Halo 5 Desert Trailer

Is it just me or does the Halo 5 Desert Trailer look a lot like Installation 00 from halo 3?

This has been a theory among many fans since the E3 2013 trailer.

I think it probably is the Ark. If not that, then somewhere on Sanghelios.

It would be really cool if it was the deserts of Installation 00 because it would allow for Mendicant Bias and an imprint of the Iso-Didact (like the one of the Librarian on Requiem) to appear in the game.

The environment doesn’t match Sangheilos at all and your latter statement is why we think it is the ark.

Sangheilos doesn’t have deserts? I don’t think there’s anything suggesting that it isn’t Sangheilos.
If it was Sangheilos, that could explain why Locke is seeking favours from the Arbiter and the Swords of Sangheilos.

Most planets have deserts it doesn’t mean they’ll all look highly similar. I truly don’t feel like writing paragraphs on this but dozens of in-depth descriptions we have of Sanghelios do not match with that trailer. Primarily the lack of 3 suns and rust stained hue.

Not every single location of Sanghelios has to look uniform. It could have been a really specific location or a time of day.
Areas of Earth can look radically different from each other depending on what continent you’re on.

It also could have been a Sangheili colony world, or at least a world in Sangheili space.

Very true.

Why would halo 5 take place on the ark? The ark was destroyed in halo 3, if not, it was heavily damaged

K, we can wait another few months and find out then.

The Ark wasn’t destroyed, only damaged.

As for your first question, the answer is Mendicant Bias. Mendicant Bias was responsible for Chief being sent to Requiem, and contacted him many times throughout Halo 3 through the terminals. And since Mendicant was buried within the Ark by the remaining Forerunners, it wouldn’t be beyond Chief to want to go there to get some answers from the individual that was inadvertently responsible for the release of the Didact and the deaths of Cortana and over 7 million people.

This quote from IRIS by Mendicant sums it up quite well,

Your answers lie at the Ark. Find me there, in the dark; for that is where I abide.

There aren’t giant Forerunner Seekersphinxes on Sanghelios. Luminaries would have found it long ago.

The Ark is much more relevant to the way the story is going and how Chief’s personal story direction is heading.

It appears that we may see Sanghelios in Halo 5 too, but I don’t believe the teaser was there.

Sanghelios is inhabited by eight billion members of a tier-2 race. If Chief was on (or anywhere near) Sanghelios, no one would be needing to send a team of highly elite Spartan IV’s aided by a task-force led by the Arbiter in order to find him.

everything with halo at the moment is looking the same

Ill just leave this here.

Now for the theory let me explain why we would need to return to the lesser ark using quotes from the halo novels and the games themselves.

In Contact Harvest after a shard of Mendicant Bias is awoken on the forerunner Dreadnaught on High Charity and reveals that the covenant have been misinterpreting forerunner artifacts and that their whole basis of the Great Journey is false. Wishing to atone Bias tries to take the Dreadnaught bring it to humanity and bring them to the ark. Then in Halo 3 Cortana mentions a way to stop the flood without firing the remaining Halo rings. In the halo evolutions story Human Weakness Cortana implies the ark is her solution. “She needed backup. She triggered one of the copies to create a message to HighCom, a few urgent words about the flood heading for earth, the portal the Gavemind didn’t know about, and that the way to defeat the flood without firing a halo ring lay beyond it the ark.”

Then in the third terminal in Halo 3 343 Guilty Spark is having a conversation with an unknown AI on the ark. Which to me is the most telling information connecting the Lesser Ark and the Absolute Record.

So it looks like the ark has other functions then just making halo’s. Guilty Spark seems to at last know something of what the unknown AI construct is saying mentioning an archive and the final plan of the forerunners. Now why this terminal speaks so many volumes at least to me is the construct mentioning he is all the forerunners once held dear Alexandria before the fire. Alexandria as the largest library in Egypt the largest library In the world. Which held thousands of scrolls from all around the known world. I cant help but think of the Absolute Record being a forerunner version of Alexandria.

Last but most certainly not least the Mantle of responsibility which was brought up many times in Halo 4 by both the Ur Didact and the Librarian and it seems the ark plays a part in humanity inheriting the mantle. In the recent novel Halo Silentium the Librarian is constructing the portal on earth. " I can only hope they will survive and upon returning, that they find this portal and use it to travel to the ark in order that they might discover their rightful place in the galaxy and the great responsibility they have finally inherited."

I leave you with the Silentium epilogue the trial of Mendicant Bias.

"You are brought here to be sentenced. You have not been immediately destroyed because you may yet be needed. Your intimate knowledge of the Flood makes you valuable should they return, but we can never trust you, never again allow you any latitude. You will be entombed here. Your processes locked, frozen into a single thought for all eternity: absolution. Should you be needed you will be reawakened, should there be no need you will be buried here until the end of living time.

" THEN I WILL SERVE, AS A MONUMENT TO ALL YOUR SINS THAT IS WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

Bornstellar shook his head, " I only wish for the Mantle to be upheld"

" I AM PENITENT, I KNOW THAT WHAT I HAVE DONE CANNOT BE FORGIVEN. I WILL ACCEPT MY STASIS WITH GRACE, AND AWAIT A TIME WHERE I MIGHT REDEEM MYSELF."

“Aya so shall it be,” said Bornstellar.

He reached out to a pylon, spread his hand across the controls as they appeared and closed his fist. The constructors finished their webs and sealed themselves into the tomb’s fabric. Mendicant Bias’s coffin was locked in place. The entire structure dropped slowly below the ground into the void and foundation metal, its blue lines pulsing more and more slowly.

“ONE THOUGHT FOR ALL ETERNITY”, said Mendicant Bias. His tone sounded almost wistful. Now the lights were fading, flickering, going dark. “ATONEMENT.”

The tomb turned black as night. The machines final words spread across the false desert and echoed moments later from the false mountains. Bornstellar, Riser, Trial, Chant, and all the rest watched silently as the rest of Mendicant Bias, locked in eternal exile, was covered by sand.

Covered by sand Mendicant Bias was buried underneath the sands of the ark kind of like the desert seen in the Halo Xbox One trailer. Bornstellar who is now the Iso Didact mentions Mendicant may be needed again should the flood return.

Again this is just a theory sorry for the rather long read just wanted to get all my thoughts across.

Maybe some other world like earth that the forerunners hid an artifact at. (earth there was the portal to 00. and harvest had the map to the location of the forerunner fleet.) so it is not crazy to think it is just another ordinary planet with another forerunner relic on it.

The problem with that is that 343i isn’t really known to just drop in an ordinary planet out of nowhere.

343i hints, teases, places roots years in advanced. There is so much going towards the Ark right now.

I’ve seen this talked about before (Mendicant Bias sending Chief to Requiem, Mendicant Bias speaking through the Halo 3 terminals) but I don’t know where to see this information for myself (other than the Halo 3 terminals of course). Where is the information about Mendicant Bias sending Master Chief to Requiem found, and where is that very interesting quote (“Your answers lie at the Ark. Find me there, in the dark; for that is where I abide.”) you mentioned coming from?

Thanks in advance!

Last call, anyone know the answer to my questions above? Thanks again!
