Halo 5 Community Suggestion Thread

Welcome to the Halo 5 community suggestion thread!

You can now join in on dedicated discussions here, for ease of use this makes communicating together very easy.

This thread is designed to be an outlet for the communities ideas and suggestions for Halo 5 and anything else, all in one place and easy on the eyes.

Additionally to listing suggestions, I am now going to be hosting directed discussions on a weekly basis, so if there is something you wish to discuss in an in-depth manner, shout out here and it will likely be discussed in the following week.

I am currently asking for volunteers to work with me on an in-depth project covering everything Halo 5. But first we must discuss all the subjects that need to be covered, and then assign them to the people what want to do the work.
Please note, I’m envisioning this to be a high-quality project, requiring everyone to be as concise as possible while still providing a lot of detail and important points without making it too large to read.
This will be an on-going project, and if you are interested, please discuss here in this thread; there is much to discuss before we start.
The end result will be me organizing all our collaborative work together in a proper directory that’s in order, linking to each individuals work. Emphasis is on clean and simple, making it easy to read, find and process. If we want anyone from 343i to read this, they have to be able to read our work without losing either interest or going cross-eyed.

Anyone interested in participating please PM me.

This weeks Discussion: Everything related to Matchmaking
Lets bring our heads together and discuss what we would like to see for gametypes, playlists, types of ranks and anything else!

Please discuss anything you can think of!

And below are my personal suggestions. Feel free to poke holes/comment on them.

> Make unlocked/purchased armour do more than look good; like maybe have them make certain weapons look different such as the energy sword.
>
> - Have a special chest piece or other armour make the energy sword glow red like in the Halo Evolutions: Head Hunters. It would not effect the way the weapon behaves besides the red colour glow.
>
> - in addition to the above point, there could be different weapon effects such as making a rubber ducky sound when you swing a Gravity Hammer - But maybe leave it available to block those effects in certain gametypes.

> If the Pelican is drivable again in Halo 5, please make the passengers more useful. In Halo 4 no one had a good line of sight to do anything, even in the above cannon you couldn’t really hit anything, which normally lead to a boring ride while the driving makes sure no one dies in Legendary coop play.

> I Personally would love to see a new epic vehicle ending, or mission rather. I liked the trench battle in space but I think I would like to see a massive conflict with the Chief in something similar to the Halo Legends: Prototype. I could really see some insane epic battles involving something like that with the Chief!

> I would like to see the return of the “Perfection!” announcement along with the return of the splatter spree/vehicleular manslaughter. I don’t know if they’re actually out but I have gotten many +5 splatters and snipes without getting the spree medal or announcement.

> If next gen Xbox can support 32 vs 32 I would love to see something like a battleground playlist, supporting pure slayer game types along with a multi-tiered objective.
>
> - Vehicle traits could be altered to make them more durable but still fairly easy to manage.
>
> - Could support bigger vehicles such as Pelicans and Scarabs (scarabs could be obtainable through a slayer/objective variant of something like extraction and the one to cap the extraction point gets to drive the scarab).

> In place of Spartan Ops, or maybe just have this along side S-Ops if you plan on keeping this, but I would love to have a form of survival horror flood mode.
>
> Similar to Left 4 Dead and Dead Space, it would likely be fairly easy to repurpose a few campaign mission sections, add some spooky atmosphere, extremely creepy noises, and have extremely crazy flood creatures, you could have some epic boss battles with big flood forms.
>
> This in a way could recapture Halo 3 ODST’s firefight fun but have a playlist and game mode with epic replayability.
>
>
> I think this would be one of the biggest draws between the offline campaign people and the online players for matchmaking, and this would almost a game unto itself that would draw in all the survivalists from Dead Space, L4D and Resident Evil.
>
> Special thanks goes to “that Spartan IV” for posting an idea on this on page 9.

