As much as I express how I feel about the way Halo has been going, even in some criticism with no filter, there is one thing Halo 5 has managed to do that previous Halo games failed, and that’s make you actually feel like a Spartan. Spartan Charge, combat sprinting, the thruster packs in the armor, the tech in the Osiris sets like Artemis, all of that is amazing and smooth. Being able to blur through a level while just obliterating enemy threats as you come on them is what lore has portrayed Spartans as in a almost mythical sense. This I love, and I hope, going forward, this immersive feeling will continue to be a part of Halo.
What is one thing if you had to choose that Halo 5 did that previous games did not?
I really like the Artemis team system, it’s really fun to be able to give advice for what weapons your team should pick up, and where they should go. It’s also pretty useful in multiplayer if you want to organize an attack in Warzone, my favourite game mode
The weapon and vehicle variety has always been my favorite part of Halo 5. Using that Hannibal Scorpion with a giant laser cannon instead of a projectile is so fun. A Beam rifle that creates a black hole is amazing. I mean like you don’t really get those feelings of variety in the older Halo’s. But that doesn’t mean there bad. For instance there’s the Scarab Gun glitch and that’s really fun to use.
Looking back after five years I can appreciate Halo 5’s rights even more they outshine the wrongs.
The gameplay: while it is not perfect, it is smooth, fun and in my opinion it is was about time for Halo to do a bold gameplay improvement. Looking at Halo Infinite without thrusters feels like a downgrade to me. - The REQ weapons: they offer variety, they are cool and fun to use. - Balance and consistency: Halo games had always a balancing issue or a broken foundation. Halo 5 is by far the most balanced and consistent in my opinion. All weapons have a reason to exist and a use in the sandbox and work as expected. - Technical quality: Halo 5 is technically the best yet. The visuals and the sound design are fantastic, it has a lot attention to detail and polish. I love the weapon and vehicle designs, the overall art direction, the campaign is a fun ride, although the story does not hold up and the soundtrack is beautiful.
