Nice one, 343.
Oh no you need Xbox Live Gold to play on your Xbox. Insanity.

lmao ikr. Its not like its been this way since the 360 and even OG Xbox days or anything
Awesome. So no co-op campaign splitscreen and now they won’t even compensate players by letting them play their game with friends without having to pay even more.
A simple mistake, can’t be helped. However, Frankie was frequently commenting on the Neogaf thread about the GI article and didn’t once mention it. He let people carry on praising 343 for the lack of required gold and didn’t correct them. Not cool.
Do not bypass the profanity filter.
Split-screen co-op campaign has already been removed due to hardware limitations, but they previously stated that a Gold subscription would not be necessary to play co-op campaign over XBL. They’ve now stated that this is not the case. Your reply?
“Oh no you need Xbox Live Gold to play on your Xbox. Insanity.”
Considering that TWO consoles and TWO copies of the game and TWO TVs, as well as TWO subscriptions to XBL, has never been required for me to thoroughly enjoy the game before, yeah, I’d say that it’s pretty f*cking insane.
This news is simply crushing. As a fan that’s the best way I can describe it.
I’ve often scoffed at many of the forums here. I’ve found it pathetic how so many of you make the same thread over and over and over, constantly going on about how terrible of a developer 343 industries is and how they’ve “killed” Halo and what not.
I’ve been a fan since 2001. I’m 24 years old and I’ve been playing Halo for roughly half my life now. I was one of those kids that got 15 friends together and lugged 4 original Xboxes together so we could play 8v8 system link on Blood Gulch. I’ve gone to all the midnight releases, I’ve pre ordered all the collectors editions. Hell, check my waypoint profile, before the ODST expansion for the Master Chief Collection launched, I had every achievement for every game in the series. So believe me I’m serious when I tell you I enjoyed Halo 4 and consider it a proper entry in the series.
My point is that I have defended this company for three years now, arguing that they know what they are doing and that they have the the best interest of the core fans in their intentions.
This news though, I just can’t stand with them on this.
If any employee of 343 Industries ever reads this post, please understand that by not allowing either split screen co op OR the ability to play co op online with an Xbox Live silver account, what you have effectively done is hidden the ability to play the Halo 5: Guardians campaign with friends behind a paywall.
I doubt there’s a single fan out there that wouldn’t at least like the opportunity to play the co op campaign in split screen regardless of the effects of a lower or less consistant frame rate.
At the very least, I would love for 343 Industries or a representative to clarify the reasoning behind these decisions, because being able to play co op with friends at no extra necessary cost has been a staple of the series and it pains me deeply to see that go.