> I just thought of one of the best ways we could have a social rankings similar to Halo 3 and Reach and have some of the benefits from Halo 4.
>
> Have maybe 4 tiers of social ranks; Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.
>
> Each takes a fair while to complete, say each tier takes about 1.5 times longer than it took to CSR 130. And with each tier, you get specific emblems and armour variants.
>
> But the biggest change is you get specific ranks depending on which tier you are in, military ranks similar to Halo 3.
>
> Once you complete all 4 tiers, you should enter a type of final tier which takes a hell of a lot of time and points to rank up and the ranks should be badass sounding like “Supreme Commander”, you know, just awesome sounding ranks, like for me in Halo 3, I kept my rank low enough to stay a Brigadier General just because I loved that name so much. We need that stuff back in Halo.

Special thanks goes to i Elite BoB. Check his thread out!

General Halo Games Suggestion Section

In this section I want to promote talk and suggestions for future Halo titles such as ODST & Halo Wars but not limit anyone to just those in particular! Microsoft recently expressed wanting to release a Halo title per year, which leaves up openings for many Halo titles, so…

If you see yourself fantasizing about an Halo RPG, Adventure or anything at all, please come here and lets talk! I will list all the suggestions later on down below if there is room.

I will start us off with one of my biggest desires so far:

A Halo RPG similar to Mass Effect. There is a great deal of which the direction can go and what we could do. It could entirely be a non-cannon timeline of the start of the UNSC-Covenant war and conclude based on how your missions went/chosen.

Like for instances it could a linear progression which can branch out into different directions based on what mission paths you take/how you succeed/fail.

In addition to that it could have a timeline progression similar to Civilization, but different, like allowing you to select multiple missions prior to progressing the main quest/mission line, but keep it to a point where you can’t select too much which would hurt the replayability of it. But leave for some really awesome routes to take in the war and even have some hidden secret stuff which you must do something to unlock.

A game such as this would also allow for ship to ship combat. It would be rather interesting if we could have maybe a FPS-esque version of that, which could also support a pause-gameplay feature and allow you to kind of micro-manage your fleet; especially if Kinect is standard equipment in the next gen.

With the recent details on the new Kinect capabilities it would be able to read each individual finger which would allow for highly precise controllerless controls… We may be closer to Minority Report than I previously thought :o!

That is all I can think/type at this moment, please feel free to comment on this and please think of what YOU would like to see come and suggest it here

Communities General Suggestions

> Improve Transmedia Storytelling
>
> Perhaps one of the biggest problems with Halo 4, as admitted by Josh Holmes at GDC, was the negative impact of trying to tie together the main Halo 4 story with that of the novels and Forward Unto Dawn miniseries. Leading up to the game it had been said that nobody would be required to read or watch any extra material before going into Halo 4. In practice, however, it didn’t work out as well as some may have hoped.
>
> Questions like, “Why is the Covenant back?”, “Why did Chief’s armor change?”, “Who is the Didact and why does he hate humans?” continue to pop up across multiple websites. As the Halo nerd amongst my friends, I was there to help guide them through the ins-and-outs of the story for them, but I shouldn’t have to do that.
>
> When using something from the expanded universe in the main universe, a healthy dose of exposition doesn’t hurt. The Halo games were never strong in their stories before and a lack of understanding about the finer points of the lore are to blame. At the time it was okay, Halo hadn’t really set a precedent for storytelling. If you wanted to go deeper, you could read the books. Yet 343i made the commitment to bridge the two and create a deeper, more fleshed out narrative in the games. Yet aside from the Chief and Cortana, Halo 4 didn’t deliver that.
>
> While undoubtedly Halo 4’s core story is about those two, the story as a whole weakens when players are given new, vague characters and events they did not know about and must decipher with little help from the game to guide them. Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw of Zero Punctuation in his Halo 4 review, here at this point, likely sums up the feelings most people had going into the story from the perspective of the average gamer.
>
> Simply put, people shouldn’t have to go on an Easter egg hunt outside of the game just so they can understand the game…especially if one egg doesn’t come out until 5 months after the game (cough Silentum cough).

Sorry, didn’t see any things like this out.

-Edit-

Wouldn’t a dead month old thread where the OP hasn’t even touched in over 30 days be well within the gray area of someone else making a dedicated thread with the intentions of maintaining it for a very prolonged period of time be allowable?

My suggestions.
Elites in Multiplayer

and a improved forged. wich not only combinds the forge of halo 4 and the 3 and reach.

