What do you think of the BTB maps in Halo 5? Do you think they play well? And finally, do you want more originally-created maps that are textured and amore visually beautiful like the slayer maps, or do you like the Forge-created maps more?

Original maps have a huge price tag for the developer. Forge maps may not look as good, but they look far better than anything that could have been done in any previous forge, and giving forgers their own playlist is a huge step forward in engaging the community.
That said, forgers still have a way to go before they’ve fully exploited everything this forge can do visually. From the standpoint of gameplay they seem to veer back and forth between maps that are so conservative as to be boring the first time you play them, and maps that are so off-formula that they’re unplayable. And they’re far too reliant on re-makes.
So the maps are largely let-downs, but the idea of community-created maps is still a good one.

Interesting point of view. I do understand they are expensive to make, but I still wish 343i would make the prettier maps. The Meridian style of snow and rock would create a KILLER Vahalla/Ragnarok remake. Also, the Sangheli ruins would provide an excellent template for BTB maps for canyon themed maps. I wish they were at least a couple.

There is nothing there I’d disagree with except to reiterate that I’m tired of re-makes, even when they’re of Ragnarok/Valhalla and even when they’re created by the developer.
But if I had to guess then I’d say that they’re going to continue to put all their map resources into Arena and into Warzone. Those Warzone venues are budget eaters and I’m sure there’s an army of accountants somewhere telling them that they can make six Warzone maps or ten BTB maps but they absolutely cannot have both under any financial circumstances - unless by some miracle Halo 6 sells 13 million copies. Until then I think we’re gonna have to make our peace with community BTB maps.
I still say that there’s a lot of room for improvement there and that if the cartographers get their act together then you could see some maps that ease your pain over the lack of originals. Scavenger comes closer than anything I’ve seen so far. I don’t like the game play all that much, and it suffers to some degree from the ludicrous verticality that seems to be the Halo 5 map must-have feature, and which is not a good thing in my opinion. But visually it comes closer than anything else I’ve seen to showing what forge can do. The opposite extreme is Unearthed. Bad game play, crazy useless unplayable verticality, badly set up with vehicles. Visually unremarkable. The bases are very well done but that is the only redeeming feature I can find for that map. Most of the others are hobbled by having been put together while forge itself was still incomplete, and the refreshes only go so far to redressing that fault. Only time will tell whether this crop of forgers is really up to the task, and I know that the current crop of maps doesn’t give anybody a lot of hope, but I can still see so much unrealized potential. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, but even if H5 BTB maps never get any better then we have to remember the H6 is really not that far away.
I don’t mind the remakes considering I don’t feel like there has been an “instant classic” BTB map from any of the Halo games after 3 anyway. I just wish that they would remake some of the maps that haven’t gotten remake love yet instead of always remaking the same ones.
I’m not gonna get into the pros and cons of all the maps since I don’t think it’s gonna change anything, but I’ll just say that the lag on these forge maps is really annoying and it’s dwindling my enthusiasm for future maps. I think Antifreeze is the worst for lag out of all of them.
