Let’s be honest, ODST had a FAR better firefight than Reach, and Spartan Ops was boring and repetitive.
(I feel that even if they allowed us to actually see our Spartans like in the reach campaign it would have been a bit better)
So like many others have stated, allow certain game modes to allow different/multiple races.
Firefight & SWAT: Our own customizable ODST. What sense does it make for a Spartan to be absolutely killed in one headshot when you know they have shields. It would have been more believable in Reach if our Spartan III’s had SPI armor.
Elites & Spartans: Basically everything else. (Although I’ve heard good ideas for ODST invasion)
Of course whatever “Race” you want in custom games
We keep things simple. Like you have a Spartan or an Elite. Not bad, eh?
My reasoning being… The majority of people won’t understand why ODSTs are being used in some gametypes and not others. I know you know all about Ghosts of Onyx and the Spartan III SPI armor and all, and I’m not making fun of that at all. I know some of the same stuff. I’ve actually almost finished Ghosts of Onyx myself. But you have more Halo knowledge than the majority of the people out there because a lot of them don’t read the books or even know the books exist. While from the standpoint of people like you and me who know the background, in between stories and what have you, the scheme you laid out makes complete sense to us, but the majority of the people who play Halo, probably didn’t even know that other Spartan IIs still exist and whatnot. So that would only confuse a lot of people.

This has nothing to do with the extended universe for me. I want playable ODSTs so that Sprint can stay for SWAT and Snipers but nothing else. That’s how I would explain it. ODSTs have a sprint button. Spartans don’t.

If a developer implements or cuts a mechanic from a game, it has zero to do with what the player model is. Sprint breaks Halo regardless of what players look like.

SWAT and Snipers are nothing like traditional Halo so saying “Sprint breaks Halo” holds little weight here. Killtimes are instant. I believe a version of Sprint belongs in SWAT and Snipers. I would teach players that they have different abilities in those two playlists by causing them to appear as a ODST rather than a Spartan.

Being able to quickly traverse a map isn’t as big of a deal when a single shot could end you at any moment. Even so, ODSTs’ base movement speed could be a bit slower than Spartans to compensate for their ability to sprint.

If ODST’s move slower, whats the point of sprint?
Just make them walk faster than Spartans or increase FoV.

I see your point and for any other Halo gametype I would agree but I think the trade off between the ability to immediately attack and the ability to move faster presents an interesting dynamic in instakill gametypes like SWAT and Snipers.
Where a shielded Spartan should be firing while moving from cover to cover, a vulnerable ODST would rather get to cover faster without simultaneously returning fire.
Spartans vs Elites in all game modes. Simple. Not that I disagree with you though, but I prefer the classic Human-Covenant war design. I mean, it’s Halo.

There’s a lot more to the human-covenant war than Spartans Vs Elites you know…
Marines, Army, Navy, Air force I think… all in this War. People LOVE the Odst’ s, why not give them some recognition to please all of the fans?
(I agree with elites being playable regardless of game type or team.)

Because i want to play as a sangheili for the looks, not the gameplay traits, and poorly fitted?

I am pretty sure most people don’t know that there are different types of spartans or even that there was more spartans than master chief.

An Elite player model will never fit perfectly over a Spartan’s hitbox. Hence, “poorly fitted”.
I just want them to return in Firefight… is it such a bad ask? Techinically it is its own area of the menu…
Campaign - Main Characters: John-117, Thel 'Vadam… Jameson Locke?
Multiplayer - Customized Spartan or Sangheili…
Firefight - Customized ODST…
The ODST should be comparatively different from the Spartans and Sangheili gameplay… in the WARGAMES… and perhaps OPS (If it returns)?
The idea of having differentiation between the hitboxes is due to the ODST being canonically weaker… but to also give gameplay a less repetitive feeling and make this section a unique and viable experience.
