Halo 5 Case study

Hello All,

I don’t typically make topics on forums unless there is something really annoying me about…well something Halo 5 related in this case. This may be a paragraph or two but the difference that a change in TV/Internet has made is, well, hard to believe.

Down to the facts: Was at my parents house in NH for the holidays and had my xbone with me. Plugged in my box to their -Yoink- -Yoink- Westinghouse LED 48" TV. Thing is pretty bad, settings are all messed up. Also in NH my parents have some real low end internet, something along the lines of 10Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. So the 29th hits and I start playing the halo 5 beta (and I consider myself a season Halo player, I’d say ~1.5 k/d across all games, not great but not terribad). To my surprise however, with Halo 5, I DOMINATE. I’m talking 20 kill - 10 assists - and 5 deaths. I just destroy, game after game. I figure, maybe I am just better at this iteration of Halo. Then I head home.

I get home to NY and hook up my xbone to my Samsung 60" 1080p HD3D $1,800 LED TV and my TwC Extreme internet connection (30Mbps download and 5Mbps Upload) to get my Halo 5 on, and what happens? I get DESTROYED, I’m talking 6 kills - 6 assists - and 20 deaths. Just flipping wrecked, so much so that its funny.

Now two very obvious things I have noticed, my Samsung craps its pants every time I do anything thats very fast moving, I notice that in firefights I can’t accurately aim because the screen tear (i think this is what it is) is so bad that I can’t move the reticule smooth enough to keep it on the enemy player. Also, my internet connection even though it is much better I find myself playing against kids who will very obviously lag from spot to spot.

The question I have is: Who is to blame here? Is it part my TV’s fault and 343i for the lack of optimization? is there any sense in me trying to play with TV setting to try and fix this (I have already tried setting all the motion settings to reduce the drag/tear/whatever, and have seen no improvements). Is a better internet connection worse for gaming? Have I magically gotten worse over the week I have been back in NY?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

tl;dr - Crappy tv + crappy internet = kick @$$ at Halo 5 beta - Better tv + good internet = @$$ kicked at Halo 5 beta…why?

Could your predicament be less attributed to tv and internet lag and more to do with the number of games you played?

Your first ten games of the Halo 5 beta are “unranked” and the system will match you up with mostly noobs. After those ten games the ranking system will start matching you with players that are of similar skill and better, where it is common to get owned regularly.

Maybe, I have no doubt there are better players out there than I. My first week I played quite a bit though, and went from Silver I to Gold I. Look at my account I have some 135 games played with a KDA of 4.4 which was a 5.5 when I first arrived back home on the 4th. Plus I have been playing all Strongholds…nothing else, so it has been re-ranking me.

Maybe the game is putting me up against better players now. If that is the case, why would it send me to the other end of the spectrum (so I get my -Yoink- kicked) and not slowly balance me with players of more equal skill?

I know I’m not that good of a player, just curious about the massive change in the game experience between locations and equipment. Has anyone else tried/experienced anything like this?

Bumping to see if anyone else has been through something similar.

Also, does anyone know what the recent updates (last week) that were made, I hear some people saying it was a big improvement and they win 1v1 now, where as in the last week, I consistently lose 1v1 (very contrary to my prior weeks experience).

Playing on a big screen tv is never advised for a competetive multiplayer game. There is a reason why pro players always play on a 21-23 inche monitor.
