So I’ve been playing Halo since 2007 at Halo 3’s release. I later played the first two Halos, and came to fall in love with Halo Reach. Each of those games told an individual story that I understood without the expanded lore. Sure, if I wanted I could learn more, but I didn’t have to. I just now as I’m typing this watched the final credits of Halo 5 and I’m at a loss for words. After that entire campaign, I am nothing but confused. The intro cutscene with Osiris is cool, flashy, but who are they fighting? Why should I care? Who are team Osiris? I don’t know a thing about Locke or Tanaka or Vale. The only reason I was able to appreciate some of the elements of this story is because I read the Cryptym trilogy a few years ago and I picked up some info. Why did this game just push me through 15 missions only to give me a cliffhanger? Halo three told a complete story and left me satisfied in 10 when this gave a cliffhanger and didn’t tell a full story in 15? I still don’t know who the new protagonists 343/Microsoft are pushing are, and I don’t want to pay extra money or spend extra time to learn this outside of the game’s story. Thoughts?