Features list

-Attatch and duplicate:

with this feature you can take a few objects them into a group and then copy the Group to the other side and change its colors creating a symmetrical map with ease. and also a symmetrical base. the attach feature should also allow you to move a base in any area without having to rebuild it.

-Weather feature:
Snow, Rain, Godrays, Sunny skies, you know.

-Object Size Variations:
Examples: Small Light, Medium Light, Big Light,

-Texture Skins:
Covie, UNSC, Forunner, Desert, Jungle, ect.

Daylight Filters.
Night, sunset, Day.

anyone else knwo what they would like to see in forge?.

oh and a bigger budget to do all thse things.

and 343, if you can’t add all of these than pick the one, or ones that you can fit into the game. and we can wait until the next game

Thank you mods for doing this for me, I will be updating this later today hopefully. I will also be trying to bring in different fan communities into here as well and I actively encourage everyone bring in new people to Waypoint and also here to talk about Halo 5 and the other games and maybe potential games in the franchise.

Once again! Thank you all and I look forward to having you come and visit now and then

For suggestions:Space combat multiplayer
After playing Long Night of Solace and Battlefront 2 it needs to be in a Halo game at least.
Ship controls: it will be the same as sabre’s in LNoS since it acts the same way as the Battlefront 2 spaceships.

Classes of ships: broadsword(fighter against fighter ship), sabre(main assault ship), longsword(bomber), and pelican(a gunship to board troops into the enemy’s capital ship).

Gametypes: capture the flag, slayer, assault(which puts both teams’ capital ship against another like in Battlefront 2), a invasion spin off called boarding action(which put a team to fight of boarding enemy gunships from taking off with the data core)

Audio Settings: Give us the ability to adjust the audio settings: Player Voice, Music, Game Voice, Sound Effects (IE weapons, wind, vehicles, ex), UI sounds (IE swishing of menus, pop reminders, ex), Master settings, and Advance/other.
Better/More Video Settings: Something like Valve has on it’s Xbox games, it has a few “Presets” for video settings that make it so you can select a adjustment that can be Movie quality, Monitor quality, Horror quality. I’d love to see some extra settings to.

Saved Film rendering: The ability to render saved films in side the game, and either save them to your file share for download later, or upload to YouTube.
Spartan Ops 2.0: More or longer missions per episode.
Less repeating maps, more maps that take place in more locations. Spartan Ops is a great way to introduce new weapons, new vehicles, and new AIs, it’d be wonderful to see spartan ops mission where you have to fight a new AI, using new weapons and/or vehicles. Have missions that are made up of different teams, and are in different part of the universe.
Armor: I would love to see more armor parts, helmets and so on, new and old, some fan designed. I would also like to see “out fits” of sorts, so you can save your armor for a machinima or for a clan fight/match.
Hate customization like Reach had when it comes to armor. Skins should be it’s own menu like visor color and not limited to only one armor type. Also more armor coloring would be nice.
Theater Mode: Theater in all game modes, not just MP.

Fire Fight: It should return, it was fun. It should be a lot more flexible than it was.

**Group/Clan System:**There should be a group/clan system that’s a part of both Waypoint’s site and apps, as well as in the game it’s self, maybe even on the forums. Let us have clan matches.

Top of the list for me is:

  • Bring back the Hornet AND falcon
  • Dual wielding with appropriate weapons (SMG, Plasma rifle, ect.)
  • Silenced SMG for Loadouts (if loadouts are being pursued)
  • BTW (Big Team War) bigger teams on bigger maps - utilize the potential of all vehicles
  • Bring back all gametypes (even if they are not in playlists but let us use them for Custom games)

Things I would like:

  • (drivable) Civilian Vehicles for forge. OK perhaps they’re quite redundant for multiplayer, but everyone loves making crazy maps in forge.
  • Reference to Halo wars (perhaps flying over a battle watching cobras battle locusts)
  • A more BF3 approach with broadswords and seraphs is multiplayer working similarly to jets
  • Games where one team has a mammoth and the other a scarab (instead of bases), inspired by sand trap.

