Halo 5 Feedback - Down But Not Out

Hi, this is my first post though I have visited Waypoint before.

Let me preface this by saying I am a day one xbox original owner and Halo CE changed gaming forever for me. While I really enjoyed Halo 5’s MP I felt the campaign did not live up to what came before. There are many things I could talk about but if 343 could action just one thing it would be this, and it is one I simply cannot believe passed QA for Halo 5, and that is the Down But Not Out system, especially with ai controlled squad mates in co-op single player.

To put it simply:

  • This is not fun. It is not fun to watch your AI team mates struggle to make it across the map while you bleed out to only stand by you and let you die. What was the point? - The number of times where I went down and the poor AI walked around aimlessly while I frustratingly shouted at them to do something while tapping the button prompt is countless. - If I’m dying more often than being revived then what’s the point of the system? Why not just let me die instantly! - Even in Co-op I found the system to be troublesome in anything less than a 4 person co-op session. I played the game with my friend, we have done all the Halo’s in Co-op over the years, and we both faced the same problem. - Even when the AI makes it to you, more often than not it would fail to revive you or worse they would also be downed and then you all die anyway. Again, what was the point? - It is frustrating and in a way that I have never been with a Halo campaign before. I didn’t mind the library on Legendary in CE because I knew the onus was on me. Having to rely on AI is not a pleasant experience and it makes the campaign an unpleasant experience. I would say right now it stops me from going back and replaying any part of Halo 5’s campaign. How it was(felt) before Halo 5:

  • Before in Halo co-op when you died you got to experience what your co-op partner was battling, giving an almost in the trenches camaraderie experience. DBNO leaves you isolated and builds resentment towards your fellow co-op players or the AI because you are not seeing through their eyes what they are facing.I appreciate the risks 343 take to try and evolve Halo, but DBNO is NOT something I would want to see in another Halo campaign. Please remove it.
