Halo 5 crashes

When I play Halo 5 the game simply closes and goes to the dashboard with no error code. I have spent many hours trouble shooting on the console end of this issue, reinstalling the game and all of the other stuff xbox support has suggested. I have even sent the console in for service and they are now referring me here.

We have a second xbox console and copy of halo 5, when I log into it the same thing happens. So I must have a problem with my connection to the halo servers, how do I begin to resolve this?

Have you got two seperate copies of Halo 5 Guardians or one?

Are they digital or hard copy?

Where did you purchase it // them from?

Have you homeshared your Halo 5?

Is your internet connection stable?

At what point in the load up of H5 does it kick you?

Lastly if you can, attempt to open H5 and after the issue presents itself record it and pop the link in your reply so I can look at it.

I will assist you as best I can, so answer as many of those for now as accurately as you can.

I have separate copies.
Hard copy.
Gamestop - preowned, Best Buy - new.
I do not understand what homeshared is or how it is done.
Internet connection is stable, just checked with xbox support.
I can always pull up the home screen and load into lobby. I can play some pvp, but very little to none of the campaign.
I tried that last night, the problem is once the game closes, the game dvr does not give you the option to record. Twitch also stops broadcasting.

Firstly thanks for the feedback! I can appreciate this is a pain. It sounds like a weird problem you’re having, I’ve heard of people losing connection or dropping out of matchmaking due to the Fireteam change bug, but never a Campaign related issue. Are there any particular missions that cause this issue?

Also I’d like to take a stab in the dark with a possible solution, check your Xbox settings. Make sure all of your settings for your Xbox your monitor // television are all on synch and compatible with each other. Since it’s crashing on the Campaign as well there could be an issue with your settings. Then after that I’d like you to make sure that the account your using is 100% only accessible to you on your Xbox, just to make sure someone else isn’t logging in as you while you’re online.

Does this issue happen with any other game? Or is it isolated just to Halo 5?

I assume you try your account on the other Xbox One but still receive this same issue? For Campaign there’s a solution but I’m afraid it is to restart your current or any saved missions again. If it’s generally your Campaign that does this then that should solve this issue for you, for Matchmaking, Warzone or Arena I suggest compiling an incident report and sending it here. I’m sorry to leave you tonight on this note but it’s 2:30am here in Aus. I’ll check in again in the morning to see if you’ve made any progress.

Hang in there mate!

Well I appreciate your help. It is a pain, but mostly because of how many hours it has consumed. I am on the Osiris mission and have not been able to get past it. All settings look like they are supposed to. No one has my log in info. See that is the thing, it only happens with Halo 5. No other game crashes.

There was a big issue with this with an update back in 2015, and it plagued a lot of Halo players. Try to restart the mission and go from there and I hope it works for you. Try changing the difficulty setting add a skull, otherwise before I head to bed send my an invite on the Xbox and I’ll join you in Campaign we can chat over Comms and see if we can resolve this issue.

A big thanks to Karma for helping me narrow down the problem, he is an asset to this community. As he mentioned, my game is not updating properly and is experiencing the bug issue with the update from 2015. Since I played Halo back then briefly and experienced the bug issue and only recently picked the game back up, I still have the issue but unfortunately without a fix. So to be continued for now, but at least I know where the issue lies thanks to Karma.

Thanks mate, I’ve posted a quick overview of the issue in the server issue thread with the link back to your original post. Thanks for what you said, I’m always happy to help! Let me know how it goes!