My original more detailed thread: https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postsm2367397_There-and-back-again--a-Spartans-tale.aspx

EDIT:

  • gauss cannon as a UNSC equivilent to the shade turret. (granted its more powerful, but i’m sure we could work something out)
  • Coloured monitors to show what team you are on in forge. (would also be good for machinima)
-I would like to see 049 Abject Testament in the next halo campaign. He looks important (from the terminal shown above) and could potentially get the story really interesting.
  • I think that halo 5 needs to be community orientated. I’m not specifically talking about halo waypoint but people playing with their friends in parties. From halo 3 to 4, there has been a gradual decline in parties which needs to be reestablished.
    -Dedicated servers.

EDIT II:

  • Fully on board with RPG idea (I think an arbiter RPG would be good)
  • Elite ops perhaps running alongside spartan ops (not necessarily fighting each other)
  • On board with the firefight idea (not replacing spops)(also with an objective like ODST - reach was boring however there is potential)
  • Terrain editor could be implemented but i would prioritize it quite low. (343 could produce some backgrounds that are great like in halo 4)
  • more boss fights
  • Play as arbiter/didact in ‘flashbacks’
  • Return of respawn option as in halo 3
  • Forerunner aircraft which chief rips out AI or CPU or summin to fly
  • Something like the Switchblade glider for the UNSC. No Weapons/passengers.
  • Monitor Laser - for forge

EDIT III

  • Skins for vehicles, don’t have to go overboard with this, just; default, weathered, desert, snow, jungle and team colours will do.
  • More factions, utilize the possibilities!
  • Bespoke tablet, to connect to waypoint (also with smartglass)
  • Visible Ranking system like halo 3 (I can’t believe I’ve not mentioned this already)
  • Agree with the basic training playlist idea to return.
  • Spacecombat: YES

EDIT IV:

  • A forerunner motorbike similar to the motorbike in Terminator Slavation
    -Multiple obejectives/gametypes in a game (infection + Assault) (VIP+RACE)
  • Flashback missions playing as forerunners (Didact?) and ancient-humans through terminals (Side missions not easter eggs.)
  • Accept/Admit defeat option agreed by whole team.

EDIT V:

> Which was more fun?
> I’d have to say actually halo ODST’s firefight. It felt more real and like you actually had to fight for your survival, hence seeing how far you could get. Reach was just, oh lets just spawn kill these enemies and rank up our commendations then go.
> Halo reach firefight was boring.

> Tell me whats the difference between ODST firefight and Reach firefight. I’ll tell you halo reach was unbelieveably flexible and ODST you just chose map, difficulty and skulls.

I know what’s the differences between the two, ODST’s was the first firefight game mode in Halo, you could pick a map, difficulty and skulls, and when you start the game, it lasted forever, the settings was very limited.
Reach’s fire fight had a lot more settings, and was normally short and sweet.

> Which was more fun?

Looking at it from your point of view? ODST’s, some of the community loves ODST’s.
Looking from my point of view, both. I enjoyed both versions, I played both of them, ODST I could test my skills in a fire fight, see how long I can last. Halo Reach’s fire fight I could edit the game so it was shorter, adjust what enemies I was fighting, what weapons I could have, I spent most of my free time, when my friends wasn’t online, playing fire fight, mostly all grunt matches with DMRs and Pistols. It was still a test of skill to survive with out running out of ammo, but it also gave me a time limit to shoot for.

> I’d have to say actually halo ODST’s firefight. It felt more real and like you actually had to fight for your survival, hence seeing how far you could get. Reach was just, oh lets just spawn kill these enemies and rank up our commendations then go.
>
> Halo reach firefight was boring.

Setting wise, Reach’s fire fight was better. Yes there are some settings that shouldn’t be there, but there are some that should stay, or be simplified.
Like Enemies, we should have some enemy groups we can pick from to fight, IE: All Crawlers, all knights, full forerunner force, all grunts, all elites, spec ops force, heavy force, heretic force, and flood forms.

I’m saying give us something like ODST’s Fire Fight, but give us the ability to adjust who long the match is (Need it for match making), what enemies we fight, what skulls, what difficulty, and what weapons/vehicles are already spawned on the map.

Also, I should of been more detailed on what I meant by flexible, but when I was typing that post, I had some other things on my mind at the end there, and ended up leaving out a few ideas/details.

