Halo 5 Clan Raid Map Size

Hey guys, so this is one of my first posts on the forums. I’ve been in the Halo community for a while now, starting back in Halo 3. I’m not normally a forger, but, joining my second clan ever recently, I decided to try and give it a go. I think its an awesome map, but when I showed my clan leader he said that he thinks it might be too big for an 8v8. How big should a clan raid base be? I made it on the glacier template and the base starts where the mountain starts with the spawns on the other side of the map. If I knew how to get a picture or video of it on this post I would, does anyone know how to do that? What is fair for the attacking team in raids to start off with? What about the defending team? I’m super new to clans and I want to make this map good.

When it comes to raid maps, the defenders are often inside a “main building” (often very large, heavily defended, and sealed with a gate) with supplementary defense/sentry towers on both sides. The attackers spawn outside visual detection with the bare essentials and perhaps a vehicle or two to help break through. That’s just the basics there. How complex the inside gets is entirely dependent on your Forge skills and patience.

Ok. My map is pretty balanced I think. The attacking team is sheilded from the base, they have 8 warthogs and 10 mongooses as well as a wasp and a rocket launcher. The defending team has a large base with a sniper, hydra, other power weapons but can only use 2 at a time. They have a tank and a wasp also. There are 3 towers along the wall with two interior base towers. I wish I could show the map, but I dont know how.

First off, there is no such thing as too big (or too small) for team size x, except as it affects pace-of-play. There is no law set in stone that says Halo game play must be break-neck paced and therefore played on small maps - for proof you only have to look at all the DAYZ clones in customs. And pace-of-play on a huge map is still not as slow as many people think when you start adding a lot of vehicles into the equation.

Most important of all: you don’t need anyone’s approval for a forge project. Build it, start an open custom on it, and let people play the heck out of it. That’s the only way to get any really useful idea about the serviceability of a map.

I would say that, as concerns raid maps, the issue of balance between teams is far more important than size or pace-of-play. If the raiders are constantly getting slaughtered by the defenders (which mostly seems to be how these maps and game types work) then, in my opinion, you have a problem.

ed. If the map in question is TPG Raid 2.1, then the answer according to recon is, no, the map is not too big for 8v8. It’s a raid map, for pete’s sake. It’s supposed to be big.

Personally I would not give the attacking team that many vehicles because it just clutters the field and spawn and I’d also not give them a rocket AND a Wasp, just one or the other. In terms of map size, I would have to agree with recon on this one. It is all up to the pace you want to keep. If you want the Defenders to be constantly under attack them make the map shorter. If you want the pace to be a lot slower than elongate the map. It really is just up to you as the forger how you want the raid to play out. Personally I like smaller maps because it adds more combat which is more fun to me but it isn’t for everyone. Talk to your clan leader and see what his preferred game play is and then take it from there. Also you to add screenshots you take a screen shot in game then go to your computer and download the xbox app. Once there you go and navigate to the Game DVR and click on the button labeled “On Xbox Live” and your images and videos with show up there after a bit of a wait for them to upload to Xbox Live. Hope this helps.

Think of the attackers as well. No one wants to run a mile just to see a base before they get blasted by power weapons and have to run another mile to get back again

Which is the perpetual issue with raid maps in my opinion because they’re supposed to be about “team work” and all that…but no clan ever joins them, its always just a bunch of randoms looking to break some clan kids hearts…which they do, by never leave the spawn and making the clan people bored to all hell.

That’s why when I use to do clans it was scheduled raids with other clans. Much better imo

I would think so…the single one I was in was pretty intense.

As aformentioned, there is no recommended size for a raid map. There are some examples of larger raid maps, for example: NRI Fort Visari. And smaller maps like Camp Vhekad. The idea is to make sure your opponents have the chance to overwhelm you. Often I’d say you should make your base the way you don’t have to edit it too much to suit other’s RoE.

This.

And if you set the respawn time to 20 seconds then I hope your map gets exploited by noobs and that your clan kicks you out.

5 seconds or less.

Remember that.
