Is the co-op campaign option only able to be played online with linking up with other players? Or is there a way that my son can join me at home without having “live” membership?

Both are required to have live. What i plan on doing once i buy my new xbox and give my current one to my son is a license transger with his account. He will then share gold with me and have access to all of my digital games.
License transfer? Is that a way to get his profile online without paying a 2nd subscription? And I only have a single Xbox one…would we be able to do a split screen?

If one account on your console has live the others have it but Halo 5 doesnt have split screen. You would need another Xbox One.
So if I had a second console in my house…my son and I could play a co-op campaign without paying for a 2nd membership? because the main profile (mine) has a valid live membership?

No split screen on halo 5 though. But what the guy above was saying is if you have two accounts (and two Xbox’s) you can buy gold and games on your account but have your account set up on the others ones Xbox. So he’ll get everything you have except sometimes certain dlc items
Ok. Thank you both for your time and info

If you set your gamertag as the main account on the console your son uses, and then on the console you use just log in with your account (without setting it as the main account), then you may be able to share your Live Gold across two consoles without having your son pay for it.
Can’t he create his son an account under his live account via xbox.com?
OP, I wish Halo 5 was split screen, but that’s been a major complaint since H5 came out. It’s a fun game though. I’ve enjoyed playing H5 with my kiddos.
I have my son’s profile linked to mine under the “family” option…is that what you mean?

This should share gold across the entire Xbox. I shared with my roommate for awhile, he barely played anything, but would play Madden every once in awhile on his own account online.
Also, for people who want to take advantage of the “Home Xbox” feature, listen to this.
My “Home Xbox” is actually my brother’s console. What I do is buy games on my console, and because I was the one who purchased it, I am allowed to play it. But, since my brother’s Xbox is my “Home”, he can also play every game that I’ve bought. It’s a simple way to avoid buying two games when you game in the same household.

I’ve often wondered that myself.
You have to have Xbox live to play with other people
I never really thought of this issue to be honest. Fathers/Mothers that want to play
Halo 5 with their sons/daughters are unable to because Halo 5 doesn’t have split
screen multiplayer and campaign.
Even though this really depends on the type of people you two are, I suggest you
and your son take turns with one controller going through the campaign and
multiplayer. Either that or you save up to get another Xbox One and play together
that way.
Sorry that I couldn’t suggest anything better.
My 2 cents is don’t bother. 343i should be ashamed, Dad and Son need 2 xbox ones, 2 xbox live accounts, 2 TV’s next to one another, and to setup Family account sharing or whatever…absolutely shameful to play a game “designed” as a squad co-op game with all previous Halo games having standard couch split screen.
Oh also, the campaign is dreadful anyway.
No split screen was a terrible decision. I have 2 disappointed children sitting here who bought this so they could play with one another. Will see if I can return it. I didn’t realize a game defining feature of this franchise would’ve removed.

Beats having slip screen in coop campaign, but I wont mind it in multiplayer\warzone though
I am sick over this split screen deal I bought all the gear Xbox one halo5 and surprised my son when he woke up and reached for his360 it was all hooked up then24hours after finally finishing the halo5 update download no multiplayer!!! He lives the game tho. But me and him play everything together. I’m thoroughly disgusted!
Please don’t revive old threads.
Halo 5 not having splitscreen was announced before launch and is not a big surprise. That said, Bonnie Ross has confirmed that all future mainline titles going forward will have split screen.
