have that Recruit Armour with the ad-one scribe’s. That’s what I want if I could have anything. Childish I know but I want a piece of the beta with me when I start, and I hope to find people that I can play with to.
Once you’ve played a Halo game, you are on the first steps to becoming a Spartan. Its not how high your score is, it’s about being there. 343 started a story, a legacy. Where it ends, will be unknown until it is duty.d. 343, This is Spartan 473H, reporting for duty. Awaiting the next chapter.

I really enjoyed this beta. Can’t wait to see features like big team and SWAT, and how they will be in the final release. sigh… Gonna be a loooong 11 months without this game.

My biggest gripe would have to be the bullet magnetism/aim assist/hit boxes.

Never have I seen such a backlash to BR games until now and I think it comes down to the fact that it’s too easy to use compared to other Halos. Strafing and jumping mean almost nothing in this game and its ease means using it at range promotes campy gameplay (loads of matches have gone to time limit). Another thing I noticed is that I can’t really go into battles against multiple people thinking I’ll come out on top anymore because I feel aiming isn’t as important now so I just stand no chance.

I’ve noticed this too with the sniper as headshots with it are pretty easy now.

Something about the aiming just feels off to me, it seems to award noobs too much. Idk

Great game, posted a thread of my thoughts around the beginning of the beta. Quite a bit has changed, anyway here are my final thoughts…

Best Halo ever, keep up the good work, just please and I can’t begin to tell you how crucial is what i’m gonna say next. “DON’T FORGET SYSTEM LINK”, you didn’t include it in the master chief collection and that’s fine, but not including it in Halo 5 is a huge mistake. This game was born for tournament play and gaming lounges, also by including this feature gamers in countries with crappy connections can setup their own LANs and have a blast with this game. System link is what makes a game truly global. Games like COD and HALO are what they are because they consistently offer alternatives to gamers with laggy connections, and believe me when I tell you there are more of those than you think, we are still a very long way from everyone having a perfect connection and even when they do you’ll probably still have some lag.

So please don’t forget system link and surprise us and release it sooner, there’s not much else to play till then :slight_smile:
