Halo 5 Campaign - Boss Fights

I think everyone can collectively agree that they like the idea of boss fights in Halo like the Prophet and Tartarus in Halo 2 and the Oracle in Halo 3.

The problem with those boss fights though is they were insanely short and anticlimactic. 343i should add some more multilayered boss fights that are a bit more interesting and involved than just simply punching a prophet in the face a handful of times or shooting the oracle with a laser as he sits almost completely still for you to shoot him.

Just a thought.

In my opinion boss fights at the end of games just isn’t good. I cant pin-point what it is I dislike about them but I just don’t.

It adds variety and makes it more fun than just the whole campaign being exactly the same from start to finish.

It was awesome fighting the scarab for the first time in Halo 2. We need bigger set pieces like that and more complex boss fights that are multilayered like the prophet should’ve been.

I hated bullet-sponge, Japanese-styled boss fights in Halo 2. The scarab fights in 3 were good, though, as you were able to take it down easily if you managed to mount it.

It would be pretty cool a boss fight vs Jul Mdama and Didact…may Locke…

Boss fights that require timing and aim have always been my favorite.

I guess killing Regret in Halo 2 was quite fun.

Halo 3 scarab fights were awesome! Especially on ‘The Covenant’ where you had to take out 2!

Boss fights always work better to be bigger enemies in a shooter. If its a normal sized person it just feels wonky when they are stupid durable. Halo 2 tried to find the midground, but failed. Its why the h3 scarab works.

The h2 scarab was not a boss fight, it was just a set piece that moved a little. It was no more a boss fight than h4’s lich.

I’m not sure why anyone would expect a prophet to put up a good fight on his own where every elite zealot/ultra would not.

I disgaree completely. Boss fights don’t belong in Halo. The boss fights should just be extra large and extra difficult normal battles. One of the things that made Halo great was the large scale fights between allies and enemies.

It’s a matter of personal preference.

I would like to see a cutscene like this
after chief lures the Didact into a room where he can’t use his powers it goes into a cutscene

chief walks Ito the room all you can see is his hand it clenches then releases , cortanas tags show , the didact says something evil but smart ( in the back ground the original mjolnir theme starts) as the didact is reciting words of wisdom as the song starts to lose the monk chant and go into the guitar wine the chief has flashes of cortana, reach , keys , Halsey , Johnson and many more as the songs at the end of the guitar wine and the beat starts chief runs building momentum up as he shoots his ar at the didact depleting his shield, the beat hits as chief lands a punch on the didact denting his mask as the didact punches chiefs chest you see john lose his shields in that punch with a dent where the didact hit him as he slides away remaining on his feet the didact lunges at chief , chief fighting with his emotions and the didact fighting without a sweat in hand to hand blow after blow every time chief gets hit he makes the same sound that he does when he dies in all the halo games the didact grabs chief by the head lifts him in the air and crushes his helmet but the chief slips out and you see his face but not perfectly because him and the didact are fighting so viciously ,

the way way the fight ends , who wins who interrupts who helps who is up to you #343i

go go listen to the song and think of this

I sort of get you, but Halo 2 boss fights kind of fell right on their face for me. If Halo is to every see boss fight encounters again, I would say they would really have to be handled very different mechanically. And to be honest I don’t have solutions on hand for that. I’m open to be convinced of a good idea.

On scarabs: I kind of have a difficult time defining one as a ‘boss’, they just seem like a interesting encounter to say the least, but it doesn’t operate traditionally to one.

There isn’t much to say about Halo boss fights (other than scarabs) because they’re all pretty meh.

I would like to have boss fights in Halo 5 and scarab fights. As long as they’re enjoyable I would gladly play it again even on Laso

I prefer boss fights like the Scarab ones. But a game without boss fights isn’t “exactly the same from start to finish”. It might be if you strip it down to the fact it is a FPS, but there are many different objectives throughout the game. In Halo 4 you used the cartographer, deactivated a crypt, has a nice drive with a ghost, shot a MAC cannon, flew a Pelican, defended countless things, closed a hanger’s doors, flew a Broadsword, and fought the Diadact in a QTE.

In Halo, I find boss fights to be unbelievable. The only true ones are Tartarus and Guilty Spark, and both felt very weird and boring. So I say, leave it to the Cutscene Chief to do all the cool action-y things while I watch.

i think boss fights, as in the traditional boss fight, have no place in halo, or any FPS for that matter.

now hear me out. what i think should replace boss fights, should be introductions of harder then normal enemies (which may become mainstream or common in harder difficulty, or later lvls) so instead of fighting that one guy, once, and the level ends, how about a group of spec op elite get podded in, with hunter support, (sure you may encounter spec op late,r or hunter, but not in this qauntity, and together with good support)

Those are good alternatives. They could go a little too far though. Like one thing I don’t like about all Halos is that increasing the difficulty normally just results in the game spamming more enemies at you with higher health. When I want a game “Harder”, I mean more intelligent enemies, not just mountains of them with 400% shields.

One thing that made the Scarabs so fun was that they weren’t that hard unless you were new. They just needed more strategy and patience.

i didnt think didact had particle shields.i believe books say there is a layer of hardlight and the armor forms on top

There should be a QuickTime event where you have to enter the Konmi code in under 1 second in order to beat halo 5. You must do this 15 times and backwards on random occasions in order to beat the final boss.