But, by flexible, I mean, give use bigger fire fight maps, something around the size of forge world maybe, give us the ability to find a good place to hold up in, and fight, make it big enough that we can use any vehicles, maybe even give us bigger and better vehicles after so many waves. Hell, give us a small town on a planet that we got to defend. Hell they could leave a match that last for hours with JIP going, and have 6 or more people in it. That’s what I meant. Also, weapons on the maps, not drops, I want to have a few weapon racks with weapons, give people more options of what weapons to use, something both ODST and Reach didn’t. ODST you had the weapon racks, but they had SMGs, Pistols, ARs, and shotguns, there should be more weapons, but not all in one location.

More ideas, that I left out in my last post.
Weapons Training Room: A game mode that’s meant for weapons training, no extra points, just good old fashion shooting at targets improving your skills.

Custom Game Browser: Give us both match making, and a custom game browsers, leave the ranking and what not that goes with match making, with match making, but give those who enjoy custom games have a browser to search for custom game matches.

Damn, you beat me to it :stuck_out_tongue:

Next gen console might be able to support 64 player multiplayer, with that in mind I was envisioning a battleground playlist, 32 vs 32. Could support war zone (straight up slayer) and maybe a multi-tiered objective/slayer game type.

Which could host their own set of vehicle traits. Making for a more realistic gameplay but still epic as all heck.

I will be touching base on this later in my thread but I will mention credit and your thread in it as well.

Campaign:

  • As always, make it longer, better, etc.
  • Add alot of subplots. For instance, a couple levels are dedicated to helping the Arbiter combat the Remnant on Sanghelios so he can aid the UNSC in fighting the Ur-Didact, then a couple levels dealing with Insurrection-led forces (Brutes, Jackals, Grunts with some weapons made by combined human-Forerunner tech), then some levels dealing with the Ur-Didact directly, etc.
  • Add “sub-objectives”, like killing the Zealot in “Tip of the Spear” (except harder and a little more out-of-the-way). Not necessary to completing the level, but they give you rewards for completing them.
  • More space-jet levels

Multiplayer:

  • More armor permutations, including “special” add-ons gained by completing said sub-objectives and other stuff. Make them hard to earn and not just progression based, and make them actually special. For instance, for killing a Sangheili Shipmaster, you unlock a Doarmir-fur ghillie-suit/cloak.
  • Elite in multipllayer and (if the story allows) Warrior-Servants, as seen in the Halo 4 Terminals. These would have their own extensive armor permutations as well (the Didact’s floating collar could be an unlockable, for instance)
  • Also, I have an idea for return of an Invasion-esque gametype, but I’m making my own thread about that.

> For suggestions:Space combat multiplayer
> After playing Long Night of Solace and Battlefront 2 it needs to be in a Halo game at least.

This is usually one of my bigger requests as well; the different features are spot on to what I suggest as well.

Hello 343!

I’m Paolo, I’m Italian, and I’m one of the most visceral fan of the Halo Universe since its beginning in 2001.
I Loved the Bungie saga, I Loved the science fiction behind it, the books, the novels, the comics, and everything around it.
I spent countless hours on any of them, both offline and online, and I was really scared when all of you took the Heritage of something so BIG.

I just used the verb “was” not casually.

I think you did an “UN-FREAKIN’-BELIEVABLE” work with Halo 4, and most of all my whishes regarding the future of the saga was in there, developed good, and shipped!

But not all of them.
So, I’d like to share what an Hardcore and Veteran fan like me want to see in your next (huge) work!

Let’s begin:

Next-Gen ONLY: Halo 5 needs to leave behind the current generation of consoles in order to focus all the resources and optimization on the Next-Box (Xbox 8?) new custom hardware, bringing back and starting from the new big milestone that is Halo 4, locking it straight to native 1080p/30fps+MotionBlur this time (rock-solid) and then pushing further ALL of the technical aspect of the game: both visually AND gameplay wise. Much better Lighting, Much better Physics, Much better Animations, Much better AI, A lot more Enemies on screen, A lot more Vehicles on screen and, most of all, some SERIOUS Environment Destruction/Interaction, like the Battlefield 3 one (at least like a base, if not better), and with more open and sandboxed levels/maps. THAT would push a brand new hardware system a lot, and from the start. And would skyrocket sales and critics acclaim for years like Halo CE did on the first Xbox.

