So, after playing the game for a while, I just wanted to give my 2 cents on why I don’t think the game had any huge success. But first, let me just say I think this game is still very good because of the gameplay. I enjoy all the features they have/added. However, it is the features they left out that causes Halo 5 to fail: It has very little social aspects to it.
-
THE LOBBY: So I understand that in ranked matches, not seeing who is in the prematch lobby could be good, but this takes away from a social feel. Now, we can’t see who we are up against. We can’t look at their armor while waiting. We can’t look at their file share or anything. They should at least implement a more social lobby for social playlists. The easy and obvious way to do this is replace the “fireteam” area with the list of players in the lobby.
-
FILE SHARING: Oh yay, they added file share to Halo 5! Oh wait, you can only share map variants and game variants (I think). I really don’t understand why Halo 3 was the last game with an actually good file share. You could easily click on a player, go to their file share, and look at a plethora of content, ranging from screenshots to clips, to games and more. If they truly wished to bring this community back, this is by far the most important aspect they need to improve on. Creating an ease of access to player’s content that can also be shared by players easily is vital for a good and social community. Remember Bungie Favorites? Why doesn’t 343 do anything like that at all?
-
CUSTOM GAMES: This one is pretty self explanatory. The lack of options for custom games is pretty frustrating. Why the hell does that need to be in an update? They definitely chose to remove these for a future release, when it could have SO EASILY been in from launch. I get it if you want to wait on forge to an extent, but something as simple as removing widely popular gametypes?
I seriously don’t understand 343’s thought process. Do they not understand the true potential of their game if they catered to both a ranked and a social audience?
