It would be cool if there was a hub level like New Mombasa in Halo 3: ODST. The player would play as Locke, and it would involve them exploring a massive in-game world with plenty of engagements, missions and side-missions to find. The main levels would be clearly marked and already accessible from the in-game menu. However, the hub would find a means for Locke to find his own missions and search for clues behind John-117’s activities. He could find clues and then it would trigger ODST-styled flashbacks to activate the main levels in the game (with settings outside of Sanghelios). It seems really fitting for Locke’s role as a bounty hunter.
As for the hub, it could be set on a war-tone Sanghelios with Jul’s Covenant faction and Prometheans littered across the maps. The player would also have the option to find collectibles and engage in numerous side missions given to the player by UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios forces alike. Unlike Halo 3: ODST’s hub, I’d love to see something that’s truly massive and offers varything environments. I’d love to see everything from deserts, Sangheili towns, fields and a jungle, oceans and rivers, mountains and even UNSC bases. That would make for an awesome experience and feel more quintessential to the experience than ODST’s New Mombasa…
It really depends on how they do it, if they pull it off it will probably be the best campaign yet
Open world because if it’s isn’t then it’s mostly not going to be an impressive game if they don’t because they have already ruined the Halo 5 multiplayer so the campaign would be the only possible redeeming thing left if so if they get that wrong than Halo 5 will be doing just as bad or worse than Halo 4 has been doing.

i will fight the noob who decided it to be open world
I don’t know how open world would work on such a story driven game like Halo. A Farcry’ish open world would surely ruin the campaign immersion. Regardless to say that I love Farcry, but Halo needs to have chapters, we all know Halo and its witty chapter names.
I believe it will still be linear, but the levels will be massive enough to feel open-world.
I’m pretty sure that 343 already squashed those rumors. I think they said that the game will NOT be open world in the RPG sense but the missions may be more “open world” like mission 2 in Halo: CE, where you can choose which objective to complete first. I don’t think that the storyline in Halo would survive very well in a true open world campaign.

Open world doesn’t mean “big empty spaces”. It’s a gameplay style where the player chooses which missions to complete, the order to complete them and the methods used to do it. Halo 5 will not be open world.
I chose Open world because I’d love to see that in a main Halo game. However, I doubt that will happen.

You do realize that most if not all Halo campaigns, take place in a fairly big open environment right?
Open world in Halo is slightly annoying. Although ODST was quite refreshing, it took too much walking. Most Halo campaigns have levels that are very open anyway, so that’s good enough for me.
Open world games are the way to go nowadays, and they’re always the ones that sell the best and are the funnest to play. Unfortunately, with the way Halo’s Campaigns work it just couldn’t be the same journey and experience for a Halo game if it was open world, it’s too much off at a fundamental level. I would be entirely open to a Halo spinoff like ODST that’s open world but with a larger and more diverse experience.
I like Bioshock structure. Bioshock was and is very linear, but it never felt that way to me. It felt like an open world game even though it clearly isn’t. I hope halo can capture that.
Open world obviously.
As if selecting what level you wanna play from the start menu has any advantage over a game where the playable areas are connected within the campaign experience itself.
Delta Halo and Quarantine Zone. I want the entire campaign to be filled with ‘open, but linear’ levels like that.
I don’t like the idea in a linear shooter like Halo. I’d appreciate multiple approaches to accomplish missions, but no RPG elements, please.