More Campaign levels Variety: Halo 4 has a really strong and memorable Campaign, but from the third chapter there are too many Precursors, internal, environment (and a return to the human ships environment like the FUD too), while it would be Amazing next time to see those environments switched with more brand new ones more like Halo 2 did at that time (Human Spaceship->Earth->Alien Spaceship->New Halo->Jungle->Snow Environment->Etc)…

More Cut-Scenes/Dialogs: don’t be afraid of exploring the main characters more, and more deeply. Let’s have them talk more, interact more, stop a bit more the action in favour of the story, and even the interaction with them.

More Master-Chief moving abilities: make him grab environment objects, make him climb obstacles or cliffs and (why not), even slide in first person, very similar to Crysis 2/3 or Mirror’s Edge! It would be a natural evolution of the classic gameplay and a solid new feature for the Sandbox in general.

Create more Campaign levels/situations with Armor Abilities in mind: there are already a lot of AA, there will be even more for sure with the next games, but this time try to create environments and situation specifically designed to let them be used accordingly and necessarely for going forward, a bit like Half-Life 2 and Portal did very often with their levels. Explore them even more;

Bring back “Competitive Ranked Level Based Playlist” from the beginning, on Day 1, and not with a (very) later patch. A LOT of people just quit Halo 4 Multiplayer because of the absence of those Game Modes, and just went back to other games no matter what (no matter the fact Halo 4 was and it’s still Amazing even in Multiplayer)…

Make better Social Integrations: we need the ability to record and share Photo and Video Content straight to YouTube/Facebook/UStream/iCloud/Skydrive or whatever service can be accessed WITHOUT the need to have an Xbox 360 to see that content, especially good for Video Montages;

DON’T make Halo an MMO or similar: Just keep it like it is: a Master-Chief STORY in Campaign (+ Co-Op) and a Spartan IV “Multiplayer STORY” with Spartan Ops, and a Competitive Multiplayer standalone, with 32 players max, and no “persistent Universe” like other MMO out there. You would kill the brand, and people would just prefer Bungie’s Destiny. Don’t do it!

DON’T ruin it with Kinect 2: you did good with keeping Kinect away from Halo 4, focusing on the main Hardcore audience. Just do it for the next Halo games too if Kinect 2 is not necessary or can only be a distraction for the main audience.

DEDICATED SERVERS: We need them. Every country should have theirs: Instant Matchmaking, no lag, no host power, no hosts switch, smooth co-op, better statistics -> more Success.

Give me back my CORTANA!!!: I just miss her so much already… :_[

Last but not least:

-More variety in Forerunners/Precursors enemies;

-Bring back Campaign Co-Op Matchmaking;

-Bring back shared Cinema Mode with 2+ players watching the clips together.

Thank you!

Bring Back Invasion: I would love to see Invasion return, it was FUN! Even if it comes back as a Fire Fight gametype, or regular game mode gametype. There should be more weapon spawns on the map, IE: like back in the days of Halo CE - Halo 3.
Bring Back Race: Bring back this awesome classic, and don’t limit players to vehicles, give us the ability to use any vehicle on/in the map, as well as our own two feet, that’s what made Halo CE’s Race so fun!

Yes Elites in multiplayer, and a new forge.

I disagree on “sweet”. I could not stand Reach’s FF. It was absolutely boring.

It had lag, AFK’ers and was incredibly redundant.

ODST’s had flair, it felt like a part of a campaign mission somehow.

> I’m saying give us something like ODST’s Fire Fight, but give us the ability to adjust who long the match is (Need it for match making), what enemies we fight, what skulls, what difficulty, and what weapons/vehicles are already spawned on the map.

I would love that, and I’m all for more settings for forgers and even for general use.

All great points! I would also like to suggest making some games that can last a long time but allow for drop-outs, but not punish them, merely give the points that they have earned up to that point. Making it more social-friendly, but if something happens, it’s not all a waste.

Ah, I get you bud, doesn’t sound too bad then

Cheers, I’ve favourited this thread so we can discuss this later on. It’s a concept which I, among many, am very keen on.
