Halo 5 Enemy Types

Prometheans were not very fun to fight in Halo 4 IMO.

Hopefully with the addition of the Soldier we can see a rebalance of their faction.

I’d personally have Soldiers show up about as often as Jackals and Elites, there should never be more than two Suppressor Crawlers in a swarm, Knights should be pulled back to Hunter-style “mini boss” encounters (never more than 3-4, and can lead a squad of soldiers into battle), and no random one-shot enemies who hang back until the fight is over just so you have to start from the beginning again.

I just can’t wait to see new promethean vehicles and hopefully it is not just the phaeton

I hope not. They also have their own turret, the Splinter, so I’m guessing they’ll at least get one teamwork vehicle. I’d be content with a Forerunner Tank.

Yeah I found them very boring in H4.

Soldiers seem much better now that you can open up their chest cavities for a finishing blow (a much needed visual feedback mechanic as opposed to the bullet sponge knights).

I don’t mind the crawler swarm but their headshot hitbox is ridiculous and so are their animations. (hitting the head felt off in H4 especially because they would randomly duck their head every now and then). When they go side to side and when they leap they look ridiculous, a proper strafing animation would really help if they prowled back and forth while firing (and if they had a turret on their back, like that panther Decepticon Transformer from Transformers 3). Part of what makes them so ridiculous an enemy is that their weak spot is their head, but they’re almost always facing you or coming directly at you meaning if you shoot them it’s going to be in the head anyway. If you’re going to have quadraped tier 1 enemies they need to take advantage of it and look the part, fast flankers and strafers would be an interesting role for them in my opinion. I think part of this is their flinch mechanic which just makes it look like they -Yoink!- out when you get bodyshots (this happens to the soldiers too from what I’ve seen). I’d prefer a shield or better yet your bullets disintegrating part of them as you fire. That instant visual weapon impact is part of what makes shooting so satisfying in halo (weapon fire has an immediate impact upon elite shields which flash, jackal shields which deflect, grunt heads which oh so satisfying pop, etc). and I don’t think a simple flinch makes up for it on the crawlers, soldiers and knights. At least they changed it so that the AR can headshot the crawlers now (from what I’ve seen).
