Halo 5 doesn't need bots.

This topic is simply to discuss the idea of bots in Halo 5. Now we all know that Halo 5’s Warzone pits two player controlled teams against AI controlled players(bots) as well as each other. So my question is, are you into the idea of bots, or are you against it? I’d have to say I’m completely against it.

Back in the days before online gaming, bots were fine. They gave us the chance to enjoy multiplayer, or brush up on our skills, when our friends weren’t around. But why do we need them now? What do they actually add to the game at this point?

One of my biggest turns offs with Titanfall, and one of the main reason I quit playing after a month, were the bots. It annoyed the crap out of me to kill what I thought was an actual player just to find out it was a bot. Plus, they were extremely easy to kill, so there was even less fun in doing so. When I play an online multiplayer game I want to know I’m playing against an actual person, with skill, that can adapt and react in different ways according to how I or my team may be playing. AI controlled characters, or bots, don’t progress. They’re programmed to play a certain way and thus the challenge stays the same.

I won’t lie, I haven’t watched a lot of Warzone footage, but what I have seen has shown more interaction with bots than other players. It looks boring and I could see myself getting burnt out on it really fast. Maybe I’ll be wrong about it once I get my hands on it, but I don’t know. Wouldn’t it have been cooler though, instead of having player(red) vs player(blue) vs AI to have three player ontrolled teams of eight with one teaming be Spartans, Promethians, and Elites? Warzone could’ve remained what it is without bots and while also giving players more character options.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Do you or do you not like the idea of bots?

…People were asking for bots?

I didn’t say people asked for them, but they’re present in Warzone.

Ah, just as AI. Not gonna lie, I skimmed the OP. Figured you were referring to traditional bots like in Gears. THOSE dont belong in Halo.
But AI added to a single mode to get players to try to simultaneously focus on grabbing baddies and players? That’s a cool idea.

And titanfall, while being awesome, isnt a great comparison. The bots in those were meant to be free kills and assists. In H5, they actually act as a third opposing force.

Right, because you’re so gonna mistaken a Crawler or Knight for an enemy player.

I guess they’re not the traditional type of bots, but I’d still rather have the focus be on actual players. I just don’t find any fun in playing against AI outside of campaigns.

A PvPvE game mode was often a community dream back in the day, yes. After Invasion came out for Reach people wanted to take it further.

No, people won’t make that mistake, but that wasn’t my main point.

Anyway, Halo 5 doesn’t “need” anything. Fun is subjective and there is enough enthusiasm for Warzone to warrant it’s existence. Don’t play it if you don’t like it; play Arena, or the bot-free version of Warzone that hearkens back to Invasion. There’s enough here to satisfy you.

I wasn’t aware that there was a PvP version of Warzone. I guess I need to read more, but isn’t that just a bigger version of BTB?

I both like and dislike bots.

I like them because despite trying, I just have to face it that I’m fairly average at multiplayer games. With a game like Titanfall, I may only get 2 or 3 pilot kills, but if I can hunt me some bots I feel like I’ve contributed to my teams score a bit more. There were also a lot of challenges that were either directly linked to bots or were just for kills in general. Without bots, any sort of weapons progression would have been pretty slow for me.

I dislike bots because some players just farm them and don’t worry about real players, probably for similar reasons to why I find them handy.

From what I’ve read, they are only in one game mode in Halo 5 so I’d have to say that I’m happy for the option to play this mode.

Who cares? Arena is still a thing.

I care because, so far, Warzone is the only new game mode we’ve seen.

No, not that, read my response I thought he was referring to player bots, like in Gears. I know a lot of people asking for a mix of firefight and MP since those days. But not the player bots since they literally take away the meaning of competitive PvP

What about Breakout?

Yeah, I guess I forgot about Breakout.

I like AI and bots. Players act so selfish, irritating, and vulgar, that I get tired of them very quickly. Bots allow me to play against behaviourally neutral opponants. For example, teabagging is just gross and insulting. I don’t get angry from being defeated, but it is very angering when some idiot has to insult you for it.

It is also irritating when players can’t work together.

Bots also allow for a more customized challange, and without other players, I can play in my own style instead of needing to rush in just to support other players without patience.

Bots were very fun in Perfect Dark. Perfect Dark was also an offline game, and the bots were helpful when you didn’t have people to play with

And Strongholds?

Yeah I also have similar concerns about the AI opponents in Warzone.

I just worry that they’re going to be boring to fight. In wWrzone, with the 1000 points-to-win system, and the bots being generally pretty easy-to-kill bullet sponges from what I’ve seen, they’ll just be this kind of map resource to harvest (like jungle camps in league of legends), not really fun to fight, you just kill them over and over.

The marines in the base do a LOT of damage, but they move so statically and don’t react, I just think if they wanted to add AI to the warzone experience there are a lot of better ways to go about it rather than having them just sit there or fly about on a leash and wait to be harvested for points.

Why not have turrets that the marines man on the bases after you capture them, some Warthog req packs that came with marines manning the gun would be cool, what about a REQ card that let you spawn with a mongoose with a Rocket equipped marine on the back. Why can’t the AI help you assault bases, should Spartans be able to control a small squad of AI marines during hte match (they went to all this effort developing and showing off a squad command system for campaign). A REQ purchasable ODST assault would be pretty cool? When the promethians and covenant enter the battle, I think they should do something, they should have an objective of their own, rather than just being dropped in or appearing. Whether that’s assaulting a base or trying to capture something on the map. Having them sit in one random place and guard some barren rocks just seems SO LAME compared to the possibilites.

I understand that it’s a casual mode and to make the AI too hard would put people off, but even casual players will eventually want a challenge… Or at least something more intersting to happen.
