This is meant as a thread for 343 to look at and consider but I’d also love to hear what the rest of you think on these suggestions. I’d also like to hear any of your feedback/suggestions on this subject as well!
I also have other topics on the rest of the enemies but altogether it was too big so I’ve separated them into their own topics to keep in line with the letter limit.
I know the team is plagued by time/game restraints but if most of these features could be added upon each other over time then that would be amazing! (because I gotta face that not all of these are gonna be added all at once in one game)
Drones
Drones should definitely come back. The Forerunners have flying enemies so why don’t the covenant?!
Brutes
Another enemy that should make a return. At the very least there should be two different Brute classes.
-
Armored Brutes
The brutes from Halo 3 were a very nicely balanced enemy and should definitely make a return. Seeing how 343 has done with the armor mechanic on recent Promethean enemies I think these Brute troops would do well with a 343 touch as an armored enemy much like the Promethean soldiers. -
Brute Chieftains
The Brute Hammer wielding Chieftain is another enemy that should make a return as well! It should similarly have an armor mechanic but also a special ability to give it some invincibility like it did in Halo 3. Or something of that nature.
Its hammer should also have a powerful gravity push affect equal or greater to that of its Halo 3 counterpart. -
Rookie Class
The last kind of Brute enemy I’d like to see would be a mixture of the Brutes from Halo 2 and Reach. Not as high ranking as other Brutes but powerful nonetheless as they would be more prone to fits of rage then their more armored brethren.
- Jump Jet Brutes
The Jump Pack Brutes from Halo 3/HW2 could also make a return to the campaign as they were unique and fun to fight against. You could even on rare occasions see one holding a gravity hammer. Now that would be frightening!
Forerunner Soldiers
This was a nice edition to the sandbox and I don’t currently have any real suggestions to it other than utilizing its feature to use just about any vehicle more often. I’d even like to see them hijacking vehicles at times.
Crawlers
This is a neat enemy to fight against but my gripe about them in Halo 5 is that I never remember seeing them wall-climb! That is one of the things that really set them apart and it bugs me that I haven’t seen any of that from the Crawlers this time around!
Knights
These were a an incredibly annoying enemy to fight in Halo 4 as the felt like all-around better versions of the Elites but things have completely changed now for them in Halo 5 and they have remained intimidating yet not naggingly annoying as they were before. My hat is off to 343 on this one but with that said, I would like to see a scout class of Knight that is similar to the knights of Halo 4.
Watchers
In Halo 4 they were annoying and incredibly important to their team but in Halo 5 they seem to be toned down a fair bit. They still help their team but the difference they make seems significantly less. Granted, their still one of the first enemies you want to take out but if your targeting them then its more than likely you’ll get the job done and if they are attacking you they’ll only provide cover fire levels of damage. I think balancing for the Watchers still needs to be considered. Or… Maybe not, if Sentinels are brought back as an enemy for the offensive side of air support.
Sentinels
They were seen briefly in Halo 4 and their new changes looked amazing. I’d like to see them brought back as the offensive air enemy to compliment the Watchers more defensive style.
I’d like to see them have shields much like they did in Halo 3 but overall take a little bit longer to destroy then they did in that game.
Humans
The UNSC and various other human forces have always been your ally and as such their hasn’t been much need to expand upon the different kinds of troops you come across. But what if that changed one day? In Halo 5 I half expected you to fight against some humans as Chief was being hunted but that whole story arc itself was very mis-advertised much to peoples disappointment. I very much want this game to stick to shooting aliens and such but it would be neat if we had to fight some innies or the incredibly corrupt ONI, who seems to only be looking out for the ‘interests’ of humanity. Fortunately, since halo 4 we now have spartans alongside marines which is a nice addition.
-
Spartans
If they ever become someone we have to fight (spartans work for ONI after-all) then they could do with some gameplay upgrades that convince us spartans truly are one of the best soldiers out there. As they are currently, their just marines with a spartan suit shouting, “LEROY JENKINS!”. -
Heli Drones
Know how every other faction has gotten their own air support units? Well I think its about time the UNSC got one of their own in the form of a mechanical drone of some kind (not to be confused with the disgusting drones aliens from the covenant). -
ODST
Below Spartans, these are some of the best of the best humanity has to offer in the form of a soldier. It would be cool if 343 could find a way not only to bring them back but
also give them a certain edge that marines don’t in order to set them apart. -
Fighting Innies/ONI
I know the Halo universe is constantly plagued by war with the Covenant or Cortana’s tyranical rule but if somwhere between all the madness we could fight other humans (like the spartans were originally made to do) I think that would add a nice new angle to the campaign. Besides, Innies are always causing trouble.
What are your thoughts?
